I got home about 12.30 and settled down to watch taped MoTD. Couldn't believe it, it looked like they were all over us. Showed some of our better possession when Shearer went through it afterwards. Had that been Utd, they would have shown Adams shot at the end during the main highlights. Joke coverage. Saw a Utd season ticket holder on the train and he said he was impressed with our support. Funny moments at Euston where a lot of Man C supporters were coming home from West Ham and started giving all the Utd day trippers stick. Train was full of London Utd supporters all with their mega store bags and cameras.

If we win I don't really care if I miss the train. My Manc mate reckons the overground by the away end is best and there's 2 trains that'll get me there on time. Weighing up whether to risk the queue as I might not get on the first two, or pegging it back on foot. Back on subject, I quite like the look of the Bulls Head, does anyone know if my 14 year old will be allowed in?

If Lambert ends this season like he's ended the last two, I really can't see it. He's looked whacked come April time, maybe Osvaldo will take some of the workload and this will help. If people are honest he's not setting the world alight in a saints shirt, but seems to have impressed woy with his attitude. Gut feeling , he won't take Carroll or Rickie, reckon it'll be Rooney, wellbeck and sturridge with Defoe. I suspect woy will want Walcott, aoc & Townsend and to accommodate all 3 he'll leave a forward out. Couple of injuries and he may get in, but he needs a big year.

Just double checked the train tickets and its 18:15. Looks like a brisk walk whilst looking out for a taxi is the only way. Reckon I can walk it in about an hour, provided the lunchtime beer has worn off.

Why do you think Lambert gets classed as a "big lump"?
Lord Duckhunter replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
I've never heard or read any journo, manager, pundit or fellow pro call him a big lump. I've never personally heard another sides supporters call him that, but accept that they probably have done. Must guys seem pretty impressed with him. I did get a mate from cov text " should have played Lambert" after the Ukraine game (which I thought was quite a good bit of banter), but most people I speak to rate him. -
We're going to be by Piccadilly, normally check the good beer guide ECT for decent ale house. First time that we're going up and back in a day and need to be back for 1800 train. My manc nate reckons avoid metro after game and get overground or even walk. From memory its too far to walk, but has anyone used the overground , he reckons from the away end its a piece of ****.

They're both pretty poor at pmq , but Red Ed is particularly bad. Not that it makes that much difference. William Hague used to murder Blair and have them rolling in the aisles but it didn't do much for his vote in the country.

I actually go on holiday to spend time with my family, and that includes the kids. Some of my favourite memories are of the 6 of us eating out abroad together.

The fact that this came as a surprise (he was playing in all the papers) , together with the translation gives me hope that it was touch and go tonight and he's left out out as a precaution. Certainly would be worried if Poland had something to play for and left him out. Get him back tomorrow and work on him. In my opinion I would rather he missed man u away (let's face it even with ab, it'll be a struggle) than other games. No point in him making it worse at old Trafford and then Davies cocks it up away at stoke or home to Fulham.

In tonights crime watch Kate says "we're not the ones who have done something wrong here". I'm sorry love but you have. As sorry as I feel for them, and it must be heartbreaking, the simple truth is they left an innocent child on its own. This is not one of those " this could have happened to anyone " crimes. It could of only have happened to irresponsible parents who put their social life above the well being of their children. Had it been a chav who nipped up the shop for a packet of fags, they'd have faced the full force of the British moral police and no doubt had the other children taken away. The BBC and other organisations seem incapable of covering this objectively. I've brought up 4 kids and not only would we not dream of leaving any of them like they did, do not know one of the dozens of families we've met over the years would do the same. Gone are the days when kids sat in the car with a bottle of pop and a bag of crisps, you can find hundreds of places where you can take them in with you, particularly in a holiday resort. This lack of acceptance of any blame is nauseating as is the fawning from politicians and media outlets. The simple fact is the people to blame for this are the evil bastards or bastard who took her and the selfish irresponsible McCann's.

After 3 boys we finally got our little girl so Mrs Duck said "enough is enough " and sent me off to the doctors. Initial"think it over "chat and wanting to speak to Mrs Duck , he gave me the green light. "We do it here in the surgery now" he said , I wasn't too impressed with that, even less so when he advised " a collauge from Portsmouth will conduct the procedure" (stright up). I made a mental note, dont wear saints kit, or let it slip im a scummer. Anyway, day before surgery gets a call . The skate has gone sick , can they rebook me. " fine no worries". I was playing Sunday football then and had advised manager I would be out for the weekend. No surgery, so I turned up to play. " What are you doing here, you weren't available". **** it, told them the story " was having the snip , cancelled ECT" . The centre half says" banging his mrs, never been the same since" , another bloke says his bollards went black, another says cried with pain. Back to the pub after game storries kept coming, my mate this and my mates that" swollen bolards, black and blue. So basically I bottled it. Cancelled the new date and informed mrs Duck that family planning was her department.

Who has been a naughty boy/girl then???

