According to that link Terry Paine made 815 appearances in the 17 years between 1957 - 1974, which works out an average of 47 appearances a season!! Christ that's impressive, especially with a few England appearances on top of that. edit: I know most fans probably know this fact, and I'm well aware Paine is a saints legend, I'd just never really took the time to read the statistics about him.

If Shaw is to truly become a top player then he needs to get some major practice in crossing, particulary the ability to bend a ball around a player instead of having to beat him first. Too often his crosses are soft floaty balls into the box which most keepers happily claim all day long. Despite his shocking ability to defend Fox had one hell of a cross on him, that's the sort of delivery we miss.

Same story we've seen so many times this season, dominate the first half but let down by errors and lack of depth in the squad. Gazza is just doing his job, but he simply is not good enough for this level. How anyone on here can say otherwise is beyond me, not brave enough for the third and in no mans land for the fourth. Fairly decent goals are quite often hyped up too much, there was nothing Maradona-esque about tht at all. The only goal I've seen come close to Maradona was by Leo Messi against Getafe, in fact I even prefer it to the one scored by the fat Argie ******. Look how crazy the media went for Rooneys volley at the weekend, which we've seen Beattie do against Sunderland and Chelsea, even skate Matt Taylor done the same once, yet people think it's better than Beckham's legendary goal against Wimbledon. Not even close IMO.

Still annoyed yes. To the point i'm seriously thinking about not renewing my ST next year. Might sound a little OTT, but if the aim of our manager is to disregard all the cup competitions, and aim for a 7th -10th place finish each year then really can't be arsed. We'll never finish top 6 without serious investment, so the cups are the only thing a club of our size can realistically aim for.
