brightspark Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 Judging by our non-winning attitude, I think we will be lucky to survive, even if we have the best 'team'. It seems that anyone that puts on a Saints shirt becomes, suddenly, a worse player than they really can be... I'm desperate to be proved wrong. eurosaint Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 Steady improvement should soon translate into wins, so I predict upper middle of league but probably too late to make the play-offs !
Saint Garrett Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 Firstly to get to 0 points! I think we should work on short term targets this season and stay in the league with any thing else a bonus, and try and build a squad which is going to be going for the title next year. Saint Bones Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 For me ( and I dare say most of us ) continual improvement and for deserts a safe mid to higher table finish after a barnstorming end to the season ! I will take stability though

Pilchards Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 I still think we'll make the play offs. Me too. On paper we have better players than any team in the division but we lack the confidence, once we get that back then winning 10 games out of 12 will give you 30 points over a short period. Come January the loan players can go back If not good enough to be replaced with more quality ones due to our league place and then the club pushes on for a playoff spot perhaps? lordswoodsaints Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 (edited) My expectations are that we will be lucky to survive. Going by the stats we need 1.3 points per game just finish outside of the relegation zone,at the moment we are gaining 0.6 points per game so to ask an already disfunctional, unfit bunch of players to more than double their efforts is a tough task for pardew. IMO at the moment I don't think we have got it in us to do it,I hope I am wrong and pardew turns it around, but personally I think it will take more than pardew has to offer. There is something more wrong with this club than just changing a manager and buying a few players to fix it I'm afraid. So my prediction is relegation again but I would love it if I was wrong. I'm on holiday so was unable to get to the game but the booing came over the radio loud and clear,it seems the natives are getting restless. I am standing by my prediction but I will add that pardew will be lucky to last until Christmas. Redbul Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 Zero points, then play offs.... Sadly it's not just getting the points back, we have to close the gap on those around us. We are 11 pts from safety at the moment. We need to get that winning feeling back and we need it quick. We're on relegation form and we need to improve quickly. I'd be happy with survival in this league this season and then push onwards and upwards next.

Lose away happily, it's... your loss Sometimes it seems to me, as if you wouldn't want to miss the opportunity of being the boy who saw that the emperor really had no clothes on! It's certainly better than running the risk of having faith and being proven wrong. Because then you wouldn't be the realistic, cynical truth-seer (quite cool!), you'd just be a happy clappy idiot fan like the rest of us (quite uncool)... That said, it's probably not a bad thing that all fans aren't as conservative or even complacent as I am... Let's leave it at that and find a more interesting topic. Joesaint Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 I feel like my club really is going in the right direction, have to say not even I knew how bad the club set-up had got under Lowe. This is going to take time to change, I think we are playing well and feel that a 2 season deadline to get to the championship is the right approach. Although I feel we can make the play-offs its a long season and we seem to improve every game. I am more than happy how everything has turned out for our club and feel the future is bright. Players confidence will be shot, pardew will be struggling to find an answer and the owners will become restless.....not to mention us lot,it's already happening after 5 games so after 5 months it will be intense. Financial and survival decisions will have to be made by the owners......5 year plan or not, pardew will be in a precarious position.
S-Clarke Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 (edited) i think it's sad that the mid-set of everyone this year is to either avoid relegation, or expecting us to go down. I can kind of understand why in way, as all we've had for the past few years is relegation battles, but we 'shouldn't be anywhere near relegation by the end of this season IMO. If we did go down, the damage of a 2nd successive relegation could be impossible to repair, i think that would actually confirm us as a lower league team for a long time. - i can guarantee we'd have a new manager and another new set of players, who will again take time to adjust to a new level etc etc etc. FWIW i can see us comfortably mid-table, we've left it too late to mount any playoff push but i expect a strong end to the season where our team (which is better than 90% in this league) actually starts winning games on a regular basis. I expect us to then kick on next season and win the damn thing, the expectation should be nothing less. Edited 31 August, 2009 by S-Clarke

dune Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 I expect us to survive - just. Given how rubbish we were a week before the season started and given the 10 point penalty that would be a satisfactory season. If we still had last seasons squad we'd struggle in L2. S-Clarke Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 If we still had last seasons squad we'd struggle in L2. no we wouldn't. why do people say this? i don't understand... Mcgoldrick/Surman/BWP would be too good for L2, the problem last year was mismanagement, not a lack of player ability. I still wished we'd have kept Mcolgrick, as he would have been a brilliant player at this level.
Under Weststand Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 Expectations now well I'd hope we'd be in a relatively comfortable position by Christmas, Then who knows what can happen in the run in if the team and players are more confident & a winning attitude has been achieved.I Don't expect us to get a play off place but would like to think others would be looking over there shoulders worrying about us having a good run at the end of the season. This season is all about putting right 5/6 years of mismanagement, & putting into place everything for a proper promotion push next year.
mattyd Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 With 4 down from this league I think we will find it hard. My guess, survival as the small teams run out of players through injury and suspension. 20th place
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 I'll be happy to finish 17th or above and with a stable, improving finish to the season. Not a lack of aspiration on my part, more a feeling that once this season is done we can then push forward through the close season and into 10/11. badgerx16 Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 41 games left, and we need to reach 50 to be reasonably secure, which means we need 57 points from those games; 15 wins, 13 draws, and 13 defeats will mean we just avoid relegation. I think we will do slightly better than that, and will probably be mathematically safe around Easter. Anybody still thinking about the play-offs is expecting us to reach somewhere around 75 points, ( net 82 ), which equates to 24 wins, 10 draws, and only 7 more losses this season - sorry, dream on.
