I don't think the Star is to be taken too seriously though this player was mentioned on another thread, he would certainly be a good signing for us.

Why do you think he would be a good signing for us?

I know he is reputed to be very fast and he scored a lot of goals in the Irish League, more than 3 years ago!

He is 24 years old (so not very young) and stands at only 5' 7" (so certainly not tall).

He has been at Sunderland for 3 years, in which time he has made 5 starts and 14 sub appearances scoring a grand total of 0 goals.

For the first 5 months of last season he was on loan at Dundee Utd, where he made 8 starts and 5 sub appearances scoring just the once.

He then spent the second half of the season on loan at Blackpool, making 11 starts and 1 sub appearance and scored 0 goals.

So a grand total in English and Scottish leagues of:

24 starts - 20 sub appearances - 1 goal

Nothing there to get me very excited I'm afraid (although slightly better stats than Pulis Jnr). However, if AP does bring him in he wll have my full support.

It sounds like he's playing out of position as a striker.

If he's quick he may be better on the wing.

Yeah i saw that ever reliable source of 100% factual information (Wiki :---) ) had him as a striker/Winger.

Alought I can understand where sussex is coming from. I thought GB was goign to be brilliant for us - but seems he tried that trick about a million times more then he should have :)

Wikipedia (not reliable I know) says he's 5'10" and calls him a winger/forward. Sounds as if he started as a winger but had a successful season or two as a striker at Cork. If the rumour is true maybe Pardew sees him as a sort of generic forward ...playing on the wing til/unless McLaggon or Holmes displace him , and as back up to Paterson and Saga alongside Lambert

I read somewhere on the net last (can't remember exactly where now) that at Cork he was used as a striker at home in a 4-4-2 formation and as a winger away in a 4-5-1 formation. So maybe that is where they get the striker/winger thing from?

I haven't looked at his wiki page at all. I got/get my stats from soccerbase. Here is the link for this guy:

On an interview i heard with him, someone asked him would you mind being sold to a championship club to play full time and he said NO. This interview was only 2/3 weeks ago.

Is that "NO", he wouldn't mind being sold to a CCC club, or "no" he would not move there. Not that we are a CCC club anymore of course.

If he refuses such a move then he won't be seeing much - if any - first team football at Sunderland.

As I know nothing about the bloke, apart from some pretty unimpressive statistics in one of the threads on here, I'm not fussed if he were to come to Saints or not.At 24 he does not have a great track record to enthuse over.

I think we should write him off before he's even signed.

After all, we're the experts.

I can't see anyone writing him off, unless I've missed it. I can see people commenting on his not particuarly impressive goal record but that's all we have to go by at the moment. Can't see anyone being negative though. I'd support this signing if it happens.

It's about the same as if it was written on the bog wall in a pub.In fact probably less so, I mean if "Mandy takes it up the a**e" is written it's probably true, whereas this gem probably isn't.

in english no generally means he doesn't want something rather than he does want it.

Sunderland fans views.

Although tbf they did say the same about Davis.

Ah fickle football fans.

When Sunderland got promoted they thought he was the best thing since sliced bread, and was also voted the best keeper in the CCC. When they got relegated overnight he became the worst.

I actually think it took him 2 years to get his confidence back, plus his blunder against QPR at home in his first season didn't help. We all got on his back after that (including me)

I wouldn't worry about not hearing any rumours or gossip with regards to potential signings. Harding, Hammond and Trotman all came out of the blue, so who's to say that Pards hasn't got another target in mind?

As for O'Donovan, I can't really comment as I've only seen him play a handful of times, but he looked OK. Nothing special mind, but it would be silly to right him off before he even gets here though. In Pards we trust!
