Fan The Flames Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Great positive club, looking forward to the challenge. Loads of agents calling him, people must remember there is a credit crunch on. ML has a structured plan, points handicap to get over. SFC has everything apart from a good team, AP wants to maximise the academy. Teams need core leaders that can dig out of trouble and SFC lacked this last season, AP wants to introduce this. Group trained well today. Promotion still a possibility despite the -10, aims to get to zero points in 5 games, hopefully less.

Wildgoose Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Great to hear. I am starting to think everything he has done and faced in his career until now has prepared him to take on a club needing to be rebuilt from the foundations. Step forward ML and Saints. This could be a totally inspired choice!

Chez Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Loads of agents calling him they know we have money and want a taste of it. I'd hope that Pardew knows who he wants already and goes to them not the other way round.
RonManager Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 If he has spent his time wisely whilst he has been out of the game then hopefully he will be well up to speed in terms of a player wish-list. Seeing as there is something of the football 'obsessive' about him IMO (not lessened by what I have read from Mr Pilchard today), I reckon that will be the case. I am really looking forward to the Hearts game on Saturday to see the changes.

Sounds worryingly familiar Are you sure it was AP and not RL that was on Still at least he possibly has a plan to put right the one missing ingredient, unlike the other fella did. scotty Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 I heard the interview out in the van, was well impressed, AP sounded pretty relaxed and confident. He was pressing the credit crunch point pretty hard tho;)

trousers Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 Loads of agents calling him Hmmm....Here's hoping he politely ignores these calls and goes for the players that their current clubs don't want them to leave. There's a very good reason why agents have a glut of average players on their books.

Having a contract does not stop agents touting their players I would have thought but I cannot see Terry or Rooney joining us at the moment
John B Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 Or at least make sure we don't get shafted as far as unrealistic transfer fess go. Yes exactly which got us in the situation we find ourselves now paying excessive wages on average players
aqbadger Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 I think he maybe trying to let potential players and agents know that he does not have a blank cheque book Hmm maybe, but it is obvious that ML is going to have to put a few quid on the table if he wants to get us out of this league. Just seemed odd that he has brought this up

saint1977 Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 I think he maybe trying to let potential players and agents know that he does not have a blank cheque book Also, he and Markus don't want to pay inflated money to average/unproven players and their spiv agents. You only get the better money by performing and getting Saints back up the leagues which is how it should be. I suspect what Pardew also means is that there are lot more semi-decent free transfers available than past years as squads recede at most clubs so players are going to have to be more realistic in their wage demands. Sturrock said something similar the other week and agents know Plymouth have had new investment.

Just seemed odd that he has brought this up I think ML will but Pardew is just warning agents that we won't be paying £10k a week for any old tat or unproven players. The bubble has burst a bit outside of the PL.

Don't think he would have been tinking about players to take for a L1 team, think he is going to be really good but plase dont judge him on 1 week mate, hopefully he can make an impact in time for the start of the season, but those players have got some work to do.
