I certainly don't think it was ever planned out this way and I suspect that things got out of control for a while but I don't think the circumstances helped. Cortese skulked off, then Pochettino, then the World Cup turned up and got in the way. Not much could be done until the new manager was sorted but by then Liverpool in the form of Gerrard had already turned players' heads. Hence the grand clear-out and refurbishment.

The fact remains that we let in three goals and were caught in the break. I'm not too bothered about this top-half/bottom-half of the table stuff. Tottenham ended above us because they beat us twice.

I remember being at Old Trafford and trying to work out what the difference was between the teams. It seemed to me that Man U would defend resolutely and then all of a sudden everybody would press forward and overwhelm the opposition (us). I don't know if there was some signal to do it or whether they just sensed the right moment.
