I think he response to a journalist who asked for a quick word was the best. His response was "VELOCITY"

It was Tijuana Tim. Very sad. Puts into perspective the gulf in wealth todays players have as opposed to the relatively modest money he earnt. So many memories. The left foot pile driver against Villa that rebounded from the stauncheon. The four at Chelsea and Man U as well as the winner the previous year at Man u. There was better header of the ball before or since and who could ever forget the bulllit of a goal from outside the box againast Notts Forest.Yes with his head !! A true gentle giant and talented artist as well. His cartoons regularly featured in the echo. Sad end by all accounts. But not forgotten.

If Arsenal need a reminder not to take things for granted the result today will have them charged up for Tuesday. Draw I reckon

I really think that our brand of football will be too much for Sunderland and for once we will take some of our chances. 3-0 to us.

Yes I was directly in line with Bobby Stokes effort and as soon as he slighly mis hit it I knew it was in as Stepney had dived too soon.Sweely remember Rodrigues lifting the Cup and realising that this was a special special moment. Still have my prpgramme and ticket for that day !!

At least he does not speak in cliches as Adkins did

No money ,transfer embargoes etc. Not as massive as they would like to believe. Wonder how their fans will feel when the euphoria of being a fans club wears thin and they have to watch the youth each week

Just a thought. If there is a significant shortfall in the pledges what happens then? Liquidation or white knights riding to the rescue aka private investors such as Portpin?

I really see this game as a marker of style over substance. West Ham have always traditionally wanted to play flowing football but under Big Fat Sam have found a way to get results by percentages. (Put enough balls in the box and you will score) I feel that West Hams position in the league has flattered them for most of the season. Their home form is the only reason they are so high. Good teams though can easoily stop a route one approach by blocking out the source which is what I expect Schneiderlin, Davies and Cork to do next week. Equally we need to get down the flanks quickly and mix up our high pressing game with pace running at defenders. If we do that West Ham will not live with us. Our confidence is so high that I predict at least three or more goals for us.

Some teams will have the players to stifle our high line and aggressive defending from the front. Those teams with quick counter attacking players or those that play hoofball are more likely to succeed against us. Having said that we have started to eliminate the individual errors that have cost us points, although Hoiveld still manged to slip on Saturday !! Defensively Reading are shambolic and with our pressing game I can see them making many mistakes to allow to score two or more. I think this game will demonstarte that we can not only beat the big boys but also show that we can claim victories against the basement boys as well, whoever, is in charge for the opposition. In any event we know that Reading have to come at us so that should play into our hands.

Is there any team you dislike more than Pompey?

Very simply I do not believe Boruc. He may have got abuse for playing badly which initiated the bottle throwing incident. To me this all a smoke screen to vindicate his actions at the time. To say he was hurled racist abuse five months after the incident !! Cmon

Apparently the new Pope will eliminate all paedophile Priests. Permit marriage for the Clergy.Make contraception compulsory for all Catholics and distribute all the wealth hoarded by the Vatican over the years to the poor. Unfortunately he might be accussed of taking Christianity too far !!

How easy it is to buy an assault rifle legally in the US...
Goalie66 replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Lounge
Having lived in America gun culture is ingrained as part of Americam life. Constitutional rights and so on. Half of my staff owned guns nornally kept in the glove box of a car. Very scary. Most never use them but feel safer because of them. However, the red necks and latter day cowboys often have semi and full automatics that are sold as hunting weapons.Yeh right. Very sporting to offload 60 rounds at some poor Bambi and call that sport!! Politicians are just too afraid to make federal legislation that bans automatics and so called hunting weapons beacuse the NRA is powerful. Yet we get massacres, spontaneous outrage and righteous indignation. In the meantime thousands die each year from shootings that are not sensational but just mundane. Only un the US are drive by shootings commonplace. Having said that I was at Disneyland Paris and at the entrance were at 5 Police officers with submachine guns. Whjat a welcome.Even in Florida and LA you would nt see such an agressively armed Police. The only answer is is gun control to eliminate the majority of killings by the gun. The Hungefords the Norways and the Nutters will never be eliminited but it could be made dam difficult for them -

And another £100 to have their tyres puyt back on -
Interesting I notice that Police often use cameras around the ground.Does that they must be banned for the same "health and safety" issues? We all know that this an attempt for Cortese to control the media so that emabarassing press from sacking Adkins can be "contained". This must be close to infringement of democratic rights of the press. We might not like what they print but they have to right to do so ,nevertheless.

Yes you are right.Ironically you started a thread in the Lounge that has watched our near neighbours suffer the excesses of serial private owners and the consequences of their gross mismanagement. In any business it is imporatnt that there are checks and balances. There is none with a dictatator at the helm. History tells us that Dictators invariably become totally paranoid because they are unable to listen. Us fans are in a marriage with no divorce but that should not prevent us venting our frustration as "customers". Even if the Dictator will not listen we all have the right to vent our disgust at the way Adkins was treated.

Gutted by what a strike for their equaliser

I agree that Davis is not Premier League quality despite the fact that he can be a good shop stopper. On Saturday his positioning for their goal was appaling and the reason why he flapped at the centre. If you noticed he was in the centre of the goal and had not covered his near post. If he had covered his near post he would have narrowed the angles for the centre and probably would have be able to intercept it quite easily. Unfortunately there appears to be a dearth of "box commanding "keepers. Freidel is head and shoulders above many and would love to see him between the sticks.
