  1. Yep. Have used it and currently have one person it. The person posts so much drivel that it is a complete waste of time reading it and if I can save a few microseconds by not have to check who is posting and then scroll past it then I will. Of course I still see the odd post when it is quoted by someone else, but the posts don't really irritate me, I just want to avoid them where possible. If I ever see someone quoting something useful from that person then I'll probably unblock them.
  2. wot...no rickie LAMBert??
  3. It's a good job not everyone thought the same of Rickie Lambert. He spent most of his younger career "struggling" around L1 and L2. I'm not saying for a second that the 2 are comparable, but just because Antonio has been serving his time and strengthening his game in L1 doesn't mean he can't make the step up to the Championship. I think he would have made just as much of an impact with us as DeRidder did last season (OK...that's not exactly a glowing recommendation...but I'm sure you get my point)
  4. Can we just start high, and pay whatever it costs to get the "midfield general" we need in. Once we've seen how much that costs, then we can readjust our expectations on the other positions we need to address. The trouble is...I have no idea who fits the bill. I think we have to be looking at smashing our transfer record though - maybe as high as 10 mil??? (unless they are out of contract of course, and then we can just blow the 10 mil on his salary )
  5. I remember playing football with Billy. in fact half our team was made up of Billy, his brothers and his brother-in-law. All mad Rangers fans (except the brother in law who was Celtic!). Laziest player I ever saw - but would score 50 a season (we were very low level Sunday League (lol). they used to go in off all parts of his body. I was amazed any of them could even run let alone play football on a Sunday morning after the amount of alcohol consumed on the Saturday night (normally at Chandlers Ford Working Mens club). Lovely guy but with a very tough background. Really glad they were on my side! Some great memories. Very sad to hear of his passing and my condolences go to all of his family.
  6. It's a personal moment and something most people take for granted. The team walking onto the pitch at home to Doncaster, and Billy Sharp's first goal. It would be nothing to most people, but I had been telling my girls for years what it was like watching a "real" football match, and this was their first trip overseas and to a game. To see the look of shock on their faces when virtually the whole ground erupts was classic. Suffice to say they are now total converts!
  7. Is this where the master plan is finally revealed, and will we get the extra 2 years worth of transfer kitty up front seeing as we are 2 years ahead of the 5 year plan? I wonder how much was put aside in the original estimate. I am still of the opinion that the majority of names being mentioned aren't any better than what we already have. Although I would feel very sorry for any players who don't get a chance to prove themselves in the PL....we do have to hit the ground running and nobody is indispensible. My main fear is that we end up with a bloated squad and waste unnecessary funds on wages for players who don't have a hope of getting a game and who block the path for some of the talented youngsters to come through. At least we get an extra 2 subs in the PL, don't we?
  8. When Marcus bought us I was just happy that we had survived and enjoying the positive spin for a change. I thought 5 years to the Premier League would be tough and when we didn't get immediate promotion from L1 I did wonder whether we would lose momentum. This year I did think we would have a good season, but didn't really think we'd do better than an outside chance at the play-offs. I'm just so glad I mde the decision to come back to be part of the promotion season (although I was hoping for better from the Pompey & Reading games!). I just wish I could have stayed for an extra week and seen today's game. I hope that the fans and the chairman don't get on Nigel's back if we're not top 6 next season! LOL So proud to be a Saints fan today :)
  9. the whole team are going to be heroes. We'll be 4-0 up by half time and the whole of the 2nd half is going to be one big party. We deserve this and the team are going to make it happen!

    RM slot

Could play Cork on the right, with Schneiderlin Hammond and Lallana
  11. We've played good football for most of the season, yet we've never turned our superiority into goals...it's about time someone took a massive hammering ....and one from the record books as a reminder - Southampton 8 Coventry 2!!
  12. irrespective of the result of the game, the referee bottled it. If he gives the foul in that position on the pitch, then it's a sending off. Whether we would have gone on to win or lose the game we'll never know, but it certainly seemed to give the momentum of the game back to boro after we were dominating them.
  13. I'd rather see quality over quantity, along with some realism as to where we might finish. Assuming we DO go up (which is assumed in this thread) then anything above 18th is the target and I would call it a successful season if we were not in a relegation battle after Easter. I think a war chest of 10 - 15 million would be great and 3-5 signings max - preferably all in place for pre-season but that never seems to happen. 1 prestige name, 1 or 2 from the championship, and maybe 1 or 2 players from Europe to suprise us.
