This a an appalling story of police negligence, lies and reluctance to take action. They have finally admitted their mistakes but no officer has been disciplined and some have been promoted. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-59593887

Possibly related to the Farkarwe tribe who had no sense of direction. When anyone met them, they said "We're the Farkarwe"

Shilton lived in Chilworth next door to my old boss. Luke Shaw stayed with a family in Dibden. Rhadi Jaidi lived just off The Avenue.

Also, the minister involved had "accidentally" deleted his WhatsApp messages relating to the contracts. As Annelise Dodds said: "The 21st century equivalent of 'The dog ate my homework'" -

When you see that Chris (Failing) Grayling earns £110k a year for 7 hours a week as adviser to Hutchinson Ports, it makes you wonder why. This was the guy who didn't seem to realise that ferry companies actually had to have ships. -

They wheeled out a senior minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, on Sky News this morning who said he "felt no shame" in voting for the amendment and even suggested that the standards commissioner should resign. Those who voted for the amendment included 22 Tories who were either already under investigation or had been ruled against by the commissioner. A couple of hours later and the big u-turn. Total shambles. -
The Lords amendment was to legally compel them to improve their sewage systems and to demonstrate progressive reductions. So it follows that it would have required them to make improvements in infrastructure rather than just let them carry on as they are.
-
No, but anyone with half a brain would realise that to reduce the amount of undiluted crap that they dump in the rivers, they would need to spend more on infrastructure rather than giving it away as dividends.
-
If it needs addressing then the Government should address it, not wash their hands of it by throwing out the Lords amendment.
-
Indeed, but now that the Tories could do something, they're happy to see crap pouring into our rivers and sea. Perhaps it's Pritti Patel's wheeze to discourage the Channel crossers.

Since privatization, the water companies have paid out £57bn to shareholders, nearly half of the amount that they have spent on infrastructure. They've also amassed £48bn of debt which is costing them £1.3bn in interest each year. Scottish Water, which is publicly owned invested 35% more per head in infrastructure than the private companies whilst charging customers 14% less. It doesn't pay dividends A report from Greenwich University concludes that the private companies capital expenditure is covered by revenue from user charges. The borrowing is to cover dividend payments.

Also by 22 Tory MPs who voted for the amendment.

Remember a story told by George Best. When he joined Man U he could only use his right foot. Matt Busby told him that, if he ever wanted to be top player, he needed to be two-footed. So he spent hours and hours kicking ball against a wall and and controlling it with his left foot. In the end he reckoned that he was better with his left foot than with his right.

The entire population of P*mpey?

Javid was put on the spot by a journalist who asked, in light of Javid's asking people to wear masks in crowded places, why weren't Tory MPs wearing them. He conceded that it was a good question. Apparently, today the majority were masked. Obviously orders from above.

It's all going rather well: Pre-Brexit: An article from Express.co.uk, published on March 21, 2017, reads: “Idea that farming will collapse after Brexit is absurd.” Post-Brexit: Another headline from Express.co.uk published on June 22, 2021, reads: “Farming disaster: Brexiteer admits many farmers will go out of business due to EU exit.” Pre-Brexit: An Express.co.uk headline from 2016 read: “More reason to leave: Brexit Britain to take back control of its fishing waters.” Post-Brexit: An Express.co.uk headline from March 2021 reads: “We didn’t vote for this! Fishing collapse as UK firms go bust and exporters flee to EU.” Pre-Brexit: An Express.co.uk headline from October 2016 reads: “Cheaper food after EU exit: Consumer boost as experts now say that prices will come down.” Post-Brexit: Another Express.co.uk headline from March 2021 reads: “Food shop alert as your supermarket bill set to soar due to EU red tape.”

Apparently the Saudi Public Investment Fund will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club. The head of the PIF is a certain Sheikh Mohammed Bin Salman who, co-incidentally also happens to run Saudi Arabia.
