Attending a game on crutches

Bloke infront of me did it for a bit last season and put one crutch either side of him, just about enough room for the people behind. Obviously depends where you sit, but as long as you get there early enough and don't mind waiting around a bit at the end to patiently leave, shouldnt be a major issue.

Ring the club and tell them you are disabled temporarily. There is loads of diabled seats at the front. People park in disabled parking spots when there is nothing visibly wrong with them or any passengers (i know not all disabilities are visible before all the pedants start), so a bloke on crutches should be treated accordingly.

Ive done it before mate, you can just lay the crutches underneath the seats along the row, the problem i found was its bloody knackering walking from/to town on crutches, also one bald steward threatened to rip my head off because i wanted to wait behind a little bit after so as not to get crushed on the bridge!

Think it will be a lot easier at SMS than it was when I had to do it at the Dell up in the West Stand after ligament surgery...

The day MLT scored that goal through the legs over the head and volley - Wimbledon or Newcastle I forget at this time of night

Don't make my mistake of leaping up with a cructh still loosely on your arm and watching it sail about 10 rows forwards and clouting someone on the head....

We did the stadium tour when SMS was still shiny and new, our guide on the day said that they have to provide a certain number of seats on the front rows for people who have a temporary disability like yourself, who would be a hindrance in the middle of the stand with crutches should the stadium need to be evacuated in a hurry. So let them know when you buy your tickets.

think i'll pay for parking near the ground, cant walk too far. 6 weeks down the line after ACL reconstruction. I'm gonna have to be pretty careful i think, not much jumping around, and will probably choose to sit in a quiet area of the ground, maybe Kingsland half way line-ish.

Its the bloody steps to the seats i'm not looking forward to!

Ever done it? Considering it for tomorrow's game just wondering if anyone on here had done it before? Best place to stash em during the game? Cheers

Be very carfull if you're in block 4-5. Only the fit and very beautiful are welcome in Marcus's stand.

LOL@ Stevo and Wow Banana (or whatever his face is) having been to games on crutches.

I was going to ask about the MK Dons game myself, as I've got a (minor) knee op the day before - and that'll be 3 ex IFC team members on this thread having done it then... and they say sport is good for your health.

Oh, and Foxy, four. If he posts.

Any more ?

14 Years ago i did a couple of games at The Dell on crutches, sat in Archers saw bu**er all because everyone was stood up and then took 30mins to do a 10min walk back to where mates car was parked

crutches under seat still did the classic wave of the crutch after we scored

Promotion season 79 at Luton when Peachy scored a penalty in front of the away fans which virtually sealed our promotion, in the mayhem of the goal celebrations on the pre all seater terraces a crutch was being lobbed about over our heads  Don't know if the previous owner suddenly had a miraculous recovery and no longer needed it or it met with the Dubai Phil involuntary javelin launch scenario :p

I went away to Norwich, Southend and Derby home games in the playoff season on crutches, shoved my crutches under the seat. At Norwich i was ment to be sat right at the back i thought blow that, so asked a steward who sat me right at the front and narrowly missed out on getting Barts shirt (if only i had been more mobile ooh the irony!)

I took a Canadian friend to her first Saints match earlier this season (Colchester, yawn) and she managed to break her anke on the plane over from Montreal.

The club were great, giving us seats on the front row near the halfway line. Lots of legroom but leave the crutches sticking out so you don't get kicked :).

One steward was particularly brilliant - let me bring the car very close.

Shouldn't have a problem.

Broke both bones in my right leg in 1966 when we were promoted to first division, pinned and bandaged not plastered so pretty unstable. On crutches, drove my mothers automatic to Leyton and Plymouth using left foot on brake and bad foot on accelerator.

Stood in the terracing at Leyton but sat on the touchline at Plymouth.

Ask Mr Murty he should be able to help and at the same time ask him when he will be back

Looked very good when I saw him play

I did when I was on crutches last year - called the club who were no help as I was only temporarily disabled and wouldn't give me one of the special seats. Did sell me a seat in the front row, nearest the exit, but I still had to go up some stairs to get back down again so wish I'd gone a few rows back. Stuck the crutches under my seat. We lost 1-0 so no need to get to my feet all game...

Best of all was going early and finding £5 parking within 200 yards of the stadium...

Agony.

Was going to warn you about that but didn't want to put you off.

My Dell game was about a week after ACL work as well. It was agony then until a bloke let me sit at the end of the row.

But even today sitting in those seats with the knee at a right angle causes me trouble.

I had to travel back to Dubai a couple of days later and never got the correct physio, make sure you do all the hard yards coming up, it is REALLY important

Not much fun at all, some little kid kept getting up to pee so had to keep moving up and down. Ouch. Swollen up like a balloon now!

Yeah im physio-ing at the moment, not going to badly but its a long long road!

Hey The9,

Not sure of the full history, but the iteration of the Southampton Internet FC I'm talking about developed from the Saints Forever v Pompey Online matches (two 4-0 thrashings duly handed out), developed into playing matches against other clubs' fans (not so successful) and spawned a frequently shorthanded side that came bottom of the Sholing Press (bottom) Div 4 last season and feature Nick Illingsworth at centre back on far too many occasions. :D

There's also a team that's been attending the WorldNet fans' team competitions for years (since 1996) and last year there were "normal" and "veterans" sides for the first time.

Generally, we're a bit cack though.

Agreed.

Bone to bone patellar graft over here, thus replacing the (snapped) ACL...........

Is it the Arthroscapy (sp) tomoro 9 me old fruit?

Just spotted this, no the arthroscopy is Oct 23rd, the day before the MK Dons game. Nothing so serious for me, I delayed it for a month to get a work project completed after waiting 8 years for the op...

Just phoned the ticket office, who eventually told me to phone customer services, which I did, and that told me the match ticket details and when I pressed the button for an operator, sent me back to the ticket office.

Then the second person told me if I turn up at the Ticket Office they'll be able to swap my ST for an aisle seat, which is a bit rubbish, especially as the first person had already told me there were no aisle seats available in the same block (he helpfully checked, which was the one useful part of the whole experience).

So, two phonecalls down, no better off, mildly annoyed at actually having to go there to get it done, you'd think they'd at least have a contingency for people who hadn't planned in advance and therefore couldn't get to the ticket office in person.

So, I think I may just pitch up on crutches on the day and sit somewhere convenient to me. Which won't be my seat, about 20 rows back and 7 or 8 seats in.

That's it, vote with your feet - well foot, anyway ;)