  14. I think we can sell out our games without having to bring in some additional Saints fans - they certainly aren't premiership players
  15. Although I think there are some excellent players in the Championship, I don't think we would want more than a couple, as I don't think we will make wholesale changes and I would hope we would be looking higher than the championship for them. It's going to be really interesting to see how much of a "warchest" we have actually got. So...saying that I'd be looking for a quality midfielder - Whittingham? and maybe someone with pace who would be happy to spend most of the season on the bench and get some use as an impact player... I don't think our current impact players are going to make the grade.
  16. It was a Bronze experience. We've now been to two, and Friday will be our third and final game. We have been asked in advance each time for names of people attending the games. When we have turned up for the games we haven't been asked for any identification, asked our names, or had our seat numbers ticked off from any list. The "Bronze experience" is marketing hype and definitely not worth the money. The only advantage we have found is that we can order our drinks for half time before the match starts to avoid a queue. There are NO food options - not even a bag of crisps. If we want to eat we have to go down to the concourse to buy something. After the game a player is meant to come to the hospitality suite and give an interview, but we left the Pompey game at about quarter past four (as the bar was closed) and a player hadn't arrived by that time. The only bonus for the girls was that after we left the ground we bumped into Billy Sharp and Jack Cork and the girls got their autographs. I don't regret paying for the tickets, as it gave me the peace of mind to book the flights over, knowing I had secured my tickets - but I can't think I would take that option under any other circumstance.
  17. Being a "converted" Aussie, I have to say some of "us" can be a little difficult to bear. However, compared to French, South African, most of Eastern Europe, Asia, the US, oh...and Scotland, I think we're not so bad
  18. If you're really looking to do anything for work, take a look at http://jobsearch.gov.au/harvesttrail/default.aspx Don't forget you are coming over here in our winter and some places will be bloody cold - but that also means you also have the option of working in the ski resorts as well if it takes your fancy. If you want the warmer weather head North. Don't forget distances are huge so good planning is essential if you want to do alot of travelling. Last minute internal flights can be cheap, but other people I've spoken to who have come over here for a holiday have booked some internal flights along with their main ticket and found that has worked out cheaper for them Beware of our customs officers. they can be a nightmare if you catch them on a bad day. If you want to take in some sport then you have the choice of AFL, NRL and Rugby Union. AFL stronghold is in Victoria if you really want to see a game with atmosphere (can't stand the game myself though). If you get the chance to catch a State of Origin game of Rugby League between NSW and Queensland do it - there is real passion on the field and (seeing as I don't like AFL) it's the nearest I've come to getting an atmosphere that matches the real football Oh...one final thing - sorry to have to tell you but EVERYTHING is bloody expensive over here if you are coming from the UK as it is shuch a sh1t exchange rate.
  19. Go for the jugular from the kick-off. 2-0 after 20 minutes, concede a goal early 2nd half to make for a nervous last half hour but score a 3rd at the death as Reading push forward to get the equaliser. Now then...if I'm right, who wants the lottery numbers for Saturday?
  20. we need a dynamic ball-winner...ie someone who is in their face all the time and can nick the ball off the toes or at least stop them breaking forwards. The amount of times we just let them run at us yesterday was frightening - and even worse, let them cut inside instead of pushing them out to the line.
  21. Was in one of the hospitality rooms after the game and talking to a Pompey official who said they have been told from the administrator that if they don't have a buyer by the end of the month it's all over. He also said that the remaining staff were called into a meeting yesterday and told to expect more cuts regardless. His best case scenario is they put them on a 3 day week (shame they couldn't do the same with the players! Sucks that they are still allowed to bring in loan players when they aren't paying their bills - especially when they influence the result like they did today.
  22. Football is big business. Sale is inevitable at some point, but if the aim is top half of the Premiership then there is far more money to be earned by staying with the club. Personally I don't care if we are sold - but I WOULD care who we were sold to if and when it happens. Until that time I'm just enjoying the ride....
  23. West Ham to lose because it's one step closer to guaranteed promotion (plus we are good enough to win the other games anyway - it just takes the pressure off sooner)
  24. Actually, I know it's being pedantic but it's a MAXIMUM (not minimum) of either 5 wins and 2 draws, or 6 wins
  25. Ok....I know this has been done before, but after last nights win I am now getting genuinely excited This is worst case scenario, and highly unlikely, but on the assumption that our goal difference won't get overhauled, then technically we are now only 17 points from promotion. If West Ham win all their games, then Reading will lose at least 1 as they have to play each other - and vice versa. Which means it's either West Ham on 95 and Reading on 91, or Reading on 94 and West Ham on 92. A Draw would mean West Ham on 93 and Reading on 92. I hope I've done the maths right This means worst case scenario we only need 17 points to get us to 92 and guarantee we go up
