St Marco Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 As most people had already voted on the New Manager Poll thread would be difficult to gauge if fans would be happy with his return or not. So maybe the nice mods could turn this one into a poll Would you be happy if Nigel Pearson was appointed Southampton manager? Yes or No would not be happy I vote, yes i would be happy

Thedelldays Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 (edited) Is that a 'no' because he saved us last year and got Leicester promoted? or is it a no just to be different? he has a good thing going on at leicester..sometimes the right person at the right club and all that.. I just dont think he is that great..certainly not good enough to warrent the messiah status on here.. many managers who would get laughed at have won league 1...granted he did a good job getting leicester up but lets see...if he is as good as many on here would believe then leicester will be serious contenders for the playoffs at the end of the season now he is on a more level playing field etc...many worse managers have done that. also, i just dont think he would achieve what he did at leicester with us and would be a let down for all concerned. for his sake, i hope he continues his football manager education at leicester and see how he goes..whether he is destined for "greatness" remains to be seen Edited 12 July, 2009 by Thedelldays

westofshannonsaint Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 why the need for another thread? Yes I would love to see NP back. Knows our Squad and more importantly knows what is needed to win League one. a question to those who think keeping us up when he was here was not an achievement - Would you have preferred to keep Dodd and Gormless, or do you recognise that the team was pretty much f*cked when he arrived? alot of people are comparing NP's record to Wotte's, do you think Wotte would have done as well if he came into the club cold instead of pearson? westofshannonsaint Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 I just dont think he is that great..certainly not good enough to warrent the messiah status on here.. to be fair I don't think he has messiah status, lets leave that to WGS for the time being. I do think he is one of the preferred realistic options (e.g. Tony Adams/Dennis Wise/Coleman) I am not a fan of the DOF position (because I don't really understand the role) but I think NP as manager & WGS/KK as DOF would be excellent. St Marco Posted 12 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 12 July, 2009 why the need for another thread? Because he was added to the Poll after like 4000 people had already voted. The other thread is a speculation thread i.e someone reported he might be appointed. This thread is just a poll to see if people would be in general happy for him to return i.e if ML decided to appoint him would people see that as good or bad. By the looks of things most people would see it as a good appointment.
eelpie Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 Any manager who takes us on with our current squad is going to find it tough going. And it will take time to get a rebuilt squad up to speed. So Pearson back would not get any better a start than anyone else. And he would soon lose his Messiah status. But he is a sound manager who kicks butts and that is what we need,
westofshannonsaint Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 Because he was added to the Poll after like 4000 people had already voted. I dont think the majority would vote for NP over WGS or KK but would still be happy with his appointment. The other thread is a speculation thread i.e someone reported he might be appointed. This thread is just a poll to see if people would be in general happy for him to return i.e if ML decided to appoint him would people see that as good or bad. By the looks of things most people would see it as a good appointment If really needed a poll could have been added to that thread, but reading both threads yes I think most would be happy if NP was appointed appointment. and other than the poll this would still be a speculation thread. A Nut Can Cut You Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 It seems obvious it would be about 70/30 in favour at least. If the options were "I can live with it" and "I can't live with it", it would be 95/5. Especially after proving his ability in getting Leicester promoted, Pearson would be welcomed with open arms by the great majority with only a few desperados sniping from the distance, not to forget one special heartbroken fan standing in the rain in his Hoddle pyjamas. I don't subscribe to a Pearson Is God cult, his record at SFC was nothing special, but results alone are not the right way to measure the impression he made during his short firefighting tenure. He never had the chance to actually do the job before he was replaced. 13-15 games after taking over late in the season is hardly enough to judge a manager on results anyway, but I think the positive impact Pearson had on the club was undeniable. That is why Wotte is an unsuitable comparison. Wotte was part of the Lowe-Wilde hamsterplan that destroyed the feelgood factor. Wotte might have had roughly the same record as Pearson, but his removal was a question of when, not if. There was no future with Wotte, he was really just a caretaker. If he was ever going to manage SFC, it had to happen a year ago, but instead he was appointed in a different role. As long as it's not some lower league Swiss Poortvliet no one has ever heard of, or Tony Adams, it'll be, if not roses, at least something that doesn't make people sick. VectisSaint Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 What, because I posted a fact  But also forget about the fact that when it mattered, after 46 games, not 45 he saved us, and that following the appalling mess that Burley, then D& G got us into. NP is not the Messiah, but is certainly one of the bst young managers around and would be a good choice (though there are some others out there, Cotterill for instance).
