I just love where all this "potential" has come from . I lost count of the number of "he clearly has ability" posts we've had about this guy. He is quite young for a keeper, but has not looked anything like good enough this season. He's cost us points, even when we've won (QPR) he looked like Mike Gatting fielding a googlie. From what I can tell his "ability" and "potential" is based on, one save against Newcastle, Good timewasting, good kicking, Nigel playing him. If I remember correctly Bart was younger than him when he made his debut, and at that time looked a class above this guy.

Depends on how this Lord Rennard story develops over the week. It's getting nearer and nearer to Cleggy , with his parliamentary aide admitting that "she took action" after the women confided in her. It beggars belief that accusations were made against the CEO of the party, that Clegg's parliamentary aide took action over it, yet didn't tell Cleggy????? The same guy then steps down for "health reasons". Come on!!! I have a feeling it'll be the normal small lie that'll do for Cleggy on this. He didn't do anything, nothing has been proved yet, but by claiming he knew nothing of the allegations he's leaving himself wide open. If this gathers legs it could tip the balance against the Lib/dems despite strong local representation. No wonder they went for a short campaign...........

Didn't watch motd, but soccer Saturday said next 5 were winnable games for qpr. I personally wouldn't write them off yet. I still think those 2 points dropped at Wigan could come back go haunt us. Norwich, Swansea, Wigan and stoke we really chucked away points, we should be sitting here with at least 4 more, sitting pretty

The government ****ed this up politically by putting too much emphasis on the AAA rating. Yes, it was important to keep borrowing at rock bottom rates, but the ratings are just a guide. Its down to the markets and provided they've still got confidence rates will remain low. The us lost their status, but continue to borrow at low rates. Cameron and Osborne put too much on the actual status rather than the rate. For that basic mistake they deserve all the stick coming to them. Peter Hitchens offered the opinion that we're not seeing a downturn but national decline. A decline overseen by both major parties. I tend to agree, neither party are prepared to make cuts, its all tinkering around the edges, just kicking the can down the road in the hope of getting elected. We have a health service and welfare system based on a 1950's view of the world and both need major reform. Nobody will do it, because it makes them unelectable. We have spent 40 years living above our means and do not want to deal with that fact. You can change government, but the thinking will remain the same. They just think the deck chairs should be arranged differently. The ship is still going down.

Nor do the stewards at football.

I watched the bit on soccer Saturday and noticed one of the PST called it a "hybrid bid" . Has anyone heard them use this expression before , because I've only ever heard them talk of fan ownership. They seem to be moving towards accepting that its a few rich people using fans money, rather than a fan owenership. I thought that turn of phrase was very telling.

Heard a guy on 5live the other night discussing this. He said it cost the same to go to the cinema in the 70's as it did to watch top flight football. Now it's £8.50 for cinema and £35 for football.

The whole education system and "choice" is corrupted by money. Whether it's richer people moving into the catchment of good state schools, richer people paying tutors to school their kids into Grammar, or rich paying for private education. Why do people do the 3 things mentioned, because some state schools are awful.

Believe it or not FIFA have been known to say one thing and do another. They used to refuse to consider any technology, including the goal line. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/international/7385130/Fifa-rule-out-goal-line-technology.html
-
Like it did at Wolves?
-
Maybe so, but what if the goal comes from a cross made that was clearly behind the line and should have been a goal kick. Why should one line decision be made using technology and not another one? Its like having Hawkeye on the base line but not the service line in tennis. I bet there are more result altering mistakes made after erroneous corners and off sides than there ever are goal line stuff. It will lead to more and more and eventually reviews. In cricket it started for line decisions only and has now spread to lbw. In my opinion the same will happen in football. It can't be right that a man can be 5 yards offside but have goal given after Hawkeye confirms his effort crossed the line. It's like Hawkeye giving the batsmen out caught behind off a no ball, where you use the technology to establish he hit the ball, but can't use it to determine it was a no ball. Once you accept one form of technology, who seriously believes it'll end there?

Reminds me of a story my mate told me about his jury service. They discussed the case for about 2 hours and they had 8 not guiltys 3 unsure and one defo guilty. They asked the guy why he thought guilty as none of the others were of that opinion,. His reply was "because he's a gypsy and their all robbing gets" (the case was robbing from a building site).
-
Just been reading the reasons the judge dismissed the jury in his wifes case. They came back with a set of questions, one of which was asking if they could base a verdict on reasons not presented in court and there was no evidence for. Where on earth do they get these idiots from. I hope I'm never up on a charge with half wits like that on the jury. They also wanted to know what reasonable doubt meant.... Surely there should be some IQ test before serving. Jesus Christ.

