Admitting to being the kind of person who regularly phones or texts into radio or TV shows and trying to claim to be a winner really don't fit well together.

I was on a temporary contract when our (one year) maternity /paternity leave ran out. I refused a new contract and stayed at home with my daughter for an extra year unpaid. Money was tight, but it was one of the best things I ever did. Let's face it, you won't look back in 15 years time and think "I wish I'd worked more when the kids were young." I love being with my kids and even though I loved my job too, it was no contest. It's much better for their development too. It was only very good for our relationship too, far less stress in the house. I was replaced in my job during that year, but ended up getting a better one immediately after. Not a single regret.

What this all seems to prove is that we've been really weak in centre midfield for 10 years. Oakley was never better than average and he seems to be the only stand out choice, unless you move Marsden infield.

Most people would surely stop reading after the horrific opening line: "Good day to you sir". Would you ever actually start a formal or informal conversation with anybody with those words?
-
There's more detail about it . It's worth seeing.

Wow, to get into the playoffs would almost certainly have needed us to have made 94 points with a brand new team that was still being assembled when the season had already started. That would have been a pretty big expectation. I think you'd have to spend even more than we did to guarantee that.

There are loads of articles out there that point out why the way the Mail and Express twisted the source info made it wrong. The original article did indeed criticise Brown, but says nothing negative about immigration. The facts actually show that more than 50% of new jobs went to non-immigrants. Pointing out the spin: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/greenslade/2010/apr/09/the-spectator-dailymail Original article by a "fan of immigration": http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/5895033/british-jobs-for-british-workers.thtml To balance up, comments from left wing outlets (not my preferred reading material, but a balance to the spin and misinterpretation of the Mail and Express): http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/art.php?id=20880 http://www.leftfootforward.org/2010/04/the-express-is-wrong-half-of-all-new-jobs-have-gone-to-uk-citizens/ A simple google search gets you a lot of hits pointing out you can't use the information the way Dune has. You can even spin it the other way to point out that of the 1.67 million new jobs created, 1.4 million had gone to British nationals. It's not that the original information was inaccurate, but it doesn't show you what the Mail, Express or Dune think it does or want people to believe it does. The Express probably knew that as they somehow "forgot" to even provide a link back to the source article. There are points to be made on the immigration issue, and loads of reasons to criticise labour, but Dune's second hand article was a poor example as it was pretty dishonest.

You got pulled up for quoting that last time. If you follow that information that was in the Express and Mail back to its source, you see some quite different information gathered by somebody whose actual viewpoint was in favour of inmigration.

No he hasn't. Not in any of his posts and if you remember he's the one who didn't show up. The most he ever did was offer to meet up and discuss the matter. Wiltshire Saint on the other hand is clearly spoiling for a fight and apparently has a bit of a history of public brawling. He threatened to "duff" him up and actually went to the Plume to carry it through.
-
On a thread about how disproportionately you get treated for causing trouble at a match, you arrange to meet at a match? Seems to me you were too scared to meet up at the pub and now you're looking to meet up somewhere you'll have a nice police presence to protect you.
-
I understand that this Wagon bloke ran off with his tail between his legs, as I think we all expected, but my question to you is: How would you have reacted if you'd turned up for a "chat" and there had been lots of policemen there, clearly watching you and some even openly filming you? -Would you have seen that it was obvious that if you misbehaved then they were going to crack down on you, then calmly have walked away, showing that as grown ups, we all have a choice over our actions? -Or would you have carried on anyway and accepted anything up to the maximum penalty, knowing that it was a risk you were taking at the time, showing that you were man enough to take responsibility for your actions? -Or would you have gone ahead with it, then started a thread on here crying like a little girl that it was so unfair that they were picking on you?
-
If the police were all visibly lining the road and pointing speed cameras at him while he did it, he'd have to be a ****ing dimwit who should accept the maximum punishment if he still did it. Just stop your crying and whinging on the subject. They can't give a higher punishment than was already publicly available. There's no news here. If a crime is punishable by up to 2 years and you knowingly and deliberately break it right in front of a policeman you have to be a complete imbecile to complain if you get two years. No offence.

