he showed a fair bit of inexperience in some situations last season yes and the strikers did manage to get away from him at crucial moments but he can improve that aspect of his game and learn from it. Having a central defender as his new manager won't hurt and hopefully he can learn from one more season of VVD.
Same with a left back if Bertrand does go.
Would make a change to sign someone before we let a player leave, just for a change, Austin for Pelle (supposedly) excluded.
just playing devils advocate who is to say that with a regular run in the side they haven't ?
I don't think that statement is giving the new manager much credit either to be honest. If he doesn't think one or both are up to it is he really just going to keep his mouth shut and hope for the best ?
I really cant see the club letting VVD and Bertrand go with both under long contracts UNLESS we have a very high calibre left back lined up to replace him.
Anyway Ralph told us nobody was leaving so its all tosh
Take a look at his coaching record and the calibre of clubs he's been at and done nothing even remotely successful. He must have thought he was dreaming when a Prem team who had just finished 6th came calling.
It does appear to be once again very poor planning. I really thought that the reason they took so long to decide on Puel was because of behind the scenes work getting a new man lined up and ready to announce within a day or so of him going. To read from their trusted journalists that we are in shortlist and interview mode is disappointing. If the first one or two choices turn it down, or have done already, we are struggling and for a top ten Premier League side thats pathetic.
The latest story in the Echo which is obviously fed by the club is unusual for Saints, they dont tend to be this open. I would suspect from that as some have suggested the two named are a smokescreen for the third mystery man.
Making these two so public just isnt the way the club do things.
If Tuchel has ruled himself out he obviously hasnt heard how this thing works. You come to Southampton for a year or two, do your apprenticeship in the Premier League then move to a bigger club !
