1980: Boxing Day - Spurs away 4-4 Dec 27th Leicester home won 3-1. Not too much rotation. And only one substitute,so no bringing 3 of them off at 65 minutes. Most players involved in both as I recall. Several probably got pissed when they got back from Spurs as well. Then there was 1978: Sat - League Cup final Monday - Arsenal FA Cup at home 1-1 Weds/Thursday Arsenal - replay (lost) Sat - played some other bastards I suspect but can’t look it up at the minute

As did Peter Shilton at The Dell, and Mark Crossley for Sheff Weds once. Wonder if conceding three goals from opponents GKs is a record.
-
Watford trying to compete with us and West Brom for the most ludicrous and out of depth appointment of the season. The Still brothers could well occupy two of the three worst appointments. WBA certainly taking the other place as things stand.
-
Wonder how the current generation of players and coaches would have coped in the old days with three games in four days over Easter. Wenger, Klopp and Pep would shit themselves at that prospect.

Yes, Lambert, an outstanding late developer. Or at the other end of the spectrum of dramatic subs though we have Jonno Quick. By the end of the season we’ll know if this was Larin’s ‘Lambert’ or ‘Jonno Quick’ moment of glory.

Far too sensible a post. But if he comes on and does this a few times we won’t be complaining.

The euphoria might have died down a little by 09:40 on Sunday, but you probably still had your red and white striped glasses on. Agree with much of what you say, but a bit premature as well. Great goal, a CF to attack the ball like that is something we’ve missed for years. And he did use his size to good effect on occasion as well. The one description I’d disagree with is to say he looked ‘mobile’. The main concern for me was that he looked a bit heavy footed and pretty immobile if anything . Hopefully that’s just being rusty and he’ll get up to speed. But credit to the bloke for taking the opportunity and making the impact as he did. Can’t take that away from him, or Tonda for effective use of the subs.

I heard mention of Martin Chivers both pre-match and at half time yesterday, but didn’t hear what exactly it was. Sounded as if his daughter, and grand children were there, expected to see them pitchside perhaps, but not the case. Not criticising that, they probably don’t need or want to be in the public glare. I suppose that passes as a ‘tribute’

Steve Moran within a couple of minutes of coming on as sub v Manchester City (4-1)
-
Vague recollection that his goal was on MOTD as well (v Blackpool ?)
-
Might be an Olympic event soon then.
-
Don’t think he tried that with Dame Edna. Might have had a big surprise had he done so.

Semenyo as I understand it played in one early round of the competition. Guehli played every round for Palace up the Quarter Final stage. My view is that neither should be eligible for Man City at such a late stage of the competition. Not as if they don’t have a major advantage over other clubs in the cup without adding an injection of c£80m new players to the squad. Anyone know if the same cup tied rules apply to the FA Cup ? (Brooks jokes aside that is)

And don’t forget Wenger. All complaining about fixtures piling up and the rigours of the English season. Ridiculous when you consider how fixtures used to be played, especially over the Christmas, new year and Easter periods.

Christ, I’m old enough to remember the ‘coalman’ making deliveries in our village !

A really good find Gloucester, well done. I think I’ve got this on a video in the roof space as late 80’s both BBC and ITV dug into their archives to produce compilation videos of teams.

Found this : may appeal to some.
-
Don't think may would mind if he turns out to be a Stern John Mk II for the rest of the season.
-
And Bazunu. But it still doesn't go above 4.
-
I too am overjoyed at this signing, possibly the most ecstatic I've been over a January striker signing since Carillo. Yes, can't wait to see the Canadian Carillo firing them in against Watford on Saturday.

I'm still haunted by 1980 League Cup tie
-
It would be logical but for the fact a)we don’t have to release AA (unless we have a suitable replacement and are getting a good £ for him, £7m I don’t think we are) b)the incoming player isn’t a steaming pile of turd
-
I’ve not read anything about him having any pace. As for the World Cup being the great motivator, wasn’t the same said about Downs ?
-
Have thought something similar although about the Hull match. If I remember he didn’t appear for the press interview for some time, so wonder if it was not only discussion in the dressing room but with Spors as well over the direction of the club and influence from above

Was AA one of the names highlighted by Alfie House the other week??
