I’ll judge it when we know how we’ve helped Goztepe at the close of the window.

Agree, think they’ve tried to do it too quickly. Old adage don’t run before you can walk. I’m not convinced over spread of teams. Valenciennes is understandable given talented players coming out of France, and some to UK over the years. Goztepe seems somewhere to place aspiring work permit applicants. Very few Turkish players seem to have come here (perhaps we buck that trend if we find the right players). A Dutch club might have been a more useful addition to bring in players from Scandinavia where we’ve had success from in the past. Instead of which we were last linked with a Bulgarian club, and one in Dublin (the latter might not be a bad idea, almost an extension of having a satellite centre that we used to have).

I was encouraged by Sokak looking to taking a more hands on role, and moving out or aside Kraft and Ankersen from Saints. The appointment of Spors by reputation seems positive. The potential for improvement seems there. Happy to see how it goes as SR haven’t been shy to put money in, but how it’s spent has been the issue. But - very early days I know - St Ciervo makes a good point: Add this to the selection of a young, and in my view inexperienced manager, who hasn’t worked in the UK before, and has to be said jury is very much out.There are similarities to some of the earlier decision making so wonder how far we’ve moved away into more positive times. Yet to be convinced. All may be clearer Sept 1st or whenever the transfer window is done.

Different shirt designs 1976/7 shown here: I don’t recall ever seeing us at a match play in the shirt worn by Blyth. Although it was worn at Carrick Rangers, by some of the players from something I read years ago.

Firstly, issue a sad anorak alert. Following the posts with SidneyFudpucker and Kenilworthy ( good name for a rural Solicitors or such like ) I’ve looked into the 1976/7 shirt. I hadn’t realised it or remembered how inconsistent this was. The badge on Rodrigues and Stokes is fully on one of the red stripes, whereas it is across the two stripes for others including Channon and Holmes. This might be due to the size of shirt perhaps. The badge is on the white of Steve Williams & Osgood’s shirt. Williams and Osgood have a different design with central red stripe. Wonder how the Quality Control worked at Admiral in the 1970’s. Doesn’t matter of course as the teams that wore that (after the initial early season slumber in 76/7) were a joy to watch.

How many years did we keep that circle for ? Wasn’t it just 1976/7 the year after we’d won the cup? (Vague memory that it wasn’t now you mention it).

Just checked, and it appears the badge sat over the stripe on the original. Not as I remember it, but it was nearly 50 years ago.

Year after year we see better designs on here from supporters than they come up with. Really have to wonder what sort of twats are employed to design for the manufactures, and about the retards at the club who select them.

Seems a bit of a come down to leave a Champions League club for us at the moment. Even if he’s out of contract (no idea if he his).

Okay thanks for posting that. I don't recall that figure only the £20m upwards figures. Wonder if we have to pay any 'add-ons' to Arsenal instead of the uplift for staying up.

Nothing amazing or exceptional from the standard YouTube watch. But I’m sure he’ll tear it up at Goztepe. Still doesn’t make the signing a bad option, as he could be sold at a profit even if not arriving at St Mary’s as his next destination.

Not sure how accurate their figures are: Ramsdale won’t come cheap, though, with Southampton hoping for £20million in exchange for a player they paid £18m for just under a year ago. Thought we’d paid more than that from reports seen at the time.

I think Ted Bates tried to sign his father in the 1960’s. But Swindon refused to sell.

Sounds promising. Can’t see any reason not to have stripes on the back, other teams have retained them. If not then I’d prefer to discontinue with the stripes, and have red and white halves, or the Keegan era kit.

Article says he’s 23. Not a youngster as they call him. Wonder if it is to see how he does, or to improve Work Permit chances.

Its probably easy to sell the idea of playing at Goztepe to players seeing it as a stepping stone to Saints than bringing them the other way. Romulo is a good example. He’s done well at Goztepe and if given the option of coming to Saints (in the Championship don’t forget) or other options, say Feyenoord, or a Spanish club with prospect of European competition, staying in the SR group doesn’t seem attractive. Despite the tie up within the group, the players aren’t commodities to be moved around, we’d still have to overcome the human factor of players choice, and their bastard agents.

Rohl may be the last man standing. And Leicester might now be his last option. Seems a likely marriage of (in)convenience. Would have liked Rohl at Saints, but he certainly hasn’t managed his options well it seems. Added the Chansiri factor as well and it’s been a bit of a clusterfuck on his part.

I thought QPR or even Stafford Rangers were more his level.
