Yeah and that game. We made a good start and I think we all felt kind of refreshed that our ''Kids'' looked like the real deal. Unfortunately and unsurprisingly they needed a bit of help as we got into the nitty-gritty of the season, but it didn't come.
-
I remember that game, I also saw the Derby game and said after that we'd be no where near relegation, so ''no worries'' Whops.

Wash your mouth out!

He's obviously not going to look as good against players like Derbyshire, Nugent, Miller etc. I think we've been used to him gliding through games with us over the last 18 months, but then again dealing with the likes of Sam parkin, Odejayi isn't as tricky - and he made it look lioke a doddle. I also think the argument about his partner being a fair one as well. He seems to play better when he's got a ''beast'' of a CB next to him, which is what i'm hoping Jos turns into. (he looks quite a unit tbf). Still a bit mugged we missed out on Gorrks for whatever reason, as he's exactly the type of player Fonte thrives alongside.
-
Can't see cov letting him go on loan, unless we offer them a pretty hefty loan fee with an option to buy. He's turned into one of their best players.
-
But again, as people are saying, who would you play there? Harding out, Richardson out, Butterfield out etc...
-
He's gone up a level this season, like so many of our players. He looks sharper, leaner, quicker and more mobile than I can ever remember him. He's everything you want in a championship striker.
-
On yesterdays showing, Morgan is going back to the bench. Hammond is playing like a true captain, and has done now since the turn of the year - really pulling us along. Morgan is a good player, but I expected more from him as he has a job on to get in this team.
-
I do agree with that, but Fonte was always going to be tested by going a level up. Without question he is a total cut above L1, but he struggles to dominate as much at this level, which you'd have expected tbh.
-
Adkins sounded quite worried about Harding when he was asked, as he did his knee in training y/day.
-
He is exactly what Burnley fans said he was. Good going forward in an attacking sense, a terrific delivery and set piece taker - but suspect defensively, often getting caught out of position. Let Nige and co work their magic on him and I'm sure he can be a much more effective defensive full back, but on today's showing he looks more of a left midfielder.
-
Yeah, didn't agree with the booing myself - but that's what most do when an ex-player comes on, for some reason. He did say some silly stuff to the press soon after he left though IIRC, along the lines of ''As soon as we were relegated and I asked my agent to push a move through to forest for me''
-
He did score goals, but I reckon someone like Lambo would have got 20 odd in that team. We were nieve and inexperienced, but we did create a lot of chances and a clinical, consistent finisher was probably the difference from a mid-table finish that season. But due to our ''log jam'' of strikers, we sold them all.

Defensive Line-up today vs Forest - strange or genius?
S-Clarke replied to Tony F's topic in The Saints
Yep, harding only took a knock in training y/day unfortunatley, and Richardson had a tweak so was pulled on thursday. -

Players being played were forced changes. Harding has jarred his knee, Richardson took a kick in the groin (i think) and Butters has had some sort of knock all season so far, same with big Rhadi. I thought today showed our squad depth tbh. Alot of clubs wouldn't have been able to cope with the amount of changes we had to make today, yet we were still competitive against one of the best in the league. -
We will be attacked more in this league, teams will create more chances against us, because it's a higher level. We don't have the likes of Yeovil, Wallsall, Tranmere with their ''potent'' attacks. We're up against players like Miller, Derbyshire, Zigic, Chorpa etc....a total jump in the level, anyone who didn't think we'd conceded a few more goals is expecting a little too much from this team.

It's posts like yours which drag this site down because they're a massive knee-jerk, they're based on no real foundation as you weren't there to see the full picture. I was, and whilst we did look a bit jittery, it was nothing major to worry about. The full backs were a little shaky, but that will be addressed when we get Richardson/Butters back from injury - then we can put Cork back in his best position. And by the way, my point about us just being promoted is valid and is not an excuse. Why people expect us to be beating teams like forest easily, whilst not letting them score is beyond me. If anything today showed the versatility and depth of the squad.
-
No, but that's an excuse. Apparently.
-
To think a year or so ago they were talking about taking their place as one of the best teams on the south coast.
-
I'm not getting my excuses in early. But it looks like you're building up your ammunition ready to go full throttle when we lose.
-
Yep, we're in a right mess. Totally doomed. Everyone out.
-
Yep, that sub took the flow out of their game and allowed us back in it.
-
He'll say he's big boned...but he's definitely been on the pies. He's still got a great touch and cross though.
-
We are conceding a few goals, but anyone who thought we'd concede the same as last season, or less, is off their rocker. We'll loose more games this year too, it's the nature of being in a higher league.
-
How we got £1m for him beggars belief.
