  1. It was common knowledge about Higgins in the early 90's. I believe that someone put a brick through his window. After Saints ushered him out the door, he was running coaching classes for young boys in Riverside Park.
  2. To be fair, that's the case with most managerial appointments.
  3. Jackett has gone.
  4. Quite like Greggs vegan "steak" bakes. Can't really tell them from the original. The vegan sausage rolls however are definitely inferior. Meat is very inefficient way of producing calories. To produce 1 calorie of beef requires 25 calories of feed. Even the most efficient (chicken) requires 9 calories.
  5. Can't see why they're complaining about the tabloid press. The Mail only devoted 25 pages to the story in today's edition.
  6. Hope she did the ironing before she left.
  7. Yeah, all the fuss over Meghan's alleged bullying with the Palace announcing an enquiry. No enquiry into Andy's taste for young girls.

You said "How has Hancock acted unlawfully there" which implies that you think that he didn't. So, as head of the department, did he act unlawfully? If a private company breaks the law, the managing director ends up in court and can be convicted. How is this different?

He acted unlawfully because a High Court Judge said so and he was certainly friends with Hancock and was awarded the contract by his department without going out to tender. The company is now under investigation by the MHRA for concerns about hygiene and safety.

A simple question. If Hancock was ruled to have acted unlawfully by giving a large contract to one of his mates who had no experience, why isn't he hauled into court? If I drive through Southampton at 70mph, I'm acting unlawfully and would end up before the magistrates.. Why are ministers let off?
  12. "I Think You'll Find It's More Complicated Than That" by Ben Goldacre. The author is a GP and also does research in epidemiology. He looks at the many media articles regarding health of the "A daily cup of coffee halves your life expectancy" type and drills down to the data behind them. A lot of them turn out to be misleading even from the so-called quality end of the media. Government is also often at fault in the way that they present statistics. I found it fascinating, and it changes the way that you interpret these reports.
  13. The problem with Amazon is that they're so bloody efficient. You can order something late afternoon and it'll be there the next day so, if you're in a hurry, they are the best. I prefer to shop locally but sometimes they are the best option. I've got a relative who delivers for them as part of their Flex scheme. You won't get rich but it's not too bad. As long as you turn up on time, you get paid even if, as has happened, there's a problem at the depot and they've can't give you your parcels.

Regarding holidays, I was commenting on the mixed messages not whether the policy was good or bad. You have evidence to the contrary regarding fat people? I mean proper evidence. If not then it's just your opinion with no factual basis.

It's opinion not fact. I don't think that the "loads" of people that you claim to have met is a statistically representative sample from our 60 million plus population..

How do you know that it's "a very small amount of cases" and "The vast majority use metabolism and genes as excuses" ?

Not quite that simple. Metabolism plays a part. I've always been skinny, I can eat what I want and not put on any weight. I just burn it off. Mrs ecuk268 used to say that it was like sleeping with a radiator (and about as exciting). About 10 years ago my weight suddenly started going up. Turned out that my thyroid had packed up and caused the metabolic rate to fall. So food wasn't getting converted to energy but was laid down as fat. The specialist I saw explained that people have different metabolic rates so that some are much more efficient at converting food to energy than others.

With millions of people looking to take a holiday, shouldn't there be a policy or at least some clear guidance?

Yesterday was an interesting time for anyone contemplating a holiday this year. In the morning on Radio 4 Grant Shapps told us that nobody should be booking holidays either domestically or internationally. A few hours later we had Matt Hancock saying that he'd booked his in Cornwall. Then at lunchtime a No. 10 spokesman said that booking was "a choice for individuals" to be followed by Boris at 5pm "just too early" to do anything. Nothing like a clear coherent policy is there?

Got my first jab today. Very well organised, in and out in about 15 minutes. Steady stream of people, probably doing about 1 every 2 or 3 minutes. Just shows what happens when you let the NHS get on with it rather than outsourcing it to some Tory MP's window cleaner.
