Can't we just pretend we sold Virgil for £55m and signed this bloke on a free? I'd feel a lot happier about that.
-
The direction we were heading at the end of the season, we may well have been. Wasn't it 6 blanks in his last 7 home games or something?
-
I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt in spite of my reservations but Jesus, did we REALLY spend £19m on a bloke who has scored 5 goals against a bunch of 'équipe de pub'.

I don't get this borderline masochistic obsession with our rivals being responsible for our suffering. Pompey didn't send us down, we were out of the relegation zone with 2 games left. Pompey didn't stop us winning the League, Reading edged it and if anything we threw it away losing to them and throwing away a 1-0 lead at Boro. Bournemouth wont send us down. Highly likely we we still be in it (mathematically) whatever the result. We probably wont win, we will probably go down and they will probably gloat. C'est la vie.

It's only his sixth league goal, which is nothing really that spectacular for almost a full season of regular football. True, I'd rather have him than Long or Carrillo but I'd say that about 99% of strikers out there. He needed a fresh start and I'm glad to see he is having a respectable season at West Brom.

'99 was the Great Escape. What the current lot are doing is willfully digging into a POW camp and waving their kn*b and boll*cks at the guard with the machine gun.

I've always maintained that the war on drugs is unwinnable. If we legalise everything (for over 18s) we can at least control the source and quality of the drugs. We could also use the tax generated to fund a considerable number of Police, PCSO and rehab programmes for the worst affected. I've seen similar arguments shouted down before, normally by some hysterical mother who doesn't want her child taking drugs and is naive enough to think the law (barely enforced my a skeleton Police force) is enough to stop them.

I'd imagine Abbott is absolutely appalled by the 12,374 murders on the streets of London this week.

So the Russians want access to our evidence so that they can launch an investigation into themselves, which definitely wont be totally corrupt and find the Russian government completely innocent on all charges. Nothing at all to do with: a) Trying to save face by publicly giving the appearance of co-operation. b) Trying to find out the sources of our intelligence, which are probably more accurate and in depth than what some guy reckons on twitter.

Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES
Lighthouse replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
It's odd how some of the things I would previously have considered satire are now transpiring in real life. A vegan terrorist going on a killing spree because her YouTube blogs keep getting taken down; it's like a Daily Mash article. -
Agree. Let's stop sending our children to these namby pamby academy schools to learn 'emotional studies' and 'communication technology'. Get them off the breast milk and down the lead mines FFS!

Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES
Lighthouse replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
Just a gut instinct but this doesn't really 'feel' like a terrorist attack. A lone woman, obscure location, low number of casualties, turned the gun on herself... doesn't fit the usual profile. -
Going to vote Clasie, just to make a point. I want to embarrass this lot. A shambolic lack of desire and bottle, you can't JUST blame the manager when there've been three of them.
-
Just for sh*ts and giggles. Stephens - Cranie - That academy defender, who sort of looked alright for a brief period last year but clearly isn't a 1st choice PL player Austin - Pahars - If only he'd stayed fit, we might not be in this mess. Cedric - Kenton - He's got good pace but I'm not sure what else he does. Carrillo - Bernard - Why in the name of f**king f**k did we sign him?! Tadic - Lundekvam - He's been good for a few seasons, so why has he absolutely bottled it now. Hoedt - Davenport - We quite obviously needed an experienced CB, instead we got this guy. Lemina - Squashie - Is he a battling midfield dynamo or a headless chicken? Not sure.

Interesting (It was a genuine question BTW). When I lived in Bristol, St Paul's was notorious for stabbings among the Somali gangs. Hopefully it's not on the rise.

San Diego also has Sea World, depends on their views on the whole Blackfish thing TBH.

1. There isn't a toxic atmosphere at St Mary's. If anything it's apathetic and resigned. 2. Most of the blocks will remain closed off to save costs as they are expecting low interest in this match. 3. I don't want to go, the standard will be far worse than an U23s game, which I also wouldn't choose to watch.

San Diego, 100%. Brilliant city. My girlfriend regularly visits LA regularly with work. You can do the whole Venice Beach, Hollywood Hills bit but most of LA's a dump.

What a daft conclusion to draw from such a tiny data sample. In 2 cities of over 8,000,000 people, there were 4 more murders in London in February and 1 more in March. Any evidence to support the theory that the increase is down to inter-racial violence?
-
That's exactly what we did do with Stephens. What are you suggesting, we give a slightly worse U23 CB a run out and hope that works better. People cry out for the youth team to be given a chance because they will try and can't possibly be worse than the first team. What we have now is Martin Cranie 2.0.

On another note, what an embarrassment Arsenal's support is. Saints fans are calling each other snowflakes for not wanting to watch the last 2 years of abysmal football and yet Arsenal fans apparently think 6th in the League, a cup final and a Europa League QF is so far beneath them they're not even turning up.
-
West Ham were without Carroll and Hernandez and Antonio hobbled off after 7 minutes but still put 3 past us by half time. This team isn't even trying, I really don't think we've got any straws to clutch. Even if Palace and Udders lose ALL their remaining games, I still think we will finish behind them.

Would you encourage a grand-child still to be a Saints fan
Lighthouse replied to OldNick's topic in The Saints
I want to say yes. I've had some amazing times as a Saints fan, both at home and away and met some great people as far away as Dubai and Latvia. I can deal with the ups and downs, relegation and promotion. Where I struggle is losing to big clubs and having to listen to their smug, cocky fans. Nothing more irritating than listening to some Bristolian kn*bhead gloating about how his team in Manchester beat mine because a Chinese banker spent the cost of a Eurofighter Typhoon on some Portuguese midfielder with a sh*t haircut and history of sex offenses. That's the worst thing, the whole soulless feel of the place. That's all we are now, an investment for a banker to keep his money away from the Chinese government. I don't have the heart to go to games anymore and I'm not sure I'd want to inflict the same on my children/grandchildren. That said, you can spend over £50 watching Miley Cyrus miming for a couple of hours, so someone's going to con them out of their money eventually. -
I'd go 4-3-3. Sims and Tadic playing off Gabbi. Hoj, Lem and Rom in the middle.
-
That's like saying Cedric has been awful recently, so we were wrong to get rid of Martina. 5 League goals, whoop-de-doo.