See nothing wrong with Dune changing his vote, most people should be open to doing so. I liked this line "A spokesman for the BNP said the remarks were made after Mr Edmonds had been verbally abused in the street." Remember, casual racism is fine, if somebody calls you names (or if you're Baj)
-
The opening post was pretty confused actually.
-
In my opinion, you're only a proper football fan if you are aggressive towards other people who support the football team of their local area. Proper grown up football fans call each other names and throw things at each other. We need more fans who want to wait around after school the match to fight and shout names. Too many plastics on here.

No Mark Wright on there, one of England's best in that tournament, playing as a sweeper. It would have added another former saint as well. Shilton, Woods, Petrescu and Townsend were the only former saints I spotted Italia 90 makes me think of Rijkaard spitting on Rudi Voller, Roger Milla taking the ball off Rene Higuita and scoring an easy goal and Gascoigne and Platt combining against Belgium.

There's a pretty big difference between a national day and a saints day. I think the whole idea of a national saint is pretty lame and would never celebrate it. A national day can be a great thing though, if done correctly. The national day over here is huge (the saints day goes unnoticed) and is second place only to Christmas. Norway has been independent only for about 100 years and was occupied during the war, so may have more to celebrate, but the day itself has nothing to do with those. The reason it's such a loved day over here, by natives and immigrants alike, is that it is nearly entirely about the children. My daughter's been looking forward to it since Christmas. There is a huge parade and the entire population comes out onto the streets and I mean everyone. The parade focuses mostly on children, but any group, association or society can join in. Last year I took part with my kids' nursery. Behind us were The Norwegian Malaysian society (in national costume) and just ahead were the Scottish society, complete with bagpipe band. It doesn't work so well over there because too many people want to celebrate to the exclusion of other resident cultures, here they're invited to join in and show their love for the country they live in. Here, flag waving is a very positive, inclusive thing and it's very rare to see a house with no flagpole, but that's because it centres around children. The national day is for them, not for people shouting about some ridiculous saint or about being British/English and certainly not about politics.

We have PR here, the main result is that every government is a coalition. Nobody can get a big enough majority to take control otherwise, so the smaller/medium size parties pimp themselves around a bit. Often they can make pretty big demands to get another party in as well. For example Høyre (the conservatives) had to bring in The Christian Democrats a while back to get power. Despit being smaller, the Christian Democrats insisted on and got their man in as prime minister, twice. Now we've got Labour, the socialist left and the centre party working together. Luckily for now, nobody wants to work with the hard right. We're divided up into counties and each county gets a certain number of seats depending on size. So my county gets 14 or 15 MPs decided by how many votes each party got. There are then 19 "levelling seats" given out across the country to make up for any unfairness of numbers of MPs in relation to percentage of votes. I think.
-
I think ideally we need somebody who's been around since the late nineties. I can't think of any other requirements. Any suggestions?

It's worth noting that Exeter have only lost at home 4 times this season. That's better than nearly all of the teams outside of the playoffs. They're playing Charlton and Huddersfield at home and have a lot to play for. There's also a very good chance of Colchester taking 3 points from Huddersfield as they have it all to play for too. It would also be 8 wins in a row for us, not 7.

What no poll on who should replace Morgan in the middle out of Wotton, James, Gillett, Lallana, Puncheon, Antonio, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Pulis?
-
Yes, yes, this is to do with being politically correct. I can see the connection. It's to do with unfair discrimination. Well done.
-
Pompey fans could never have managed something like this. Makes me proud to be a saint. COYR!

You can vote for 15 years after you were last registered. I agree that long term expats shouldn't really vote. No reason not to if you're going back within that government's term though. I'm on 11 years now so I can, but won't.

Alex Ferguson's Man United lost a few times to lowly Southampton and others, including a 6-3 walloping, despite spending a huge amount of money to make sure they had the best team in the division. Sometimes the teams that aren't as good manage to get a result. They should've sacked Ferguson back in the nineties.
