  1. Brilliant day for a long serving Saints supporter. Mid table second tier team against the 'mighty' Man Utd with lots of high quality players, yet we won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. To my mind we need to stiffen midfield which will in turn better protect the back four and goalkeeper. Also need a big lump up front which provides different attacking options, especially when chasing the game
  3. This must be quite worrying for the Management team as the club's strategy is to buy young players with potential eg Salisu, Diallo, Djneppo, McAdams etc, develop them and sell them on, whilst supplementing them with the cream of the Academy crop. It seems, for the moment, at least that talent from the home grown crop has withered significantly.
  4. I have had the pleasure of meeting MLT on a few occasions and found him to be an intelligent (for a footballer) and decent individual. That said I am really surprised about the contents of his twitter account. It is as though it has been hi jacked. As a Saints player he is up there with Mick Channon, Terry Paine and Ron Davies. I am so grateful for all the good times he has provided me with as a long suffering Saints supporter. You could not have written the script for the last goal of the Prem. Thank you MLT.
  5. I have a soft spot for Everton as a consequence of their history, their old fashioned ground (including dug outs!!!) and the fact that they are generally supported by people living in Liverpool, Wirral and N Wales.
  6. I cant remember seeing any posts linking climate change to nuclear explosions since WW2. The two H bombs dropped on Japan released significant amounts of pollutants and since then there have been numerous atomic bomb tests across the world. Surely this, relatively recent, detrimental impact on the ozone layer must have had some profound effect on the climate. Apparently there are over 40,000 nuclear warheads ready to go around the world. We have been relatively lucky so far but, to me, this is the world's biggest threat.
  7. As I understand it Everton have been given permission to build a £500m stadium on redundant port land in Liverpool. Any supporting developments will be by third parties I think. However it seems that Everton dont want to capitalise any revenue from selling the Goodison Park site and intend to retain it for community projects associated with the club.
  8. I played with both Wayne and Brian in my youth along with Bob Wakerley who I think was also from the IOW. RIP Wayne and sympathies to to his family.
  9. I have to agree with other posters about our lack of aerial presence in the final third. Long balls forwards, particularly from Forster, basically gave the ball away to Leicester. We havent had an aerial presence since Pelle left. Shane Long (bless him) had a bit of a leap on him but that was about all. We dont have the creativity to play balls through the middle so a big target man, to my mind, is a useful asset as is more physical prowess in mid field but doubt we have the cash to stump up the necessary transfer money.
  10. We are a less than average team with less than average players. Dont blame the Manager. He can only work within a limited transfer fund. Those responsible are those who spunked away the Van Dyke money
  11. Presumably this will be the day when our 2021 perfect FA Cup defensive record goes down the Swanny!!
  12. The Mail would probably like Katie Price as our Monarch given the profile they give her on their media stream
  13. As a long standing Saints fan, it is quite normal to ship loads of goals. Historically we have never had a decent defence. However we normally score a lot too but not so many this year!!
  14. Interesting that at the start of the season most Hammers fans were up in arms about David Moyes, the Board and the team generally. Bournemouth beat them 7-0 in a pre season friendly and there was a sluggish start to the League campaign. Look at them now chasing a Champions League spot!!
  15. Think we should dispense with shirts and each player should be contractually bound to have the team's kit design tattoed on their torsos. In addition platers will be covered in foul smelling grease to prevent opposing players getting too close to our players
  16. Mack An 'orse?
  17. Jim Ratcliffe also funds the Ineos Cycling team (ex Sky Cycling team) Didnt he get turned down for a big expansion of the property he owns (owned) on Beaulieu River?
  18. Apparently there were quite a few cruise passengers both from the Uk and abroad were amazed to see all the trains to London full of 'socca' people from a relatively small English city clad in red and white.
  19. I was a Remainer but no way can the Liberty Steel fiasco be blamed on Brexit
  20. Definitely over 50,000 Saints fans there Crowd was 75,000 and Carlisle only sold 17,000 tickets, which to be fair wasnt a bad effort as Sunday trains from the area were sparse and coaches had to leave about 5am to get to Wembley in time. If you looked round the stadium it seemed as though Saints fans had taken up the vast majority of the stadium and looking at the figures, Saints fan could have made up the 58,000 difference. There were somewhere in the region of 120 coaches which went up from the area, all that could be found on the day and the trains to Waterloo were rammed. Understand quite a few fans caught trains going east terminating at Victoria.
  21. Question is, what is JWP worth in today's market? He certainly ticks a lot of boxes for a relatively young central midfielder. Fingers and toes crossed he doesnt get injured.
  22. The goalkeeping reference is interesting. The only 'keepers who I recollect coming through the ranks and playing more than the odd game for Saints were Bob Charles in the 1960's and Gerry Gurr in the 70's. The club had hopes for Alan Blaney but he suffered from homesickness I think and went back to Ireland. Overall the club's development programme is arguably in the worst state it has been in my memory.
  23. I have always wondered how the best teams of today would fare against the best teams of yesteryear. The yesteryear team would struggle with the fitness and strength of modern players plus the different style of play now in use. A bit like the first ever home defeat for the England national team against foreign opposition in 1953 when the Hungarians, with a 'modern' style of play walloped England 6-3 and then repeated the experience later with a 7-1 win in Budapest. However you put our modern players up against players, say in the 1930's, on a mudheap, a heavy ball and boots and a very lenient Referee who wouldnt penalise a player for over robust play or an 'attack' on the GK (George Kirby style) and that may be a different story.
  24. Agree with comments on KWP I initially thought this was a poor, over priced, transfer. Just goes to show how little I know. Stuart Armstrong has got fitter and better as a consequence. JWP was another I thought was a bit limited but has now become an integral part of our team. I think most of us had negative views on Vestegaard only for him to prove us wrong on current form
