I took plenty of positives (and negatives!) from today’s loss at Burnley but am I imagining it or does Angus not actually stop much. Is he really the best we have! I can remember thinking the same at the back end of last season too.

A decent percentage of players contracts are based on appearance, goals, clean sheets and the success of the club in general. Any player would rather be playing than not, and most have to feed their rather inflated egos, not easy when a well respected manager doesn't even want you in his 25.

I get your angle Charlie but don’t you think the reason he still has a current contract with us (at 24/25?) is that we keep offering him a better one than he can get elsewhere - if he ran it down and left on a free for a new permanent contract somewhere then would it be bigger? It’s not a case of us blocking or stopping him. Clubs don’t want to buy him without a look first and then don’t sufficiently like what they see to commit. I think saints have done right by the lad.

The thing I'm edgy about is Ralph investing a lot of time in him rather than others (time is finite, although my old boss thought it wasn't when it came to doing more work), he then has a half decent season (not exceptional but decent) and then he walks away on a free to another club. How would people feel if the club say to him, 'If you want back in to the fold then sign a one year extension on the same terms so we can work with you for a year and then review (sell or new contract), or go now' ?????

Horrible timing for Liverpool. They’d have been trying to sell him. Now they pay him for 12 months and then he leaves for nothing.

£9m or one year of him maybe being great and then he’s out of contract and will leave for nothing. I think Ralph’s limited time and attention could be used on more deserving and longer term projects
