Last years window signing did well.
-
One benefit of not signing anyone in the window is our plebs dont get to jump around like helmets in front of SMS on national TV. How on earth losing fox, martin and other fringe players is "weakening" our squad is beyond me. The only loss that weakened the squad was Osvaldo and as he was suspended for banjoing a loyal and well liked first 11 player, I don't see how anyone can argue with getting rid of him. Perhaps there was nobody available that the club wanted to replace him with. One thing for sure that had MP desperately wanted a signing and it was refused the papers would have had a sniff. According to most media Nicola was moving SRL on to west ham, so to keep him,Shaw and Corky, will do for me.

I watched QT last night and something confused me. All guests blamed man made climate change and that's why we need to cut emmisons blah blah blah. But some came out with this " made your bed better lie in it" line, live on flood plains, get flooded , get over it. They don't seem to realise you can't have it both ways. If man has made the flooding worse, then people should be compensated. You can't call it an act of god on one hand and man made climate change on the other.

Come on, have some respect for the wet fannies football knowledge. I haven't got a clue if Norwich's 4th choice centre back is better than jos, whether crystal palace's back up left back is any good or who the **** is in hull's squad. The wet fannies obviously know, so hats off to them.

How do you know they've strengthened are you mystic ****ing Meg? Before a balls been kicked you've worked out that every buy in the window strengthens each side. Forget Andy grey coming back, BT should employ you. I bet you were one of the clowns who was wetting their pants when the Delgado video was played, he really strengthened us didn't he?

For the old farts out there. Never really been a massive ELO fan, but saw a documentary on Jeff Lynne. I only watched it for the George Harrison stuff, but found it quite interesting. Evidently he has re recorded all the old hits, playing all the instruments and all the vocals to give it a modern "feel". Decided to check it out, and it was pretty good. I was surprised as I found myself singing along and getting a bit nostalgic. For a sixty something he's got a great voice and is obviously highly talented. If you're an old bastard, it's well worth a listen. The album has all the strings on , but he did a fantastic acoustic piece on the documentary. [video=youtube;6-7vfDbkDhU]

I think he's Fox and we've seen the last of him. He's now on the Forest forums.
-
Spot on, It was also the situation we got ourselves in under Lowe. If he had £10mil to spend , he'd have spent it on 4 players. We have seen that identifying the right target and then going big on them strengthens the team. Lovren & Victor walked straight in and not only strengthen the 11, but the bench. Our back up became Cork & Yoshida, under Lowe we'd have bought 4 players at the same level as Cork & Yoshida. The gamble of Osvaldo didn't work, but on paper he's an Italian international that should have strengthened the side.

Who gives a shiny sheite where Heineken is brewed, id rather drink a pint of flood water than that crap. I find the lack of understanding and compassion towards people who are suffering in the floods disgraceful . There was even a labour mp who shouted out "teach them to swim" during questions in the house. What a difference there would be if labour supporting cities were flooded and their voters had to swim down the dole office and to buy their booze and fags, all the lefties would be overdosing on compassion.
-
The difference is the players you've named performed before their brushes with referees , fans or whatever. Lets not forget this chump was a ****ing let down BEFORE the incident with Jose. All I keep hearing or reading was how good he is ECT . Not in a saints shirt, he wasn't. He was poor, with a poor attitude. I would have shipped him out this Jan regardless of whether he banjoed Jose. He had every opportunity to do well in the best league in the world, in a side that were flying, and he wasn't up to it. End of.

If someone we've been keeping tabs on suddenly becomes available at the right price, then ok fine. But just trawling around for a centre forward ala Arry is madness. We dont just talk the talk, when it comes to nippers and that sends out a powerful message to the next generation of parents who sit down and decide where their kids go. Having a pathway to the first team has to be a living and breathing thing, not just a set of words. What sends out the message that we're the club to sign for if your young and wanted by all the top teams, filling an Osvaldo sized gap with a Carlos kickaball on loan , or promoting a youngster whose been doing well in the stiffs. What could illustrate this more than when clyne was out during the last window. Instaed of signing a journeyman to fill in, we promoted young chambers and he's come on tremendously. Where would he be in his devolopment if we'd got someone else in? And what do other youth parents and players think when they see him getting a chance.
-
I know for a fact that when they were premier league under Arry they tried to poach a nipper from Boscombe's academy and offered his parents a bung to oil the wheels . It was turned down in the end because the kid didn't want to travel and was happy locally. It was a mate of mines kid and I was party to one of the conversations a head skate honcho had with the dad. At the time they were interested in my nipper, so I had a few dealings with the said skate. ( Mrs duck even let him in the house once, which was bordering on divorce behaviour) .so moaning about it now is a bit rich.
-
When Nicola walked out,who thought we'd get through the window with the manager still in situ and none of our stars gone? Yet some people are still moaning about lack of ambition and penny pinching. Its short termism dinosaurs like fat sam and arry that run around doing this deal and that deal in jan, throwing mud against a wall and hoping some of it sticks. Its like a desperado asking every chick in the night club out, hoping he'll get lucky in the end. I much prefer the Southampton way of steady evolution.