Goal line stuff is the thin end of the wedge. What happens if Ricky punches one in ala maradona style at ot, it hits the bar comes down on the line , and is given by video reply. Is sir Alex going to say fair play, or are we going to get the line "why use cameras for one incident and not others, and the cameras are there why not use them". You'll then end up with subjective decisions as well as factual ones. Did Suarez deliberately handle against Mansfield? What about an offside goal, that's a line decision, throw ins lead to goals. We'll end up with cameras for every incident because managers will push and push for it by moaning when non camera stuff goes against them

Has anyone got any idea how last weeks cup reults and draw affect this kick off and the chances of a switch

Sturrock went to 2 world cup finals, played in a UEFA cup final and won the SPL twice ( no mean achievement when not playing for Celtic or Rangers), people should remember that. He wasn't some sort of Mike Bassett wurzel who didn't know the game. He had a solid lower league record as manager, was a good player (certainly better than Kevin Phillips IMO) and therefore was worth a go. My issue with the whole thing, is why Lowe allowed him preseason. If he was going to get rid, he should of done it in the summer.

UKIP candidate says Romanians are associated with crime....
Lord Duckhunter replied to Hockey_saint's topic in The Lounge
Nobody votes for a government bazza, in fact nobody votes for a party. You vote for a local member to represent you. Your member can switch parties , form an alliance with another party or basically do what he damn well wants to once elected. This government is as legimate as any that went before it. Cameron carries a majority in the commons and that's all that matters, not how many people voted for him , voted for his government or technicaly even voted for his party. -
I played local football at various levels for 32 years, including some that was high enough to have qualified linos, but most just had a qualified ref, with the kit man or such like doing it. My understanding is that non qualified lino's just give direction of throw ,corners goal kicks and offside decisions. As for changing his mind, he's perfectly entittled to do this provided the next phase of play hadn't started IE kick off. Most qualified refs will spell it out to club lino's before the game. I used to get upset with useless refs but as I got older learnt that its just not worth it. Towards the end i used to get quite friendly with the refs and found things went my way a bit more. If you treat them as blokes who love the game as much as you,are doing their best and will **** up as much as you do, you'll be surprised how many 50/50 go your way. I used to praise them, things like "good half ref" and " you were right" even if it was against me. I also used to give it the old "nice to see you again" when going up for the coin flip. Basically , creep round them. Come the big decision , and he's on your side. Most are petty and will give decisions against the team that argues with them. I found if they thought I was reasonable, then started acting unreasonably, then they thought I must of had a point. Geoff Boycott once said that there were batsmen who used to walk a lot before being given out. The umpires used to know that they walked and respected them for it. One day they would be on a big score, get an edge and not walk. The umpire would think that they couldn't be out because they hadn't walked, so gave them not out. Its the same principle. There's maybe only one or two big decisions that will effect the result, what you need is to get the guy on your side by not arguing about the ones that don't matter. My son once got sent off for arguing over a throw in, suspended and fined over a stupid throw in.......

I would say that what sums up a lot of what's wrong with broken Britain is the fact that the sun is its number one paper. It shows our morals, our trashy culture, our political debate and our education standards. I just love the birds with their tits out who comment on the worlds great events. "Cindy 19 from Exeter is really sad the pope is stepping down, so have a look at her tits". Nobody will spell out the truth because the numpties that buy the sun also vote. Much easier to attack journalists & Murdoch instead.
-
I'm talking about lefties on poll tax funded BBC and guardian writters etc. Basically famous lefties, not forum posters. I've lost count of the number of times the sun and Murdoch has been attacked on qt, with no mention of the fact people buy it. Of course lefties can't criticise the readership because its a lot of the people they'll be defending in the next breath.
-
What's the big deal, if people are offended by it then don't buy it. Always makes me laugh when right on lefties complain about it, but won't have a word said against the chavs that buy it. Its not like its funded by a poll tax and you have to pay for it regardless of whether you read it or not. It is the number one selling paper, not by accident, but by appealing to a large portion of the country. Nobody forces people to buy it
-
I just cant believe how clueless people are down there, including the local MP. Yes, footballers are rich and most can afford to take a haircut on what they're owed, but that's not the point. The Football creditors rule is there to ensure that clubs don't go round buying players that they cant afford (don't laugh). How many other clubs would do a Pompey if they knew that they only had to pay players X amount in the £ if it all went tits up. If there's no football creditors rule, what's to stop clubs buying players and knocking the selling club? Selling clubs would then be forced into admin, because other clubs had refused to pay. It would be like a house of cards with one clubs admin bringing 5/5 clubs down with it.

I was right by the peno decision and I must admit that I didn't think it was. Thought it would have been a harsh one to give. However, so many people on here are adamant that it was one, I must have been wrong. I'll watch on MoTD and see.

Great, just a great performance. Special mention to Foxy, thought he did well and his quick free kick pass from left to right to Lambert contributed to second goal. Joy Rod, Davis, and Cork were all top quality. But MoTM was Lambert, I thought he was different class today. To play like that with lallana, Gaston and Shaw not starting bodes well. Great day, results great. We're staying up.
