Well, I saw them a few times and my conclusion was that in possession they played a 3421 with high wing-backs, two midfield pivots and two fantasistas looking to pick up space between the lines. Often they would form a box formation with the pivots. They aren't needed to drift wide much because the wing-backs are very high. The interesting thing is that in defensive formation, the back 3 drifts to the right so that the right centre back becomes a full back and the left wing back drops into the back line. In other words, they defended with a back 4. The left fantasista moves to a traditional left-midfield role. So, defensively, it's a 4411.

I'm not sure. Maybe there's a Johann Cruyff inside him and he will get a chance to show it one day but my view of Burnley is that they are a functional, pretty average Championship team who are likely to get relegated this season and whose finishing position last season is one of those counter-expectational results that happens in sport sometimes. They scored fewer goals in the league than we did last season. I'm not knocking his job. He's done a brilliant job there, I just haven't seen anything to suggest I would want him here. If we want to do a "get solid and stay up at all costs" job, then Fat Sam has the far better credentials IMO.

He was just gutted he lost a goal bonus, I expect.

I wonder if a diamond could work. Romeu at the base, Hojbjerg/JWP and Lemina as the up-and-downers and Armstrong at the tip. You could then play Redmond or Gabbiadini, and Ings. Sacrifices some width but if Redmond / Gabbi / Armstrong drift out intelligently then it could work. At the back I'd play Vestergaard and Yoshida with Stephens at right back against teams with physical presence up top. Against more technical or pacy teams then Stephens switches to CB and Cedric comes in at RB.

I completely agree with the sentiment. I don't care what division we are in if it's enjoyable. However, Championship with Kat, Ralph, Goa and Wee Ross will be a complete meltdown.

These are both correct. Our squad is quite ropey in a lot of areas but it's still quite good compared to rubbish like Cardiff, Newcastle, Huddersfield, Fulham, Burnley etc.
