Where have I written that he isn’t. I’ve merely pointed out that Fat Sam had an horrendous start to his spell at Notts County before becoming an “innovative” manager. You’re the one performing acrobatics, claiming because it’s Notts County it is somehow different. Me, I’m just pointing out managers can make poor starts at clubs and then turn things around. I’m sure there were County fans wanting him out after 3 games as well, but I guess they’re different because it was the 1990’s.
-
That’s exactly what I was doing. He’s running Jones down for his record, yet praising Fat Sam despite him having a worse record a couple of years prior to his innovative spell at Bolton. It doesn’t matter if it’s 1992,2023 or 1897, calling for a managers head after a handful of games is ridiculous.
-
This is the third club Jones has managed. After managerial spells at Preston & Blackpool the innovator Fat Sam rocked up at Notts County , where he went the first 18 games without a win. They eventually got relegated to Div 3 that season.

IF. You wrote we need to “get back” to playing people in their best positions, which presumes that we weren’t at present. Sorry, I misunderstood, I should have realised it was just another vacuous dig at the manager.

Whose not playing in their “best” position?

The Guardian The trio accused The Guardian of “institutional racism, editorial whiteness and ignorance,” adding that the newspaper had attempted to “whitewash” history during the making of the podcast. https://deadline.com/2023/01/the-guardian-podcast-slavery-racism-complaint-1235238808/

Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg
Lord Duckhunter replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
They didn’t “let us down” last night. Newcastle haven’t conceded a goal in the league since the consolation one we got in Nov, have only conceded 11 in the league all season ( I’ve only counted league because that’s their full strength side, like last night), which is 5 less than any other team. They are third in the league. What did you expect, us to roll them over? -
Hang on, I thought we were a long ball side.
-
Are we going to play with 10 then, because none of them can score.
-
Exactly, it’s like saying “our goal was less offside”. Both were rightly ruled out, although with no VAR ours would probably have stood (as I thought the ref blew for theres). Against top sides you need to ride your luck and then to miss chances. It happened with Ralph and it happened last night. If you contrast last night with the last semi final, it was miles away from that pathetic display. The other difference was down to 10 and shot, we hung on to 0-1 meaning the tie is still winnable (however unlikely). Personally, I reckon we’d have let 1 or 2 more in during the last few minutes under the previous manager. After all it happened time and time again.
-
What’s he supposed to say, “we’re shit”. You’d be the first to start moaning if he throw the players under a bus like Redknapp did. You’re the one who is delusional if you think telling interviewers how poor we are will get the best out of the players.
-
I’m with you all the way. He’s made us more aggressive, and nastier to play against. It takes a long time to turn round the soft as shite attitude that has infected the club the past few years, but he’s made a decent start on that score. Being aggressive and nasty doesn’t mean long ball. I honestly don’t know where this long ball pony comes from, we’re far from a long ball side.

Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg
Lord Duckhunter replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
Far far better performance than our last semi final “effort”, when we minced around against Leicester. We’re more aggressive now and move the ball quicker. Some promising signs. The new lad was excellent, Diallo had his best game in a Saints shirt & Mara showed some promise. The other new bloke struggled against Trippier & the physicality, & Lyanco was Lyanco. They’re a really decent side and we got in amongst them properly for spells. Some of our fans are fucking idiots one minute moaning about long balls, the next playing out from the back, and although the keeper is pony, there’s no need to get on his back. Perhaps some near me didn’t realise it was two legs but shouting about hurrying up & get it forward in injury time was ridiculous. Down to 10 we were clearly shot and pushing for an equaliser would only result in one thing, a 2 or 3 defeat. There’s a tiny chance they’ll be too complacent & we’ll pinch a 1-0 up there before winning on pens. -
You.
-
“Lazy supporter attitude” what a load of old pony. He’s getting criticism because he lets goals in he should stop, nothing more nothing less. It’s nothing to do with his age. Every keeper makes mistakes that result in goals but this bloke makes more than most. There’s also absolutely nothing on the other side of the ledger, saves that kept us in games or won us points. If the Villa keeper chucks one is his own net Sat their supporters will look at the Leeds game where he made 2 outstanding saves and Sat whee he made a good one at the end. What do we look at, when has he ever made a save that wasn’t routine?
-
Fucking hell, Brighton have a couple of decent seasons, sign some good players and all of a sudden some of our supporters are in awe of them. Brighton aren’t doing anything we didn’t do a decade ago. We were the “model” club then, and somebody else will be in a couple of years. They’re having to sell their best players and at the moment aren’t missing them, remind you of anyone? They’ll end up selling too many, & making some shite decisions and managerial appointments and in a few short years their supporters will be pointing at another club wailing “why can’t we be like them”. When they’ve got into Europe, a cup final and had 4 top 8 finishes running, perhaps you should lay off the “Reed only talked about it” pony.
-
You’re right. HE had very little chance, a decent keeper however, would have.
-
What a load of old pony.
-
A dozen top flight keepers would have kept that out. “Save of the season”, what a load of old pony. Here’s the big difference between our keeper and every other one in the league. Whilst other keepers make mistakes, let soft ones in, they also save probable goals. Our bloke lets in ones he should save, but also let’s the ones in he shouldn’t. Other keepers sometimes pull off great saves, this bloke never does. I honestly can’t recall ever thinking “he did well to save that”. Perhaps his Grandad can think of one. To me he makes routine saves, and also makes fuck ups, that’s it…. It wouldn’t be so bad if he made routine saves and didn’t fuck up, or makes great saves but fucks up occasionally.
-
What do you want him to say. ‘This lot are shite, I need to get new players in asap”? Basically the Redknapp approach. If he has to work with what he’s got now come Feb, you’d be the first slagging him off for running them down.
-
Didn’t we have the ball in the net within about 2 mins, with KWP getting in down the right once before and then providing the cross for the goal. That suggests to me that we created confusion to the opposition, rather than to our own players. Didn't we make 3 subs at Everton as well, changes that helped us hold onto our lead. Not much “confusion” there.
-
It was also a poor free kick to give away, he didn’t really need to foul the bloke. When you keep conceding from set pieces you really need to stop giving away preventable corners and free kicks
-
You can’t use a semi final as a “trial”.
-
Their keeper would have saved it….
