It really depends on a number of things. At the moment a lot of saturated courses, so the chalk based courses like Hockley, Royal Winchester, The Hampshire, Test Valley are pretty dry. The pay and play courses like Paultons, Cams Hall, Southampton Municipal etc are good. Most of the members/proprietary courses are pretty good. It really depends also on timings and the cost of the green fees you want to pay. I don't think there is anywhere around I would avoid except to find out if there were societies/competitions (especially Ladies ) on, adjacent to the time you want to book.

I've played most of the courses in South Hampshire. Was a member at Stoneham but knees were finding it hard going so gave it up. I was also a member at Wellow and play there now. Once the reality of playing Premier teams weekly with no margin of error where results are concerned, I expect quite a few players to fall by the wayside. Given Cortese's ruthless ambition and pursuit of success I would be surprised if many of the present promotion squad feature regularly twelve months from now. One of the big problems these players and the club have is the pay they would have to give up to transfer down a league. I think we may see quite a few going out on loan.
