It's very true that you do need more than a degree these days. I graduated in 2009 with a 1st, but since then i've had to do unpaid work in a school, as well as in Youth Clubs etc, combined with a P/T job, in order to be accepted onto a PGCE for this September.

Any decent apprenticeship (i.e the Esso apprenticeship) requires 5 GCSE's at grades A-C. It's all well and good doing training with any old company when you haven't even finished school, but they'll be stuck between £15,000-£20,000 for years.

Neither. An expert in an academic field will need an Undergraduate, Masters and a PHD, followed by numerous research in said field, with this research being published in many academic, peer reviewed journals, in my opinion. The graduate with the 2:1 is a hell of a lot closer to this then the guy with the passion. Just the way it is.

So we get a generation of children who are only able to recite key dates and "facts", without having any knowledge whatsoever on how to analyse and interpret them? There was me thinking we wanted to get away from creating robots. It also sets them up for a massive fail when going on to study at a higher level.

And that HND was probably dumbed down too...

I'm more interested what "Political Correctness" he has personally witnessed in a school that he feels needs to be eradicated? Where is he getting these ideas from exactly? As I said, it's a sweeping statement because he believes it's what the majority of people want to hear, which is a different discussion completely.

Gove is fantastic at making these massive sweeping statements without having a clue what he's going on about. He is without doubt the worst Tory on the front bench, and that is saying something with Osborne sat there. Has he ever been in a school post 16?