Perhaps he thoght she was fit. Surely a perk of the camera job is homing in on the chicks. -
As Alex Ferguson says "working hard is also a talent". Gaston gives the ball way in the wrong areas way too much and his set piece delivery is woeful. Matt's all round game was far better than his, Gaston is just not good enough at the basic stuff you need in English football.
-
Spot on. Somebody has decided to put this together to make money. Fair play to them, I think it's quite a good idea and maybe could spread to other players of other teams. They also have this Soccer Saturday tour and I see The Game podcast is going on the road as well, so there's obviously a market for this sort of stuff. But I fail to see why the club would be expected to put someone up. None of them would have played with Matt, and none to my knowledge were Saints supporters.
-
You've summed up there exactly what Fox is up against. Whatever he does he cant win. A "generic lofted into the box ball". What, did it just happen to land in perfectly between the back 4 and the keeper and, just happened to find the head of our best header of the ball. It's about hitting an area, and he hit it perfectly and with the right pace. If you think he's shiete, fine, but don't try and rewrite history. That was a good delivery, certainly better than anything Rameriez has delivered from set pieces since he's been here.

I'm 49, so I'm well aware of their contribution to the club, but I dont think that automatically mean the club should support a commercial enterprise like this.
-
Xavi wasn't appearing as a representative of Barca but as a fan, surely you can see that Adam and Rickie would be doing so as representatives of SFC. Whther you like it or not the CEO of any company is perfectly entittled to block any use of his company for commercial gain. How is this much different from the after dinner circuit? Would you expect the club to hire out its employees free of charge to an explayer making money from that. Just randomly having a "tribute to night" looks suspiously like a money making oppurtunity to me. Fair play to the people who make the money and fair play to the people who want to go, who knows it maybe so sucsessful they'll have another one next year, but why should the club be slagged off for not wanting their players involved?

Saints playing for England (and other internationals)
Lord Duckhunter replied to Bewildered's topic in The Saints
Redknapp's gonna big himself up again. -
If the city had honoured him, if it was for charity, if he was ill or passed away then you would have a point. Nobody has suggested it was anything other than a commercial event. Rickie and Adam would be contributing , not as supporters as I dont believe that either ever have been, but as representatives of the club. Maybe the club dont want they're emplyees being used to help the promoters profit. Matt's my joint favourite player and lawrie my favourite manager, but when will this matt & lawrie roadshow end, and why should the club put someone up when its a commercial venture? Who was the promoter?
-
Just to make it absolutely clear, I have no problem at all with someone arranging this. If people want to attend, then that's up to them. My point is that if it was a commercial money making night, then it is understandable that some people or organisations don't want to be involved.
-
I don't particularly want to get into a bunfight, but what was the reason behind this tribute? I know he was to most our greatest player, certainly in the top 3, but what triggered this particular night. I could understand it if he'd reached a milestone, maybe his 60th birthday, or 30 years since he signed. He's not died, is not ill to my knowledge, or is retiring from the club. Was it a charity venture or a commercial one. If it's a commercial one, then maybe this is the reason the club didn't want anyone involved in an official capacity. Is there going to be another one in 5,10,15 years time, maybe one for Lawrie or Franny? To me, his tribute was his testimonial , but I find this whole tribute thing a bit strange if it's just a random date. If it's a money making commercial venture, then good luck to them, but I can well understand some people not wanting to get involved if that's the case.

Southampton the 4th crappest town in the UK

If Bazza moved back, they'd have to. If I paid £1 for a house and then found out Bazza lived nearby, I'd want some change. -

I used to stay with a mate from Southport, whenever saints played up north . Must be 20 odd years ago now. Some great nights. My mate emigrated , so don't go there now. One thing I remember was being up there one orangeman's day , must of been around '92. Could not believe it, all marching through Southport like it was ****ing Belfast or something. Big booze up more than anything sinister, but I was not aware of it up there before I saw it. Don't know if it still goes on. -

Liverpool is a great city with some great people, I love visiting, but personally prefer living on the south coast. Maybe I could be tempted to Southport or somewhere similar, but personally i prefer the quiet life here in Poole. The weather is better, there's enough pubs and restaurants for me and we're a stones throw from beautiful beaches and countryside. I've met plenty of liverpudlians over the years and not many of them ever moved back, so it can't be to everyones taste. At the end of the day, if you're happy and feel you're at home, does it matter what any ody else thinks. I have lived in many places and this is the place I've most felt like I belong . -
The middle class, whether families or pensioners should not be "receiving" or "claiming" benefits. Nothing will be done about it because they vote in large numbers. As a nation we spend enough money on welfare, but it is spread way too thinly. The giverment is handing over millions to feed the middle class' kids, heat their homes, pay for their tv licences , pay them for just having children whilst an underclass struggle to get by from week to week. We over tax the average person and then distribute it back to them in various benefits. The overriding view is "I've paid for the welfare state, so I am entittled to something back". Why ?. I pay my house insurance, that doesn't mean im entittled to money back from The Nationwide. However it gives be the peace of mind that if disaster fell , they'd be there for me. Why can't people view the welfare state the same way. We have over 80k coming into our house each year from 3 earners, why should I be able to claim £140 odd pound a month child benefit. That money doesn't grow on trees, it either comes from the pockets of the poor via lower benefits for them, out of the working mans taxes , or is borrowed by the giverment be paid back by my children and grandchildren.
