CB Fry?

Paul Telfer and Jermaine Wright surely. 😉 Alan Ball maybe? Though I never saw him play live, Keegan must be right up there. Even better for the Saints link.

Disappointing but not unexpected. At 1-1, thought we looked good, not sure about the penalty, seemed very soft but there was contact. The Adams chance was critical, that goes in and we could've sneaked it, but it was not to be. Thought Long and A. Armstrong did a very good job and we lost something when they went off. Personally would've brought Adams on for Long and left AA on as he was getting into the right places. Really not sure who our best centre Def is alongside Sali?

Absolutely woeful, glad tickets didn't reach general sale as would've gone. Very disappointing after the great recent run. Oh well, onto the next game.
-
True enough, forgot in my drunkenness last night that he is also a d*ck. I'll remove that from my list. Such a shame as it's a great song and cover version.

Poison-Look what the cat dragged in Alleycat Scratch-Cats got your tongue More importantly, surely Saints should be in Yellow and Blue regardless of being at home?

Only just seen the highlights...not much more to say, being a Saints fan means accepting the lows and making the most of the highs. We're all of a sudden in an unexpected high (for the fans, we've had a few trailers over the last year's) so we need to make the most of this and drive this team on. That is the key, we're a real team. Really feel that we're now a full Saints package. FA cup win with Armstrong scoring a brace, that's my prediction.

The Minsk Memorial Thread (and continuation of his work)
CylonKing replied to Minsk's topic in The Saints
Awful news about a Saints Forever stalwart. Sincere condolences to his family. So sad! -
Some old school names on here bringing back memories. We always used to drive down to Southampton on a Saturday morning from Nottingham and go to Goblets for a burger and pint before the match. Now we stay over on a Friday usually and used to go to the Rockstone for one of their delicious burgers. Shame its changed hands again. Went there before the Villa match and was nice enough but not as good as pre COVID times. Decent beer though. Used to love The Dungeon on a Saturday night. Really miss it. Now enjoy Black Phoenix when in Southampton more than anywhere else, too far for pre-match though.

Finger in the air, I predict we'll get some more points this season. ☝️🤞

Probably banked it for next time we play them and been satisfied in a good job well done! 😁

Just seen the highlights, clearly offside for Man City goal. The offside players are interfering with play by drawing attention to themselves, moving towards the ball then stopping. If trophies are to be won by cheating the rules, I'd rather stay as we are to be frank. When we do achieve something, it has to be in the right spirit. If Pep thinks that managing is about thinking your way round the rules, that is not managing, it is a mockery.

We went through a phase of missing loads and couldn't remember if JWP was a culprit or not. Think he may have improved somewhat! We have been blessed (as has been mentioned many times over the years) with MLT, Beattie and SRL for our penalties.
-
To be fair, when I first saw it on the highlights, that is what I thought. But then you realise it's not been deflected, just a very good free kick. Better than MLT? Has JWP missed a penalty yet?

Utter rubbish, Broja is just a new Ormerod, running around hoping to score one off his arse every so often. There is no way he would improve our squad at all. A complete waste of money. We should be looking elsewhere for a new player, not a chance that Broja is right for us. Psst, that's knocked them off of the scent, why are we bigging up a player we want to buy, everyone knows all transfers are done via club web forums these days, he's shocking 😉 Just to clarify, Ormerod is a club legend in my eyes who never scored one off of his arse but was a great foil for Beattie. Come on you Saints! Love supporting this club. 😁

Don't think Valery could do anything about that, nothing intentional, just heading to the area of the ball and an innocent coming together that Obafemi then made the most of. Definite foul but very harsh yellow in my opinion. But, it is the refs opinion that only really matters. Just pleased to be in the hat. Hope we can back this up with a decent win against Brentford. So far, it's been a pretty good festive period for Saints.
-
Seriously thought that was it when Swansea took the lead, credit to the team though, great come back and good to progress. As a team, think we're showing some damn good spirit in the last few matches.
-
Great performance up to the red, the first yellow warranted but the second is a farce. Foul, yes but not a second yellow.

"Do you continue to put yourself through the physical pain of pushing a shattered joint, adding to the mental toil of doing so for three years with no reward? Or finally call it a day and throw away any lingering chance, however small, of resurrecting your career with the club you love?" So sad for Sam, get your coaching badges, we're bound to need a new manager once Ralph has got us into the top 8 and a cup final. Forever Saint.
-
Really sad news, such a shame. The pictures of Sam training alone are quite the opposite of what we normally see week in week out and are startlingly moving. Sure to get a standing ovation every time at St Marys. Wish him all the best for the future. Once a Saint, always a Saint.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Not going to criticise as that was an excellent point in the circumstances, especially after the West Ham win. Like having Perraud on the left and KWP on the right, thought we had more balance overall. A. Armstrong was great both offensively and covering at the back. Thought Redmond was also good with the defensive duties when he came on. The last 10 minutes were a nightmare to watch in terms of stress, but very happy with the point as we nearly always get nothing from Spurts.

Have read lots of opinions on here over the years, post occasionally when something takes my fancy or if I'm feeling funny (eeeh, the mother-in-law!, Actually the mother-in-law jokes are rubbish. My mother-in-law is ace!) Today highlights why it's the best being a Saints fan...and more controversially, why Ralph is the best manager for us right now. We NEVER beat West Ham, never, but when we do, it means something to us. Ralph is not the best manager but he is the right manager for us. He understands the fans, he understands the club and is one of us, I feel he knows the history, the ups and downs and wants to be a part of that. I personally have not felt a connection with the club/manager since Ronald, we are a great club and feel we are the best. Sometimes, it's not about winning everything, sometimes it's about living and enjoying...and do I enjoy Southampton and Southampton FC! Southerners, Southerners, Southerners...from a guy in the Midlands (orig. Winchester). Stay safe folks.

Stuart's hair was a bit lacklustre tonight I thought.

So, back at the hotel after what can only be described as a great night (thank you Rockstone & Black Phoenix). First half was great, the best we've played that I can remember seeing us since the Promotion seasons. 2nd half was tighter but to be honest, Villa never looked like scoring. The big problem I have is the faff with throw ins, corners and free kicks. We....are....so....slow....at....taking....yawn.... I've bored myself now. Just hurry it up. Once they are in position, you are unlikely to score. Get on with it. Rather 2-0 than watching you lot handing a ball back and forth to build up 7 mins of injury time. Anyway, it's a win and it was FANTASTIC to be back at St Mary's again...and the brass band at the front of the stadium and along the pitch were brilliant. 😁 P.S. Rom was superb, a few loose passes but a proper midfield performance for the team. 🌟
