WGS leaving was not a bad thing in itself (it was made a bad thing by the complete shambles that Lowe followed it with) - I don't think WGS could have taken us further and it was time for someone to pick up the mantle. That said, we now have a huge potential again and he seems as good as anyone when it comes to appointing someone to help fulfil it. My only concern is that things are never quite the same the second time...

What the devil are you talking about? He played his entire career in the top division. Apart from one good season at Blackburn, Shearer won sod-all in domestic football. I can only assume you are referring to international football? Hardly MLT's fault if he wasn't picked; I think most people would agree he was good enough to have earnt more than 8 caps.