Far better player than Harding ever was or ever will be. There aren't many players that have got this club promoted to the top flight in its long history and fox is one of them. He deserves respect for that and should always be welcomed back at the club and given a decent reception. That season in the championship was fantastic , so thanks for the memories, and good luck.
-
Nonsense. Letting Fox go is a no brainer, you don't need a replacement for him. We have centre halves to replace Lovren, they may not be as good but our squad consisted of 4 centre halves, plus Victor could fill in. We have enough cover for GR , as we're strong in that role and he didn't start anyway. That just leaves Osvaldo. Why not use Sam G as back up to Rickie, with JRod able to fill in? When Clyne was unfit, Chambers stepped up to the plate after being give a chance. Who is to say Sam G wont, the signs were promising on Tuesday. I'd rather that than another Carlos-kick-a-ball whose only here for the money. Why do we have to scramble around and get ripped off in the Jan window, its nothing to do with being tight we only got Foren in last Jan and look how that worked out? Unless there's someone we wont, have tracked and is good value, lets promote from within.

Would you change positons with Sunderland?
Lord Duckhunter replied to Barry Sanchez's topic in The Saints
Imagine you're a foreign billionaire looking to invest in English football bazza ,maybe Chinese or from Qatar trying the break into the premiership,. Would you giving a flying fig about the league cup runners up ( following the mighty Bradford), or would you be more bothered about a clubs chances of survival and buying into a guaranteed premiership side. Imagine you are the latest bazza-kick-a-ball , star striker interested in plying your trade in the premier league. Will you sign for a side that finished ninth , played some great stuff and were never in danger of relegation. Or the runners up in the league cup who flirted with relegation all season long? I don't get all this "good day out " shiete connected to cup finals, its only a good day if you win it, and if you think Sunderland will beat man c bazza, you're deluded. So no, I wouldn't swap places. Not in a million years. -
Top top performance for all but the first 10 mins of the second half. Gave them an absolute run around first half. Outclassed and out Arsenaled. I've seen them harried and outmuscled before, but not had the **** taken out of them like that. Wonderful, and with the spine out. No Lovren,no victor and no Rickie, amazing performance. That said, a couple of soft goals cost us, Jrod really poor for the first one and the left flank badly exposed for the second. Great for Jose, a real popular goal that one. Midfield superb, and I thought chambers was fantastic tonight. On Monday Neil Warnock said on Alan brazils show that Clyne is the best English right back in the league, its touch and go if he's the best right back at Southampton , let alone the league. Without a shadow if a doubt thus is the most exciting side I've seen since lawrie's day. I feel so proud and privileged to be there to see it.

It's a real shame the war came to an end so early, 10 years would have been a fantastic achievement.
-
Where would it be if Brown and Balls were still in charge? Where will we be if Labour are given another go, where France is heading , seeing as Milliband hailed Hollande and said "This new leadership is sorely needed as Europe seeks to escape from austerity". When people come to cast their vote in 2015,luckily they can look around at other places that have tried the Labour remedy. France for economics and Wales for health.
-
I've always regretted the fact that a world war didn't break out in 1976, it would have been nice to have pinched their record. Still I live in hope that it may yet happen, and now I'm in my 50's I won't get called up. That's a win/win

The Southampton Transfer Committee...

Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 2-0 Yeovil - (FA Cup 4th Round)
Lord Duckhunter replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I thought we just went through the motions and were really poor. Good save from Kelvin at 1-0, had they got that one it would have been different. MoM , Clyne IMO, thought he got forward well and showed good energy. Yoshida's passing was woeful at times. Moved from the Kingsland to the Northam for this one, and some of out yoof in there are complete and utter idiots. Not funny, not original and seem incapable of stringing 3 words together without using the F and C words, trying to taunt Yeovil fans is pretty pathetic as well, one bloke kept shouting "go to your home games", whatever that means. One was so intoxicated he kept walking to the wrong row every time he went for a whizz and another kept calling Yoshida, Fonte (obviously a regular lol). Spoke to my mate afterwards who normally sits in there and he reckons there were a lot of strangers today and it's not normally that bad. I was really ready to do an Osvaldo to some of them, but my lad kept calming me down. -
What if Man City offer £75mil, do we say "no we promised our fans we wont sell anyone"? Everybody has a price. Shaws price will be higher in Jan, but if clubs want to pay that premium and not wait till summer nobody, will turn that down, even Cortese.

So on the one hand we have a guy who stepped down a league to sign for us, who has been nothing but class and professional since signing, who has been with us all the way on our remarkable journey, who let a previous manager screw his wife (joke), who has never acted too big for his boots, or given anyone any reason to think he's a billy big bollards. And on the other hand we have a bloke who has punched team mates at least twice, who just got himself suspended for getting involved when he had nothing to do with it, who has been pulled away from confrontations a couple of times this season, who runs off when we lose with no acknowledgement of the fans, who was hated by the fans of his last club and who plays like he's doing us a favour. I know who I think is to blame. I hope the whole of SMS give it one big "Jose Fonte Baby" if he plays tomorrow, cause he's one of us. That Carlos Kick-a-ball aint.End of *Post written after a few Tanglefoots.

Jose stepped down a league to sign for us, was clearly a class above the standard we were at and has been with us all the way on this great journey. Never once has the bloke ever acted big time and has been professional and classy every step of the way. For some big time Charlie to come along and do that to him, makes my blood boil. I just wish that KL had the money and the will to tell him to **** off, sack him and sue him for the transfer money like Chelsea did to mutu. It'll be a sad day if that twt wears a saints shirt again.
