  1. Are you sure? Can you link me to somewhere it confirms that, because everything I've read says that they can only have one live match from now on because of the new rules, including on the web. I know a lot of people have cancelled their subscriptions to TV2 channel and TV2 Sumo, the online part. Brilliant if that's wrong, though. As far as I know firstrow isn't being banned here anyway.
  2. Norway has two economic classes, those getting oil money and those not. Those in the offshore industry can easily afford those city bars and restaurants and a taxi afterwards, most other people can't, but many Norwegians are running up huge debts trying to follow that lifestyle. I do some occasional work for the oil ministry and they pay me three times my normal wage. It's insane. The only time I ever use a taxi is when I'm with the wife and it's her company paying. It is however possible to live an amazing life here very cheaply indeed, but few tourists or short stay visitors get to see how that works.
  3. reduced to 20 overs and England looking like missing out on their first one-day trophy again. Chasing 130, currently on 65 for 4 after 12 overs.
  4. Oslo, replacing Tokyo. Link Probably no surprise to anyone who's visited.
  5. You see, your desperate and dull hangers-on may think they're riding your coat tails by writing yo on every other post and copying your style, but none of them have an ounce of your wit. Beautiful.
  6. Definitely over-analysing it, footballers talk in clichés. Not much they say stands up to much scrutiny.
  7. Maybe we should have a thread of things it's good for expats to know about? I know most of us are pretty well integrated into our new home countries, but it's always nice to have good ways to stay in touch with your own culture. TV One of the obvious ways I've had for years is to have either an old sky box or a freesat box and a decent size dish, so that you can still get all of the free channels. You can pick up a box pretty cheaply on ebay and most European countries have shops that can sort something out for you too. if you want paying channels, you need to have a friend start a subscription for you. Obviously this stuff only works if you're within the satellite footprint. Iplayer/4od etc These don't work outside the UK, but there are programmes you can install to hide where you are. I use expat shield, but it's quite an intrusive programme, so I make sure only to have it running while I'm watching something. Radio Up until recently I only used to get this through the digital TV described above. However I recently discovered a great app for the ipod or iphone called Tune-in pro, which allows you to receive any radio station in the world and set it as a favourite. I use it with my ipod touch, which I use with a dock and have perfect radio sound from any station. Contact with family back in the UK This used to cost a fortune, but obviously if you use Facetime or Skype, it's effectively free now. If you don't want an iphone, just get an ipod touch which is perfect for stuff like this. Surely other expats can share a few tips or give alternatives and improvements to that list.
  8. Have they been as considerate as TV2 and raised their prices for their reduced service?
  9. I'm in the same position of losing the PL on telly. Still available here, but far, far fewer matches and for more money. It's all the fault of that woman from pompey who was showing foreign satellite channels in her pub. Only one live match at a time from now on, I'm not imagining they'll choose saints enough to make it worth my while.
  10. I quite liked the bit on the BBC article where they point out he's lying: "I've never been a manager of a club that's been relegated [Luton were relegated while he was in charge in 2001]."
  11. Can't go too far wrong if he only costs 9 euros.
  12. I don't really understand posts like this. Are you posting it on here because you want to start a fan movement to make this happen or do you think this is actually a forum where ideas are put forward to the club? I know half the threads are speculative, but they're usually speculating about what sort of players we might be looking at or teams and formations the manager might be considering. This is a bit more like posting a dream you had.
  13. Out of the ones posted so far, I'd go with Rock a Hula baby by Elvis or The Model by Kraftwerk.
  14. Don't you dare act all deano about it, firstly, it's not the same and secondly, deano's come home! Now stop sulking and get back home now to say hello.
  15. Haven't you got somewhere better you could be spending your time? I think you need to go back to where you belong.
  16. I don't think many of his comments were as hilarious as they've subsequently been made out to be, I just think that having any wit at all made him stand out from the usual endless cliches. If one of my mates had said the "velocity" thing, I don't think it would have raised that many laughs and we certainly wouldn't be still talking about it ten years later. Instead of him being a great wit, I think he was just more refreshing and entertaining to listen to. I don't think there's any alternative career in comedy waiting. So yes, I agree, over-rated as wit, but the value was in having a manager with any wit at all, you have to appreciate that.
  17. Some of these suggestions really surprise me. Carlton Palmer a disappointment? He came with a reputation for being one of the worst players to play for England, then performed pretty well. Anders Svensson came with a big reputation? Nobody I knew had ever heard of him when he joined us from Elfsborg. Jason Euell had long been considered past it when he joined us, so it would've been crazy to have high expectations. Ones I agree with are Griffit, who looked like an amazing talent, scoring for fun in the reserves, then having a couple of good first team games where he scored, then being terrible in a very poor team performance against a rampant Arsenal and never recovering. Saganowski looked amazing until he got a contract. Prutton was a future England player who never really stood out even when we dropped a division. I agree with Speedie too. I hadn't followed him much, but had a Coventry supporting mate who went on and on about him being more skillful than Gazza. He wasn't.
  18. Are we linked to him or is this just a thread to say you like a player?
  19. Naturally it's the fault of somebody from portsmouth. Booo! http://www.itv.com/sport/football/article/2013-01-14/premier-league-to-restrict-european-broadcasters/
  20. Oh Deano deano, you'd only be welcomed with open arms and cherished like a lost lover. Things have quietened down a bit recently, your grandad's stormed out and is refusing to talk to any of us anymore, he's just being a bit crabby, but your fat old granny hasn't changed a bit. Come and say hello.
  21. Good post
  22. It does suck to be me, deano. Why don't you pop over for a visit some time, me and the kids still miss you.
  23. I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I'm sure it must be affecting others. I've been subscribing to the Premier League channels here in Norway over the last year. It costs a bit, but they have three channels each showing a live game, so I've been able to watch quite a lot of our matches for my money. however apparently because of new Premier league rules, they can now only show one live match at kick off time on Saturdays. They're obviously going to have to weight this heavily towards teams with a large fan-base, over here that's mostly United and Liverpool, followed by Arsenal, Chelsea etc. This means that I'm going to be lucky if I see one live game a month. Bizarrely TV2, who run the service, have tried to make this sound like a positive change and are actually increasing their subscription charges. Who else is going to be affected by this?
  24. I'm not sure how Adkins was proven not to be a premier league manager. In getting a team into the premier league (quite easily in the end) and getting them into a position where they weren't in a relegation position, surely the closest thing to being proved was that he was a premier league manager. He was fired for not being seen as the manager to take us on from that position to the next. I don't see what's so wrong with his message.
