...to boost the gate past that annoying 19 thousand - we keep getting.

Although we've had over 20,000 for the opening game v. Millwall.

Home League games since have been; 19169, 17070, 19907, 19724, 19457..

surely there must be a few "closet" fans who would come, now that RL is no longer chairman ..and we've actually won 3 games in a row ? COYR !!!

(I'd come myself if I could, but there must be some others who live closer to SMS than central Stockholm !)

The 'reasons' to stay away ended start of this season, but people will still make excuses.

WindmillArms for example

"I wont attend while Redknapp is in charge"

"I wont attend while Burley is in charge"

"I wont attend while Lowe is at the club"

Be interested to hear his 'reasons' for still not attending.

I use Windmill as an example - I know plenty more are the same.

Arm chair fans!!

Are you getting on easyjet this weekend then? ;)

On a serious note, I'd like to think we can get 22-23k for this game - surely there has to be some sort of feel good factor (although not from everyone obviously!), plus MK Dons are one of the bigger teams in this league. It's getting bloody COLD though now!!

I went to the Rovers game, but shiftwork limits me to a handful of games a season. I aim to get down whenever I can though.

I think 19k is fantastic for this League, all credit to those that go. Our recent form should boost attendances and next Saturday's game vs the Dons should push us over the 20k barrier.

I live 450 miles away but have seen 2 games this season and will aim to see at least 6.

I do my best to support my side (as I know you do) just wish a few more 'arm chair' fans went to games once in a while, especially now we are playing well and winning games.

Time to forget the past and get behind our side.

I'm not criticising you in any way. If I lived up there, I wouldn't manage 6 I wouldn't think. In fact until I moved within driving distance on SMS 5 years ago, I made only 6 or so a year myself.

I do agree, the armchair fans need to get to the games now. Momentum is a huge thing, as we all agree on. Imagine the momentum building, as we win more games, more fans show up, we win even more games, even more fans show up.....snowball effect and all that.

I went back to SMS this season with some apprehension. After everything we have gone through I didn't quite dare to be as optimistic as I ought to have been: 'New owner, new manager, new horizons...so what the hell is going to go wrong next!' kind of attitude. And then I had gotten out of the habit.

I am now feeling convinced, although my nerves are never in good order if we're in the lead with ten minutes or more to play. It's the opposite of Pavlov's dogs who salivated when they heard the bell ring before food arrived. Saints in the lead was too good to last.

I have expected over 20000 over the last few games, but if we don't break it on Saturday then we will have lost a good many supporters foor good it seems, or have they even stopped following the club even from the Echo and Radio Solent?

If Herr Liebherr can fly in from abroad each week after saving our life it is the least I can do to get over from West Dorset, it's the only way I can show my gratitude. I am still amazed that he should take on the sinking ship which we were, now we must do our part in making it work, of course we will pass 20 thousand on Saturday and soon 25thou.

Isn't Switerland near Austria?

Mr Liebherr could give Alpine a lift.:p

That would be awesome. I guess it depends on the MK Dons away support (they barely have any home support do they?!)

Oddly they have quite a decent home support for League One with the sixth highest attendance. I wish they didn't as their formation from the bones of Wimbledon was a disgrace.

Hat's off to the Norwich fans. For a city with a population of 132,000 to pack in nearly 24 thousand in League 1 is phenominal (By the same measure Southampton is 228,600 and Leeds population is 770,800).

6th highest attendance? Really? What's their average attendance? Every time I see them on tv, their stadium looks empty!

In the same way as England is near Scotland, yes.

I once spent a mindless half hour at Carter Bar on the A68, hopping from England to Scotland and back again. I was out surveying and waiting on my 'pole man' to arrive with the Land Rover. It was bloody cold.

Nice campaign pity it's 12 months to late. No offence but some of our fans have the logic of postal workers.

Let's get this right. The reason for why you would side with one side or the other in the postal dispute tend to be that you are biased to support the rather poorly paid workers, the rather well healed bosses, or that you don't give a toss for as long as the society you identify with is not disturbed in any way. Since I don't think you are one of the bosses your reasons for expressing your views on the postal workers look highly suspect to me. As suspect as that you are now on the side of Peter Mandelson, one of the least popular politicians in modern times.

Don't want to start a political debate, but to srike given the current predicament facing the postal service in this country is ridiculous.

Tomorrow, my business will start using an alternative delivery service.

I would love to go back to the postal service. Any postmen out there like to explain why I should bother??

Of course, their union boss could. Tell me, where is his five bedroom mansion...

Would expect about 23,000 on Saturday. As long as we keep winning, the fans will return. Very frustrating for us that go week in week out but that's football.

It's not frustrating. I just think it's the difference between people who appreciate success and those who expect it.

I pity those who can't appreciate that highs require lows to have any meaning.

Profound.

Illustrated by the half-hearted and quickly muted cheers of the ManUre fans on MoTD as they went ahead against Bolton yesterday. Put that up against the hysteria of our 3rd goal that meant the points were safe.

Suggest we move this to the lounge but IMO the logic of the postal workers is as flawed as the miner's strike in the 1980's and more about protecting their cosy world than moving into more modern times with the inevitable loss of jobs that no doubt will be achieved through natural wastage anyway.

My understading is that the taxpayer (assume you are one) contributes 90% to every postal workers's final salary scheme pension, is that correct? Happy with that and the the fact they deem it necessary to strike to resist modernisation. I believe that pay should be commensurate with role and responsibilities and for many doing a bit of sorting, finishing an easy round and going home after 4 hours of one shift and refusing to help out elsewhere to fulfill your allotted shift hours is taking le tiss. No doubt they need to start their other afternoon jobs.

On second thoughts don't take it to the lounge I have said my piece and it's a national disgrace the Postal Workers are trying to mine an exhausted seam and we all suffer as a result. I have absolutely zero sympathy for them so hope that is clear for you. Mandelson is an irrelevant argument and you could say that about many of the cabinet ministers with the possible exception of Alan Johnson IMO.

unfortunately they are the ones that do the most bleating and moaning.

Erm, is that not logical ?

Some of the "plastics" may describe those you see as "loyal and faithful" as complete dimwits for happily accepting anything and everthing the club has served up over the past 5 years.

Besides, I am certain the heirarchy at SFC does not agree with you and Denzil; the more bums-on-seats, the more they can convince our beloved owner to invest in the team.

The man who knows the pain of defeat knows the elation of victory. He who doesn't is in for a nasty shock...

Be good to see some of the big boys fail spectacularly this year to remind them that success is a fickle mistress. ;)

Good point, well made. Crazy time to call a strike - they need to wake up and smell the coffee. Failing that, start thinking about how they meet the demands of their customers - radical for this type of organisation I know.

Err, back to the OP. I think 20k will be easily achieved this weekend.

My grandparents had a local post office, so don't get me wrong. This is an organisation I feel passionately for and about.

But some serious thinking is required from BOTH sides about how to meet the digital era. And striking ain't the answer.

Striking should be used only where there is a genuine grievance about mismanagement - such as in the case of workplace bullying, impoverished working conditions, etc.

What's happened here is that two sides simply can't reach an agreement.

So, why not sit the f u c k down and discuss what NEEDS to be done?

Put the numbers on the table and ask the workers/management/unions what the best approach would be. Oh, and then ask the customers if they agree...

Cos at the moment, we have so many alternatives it's laughable.

People on here are commenting on the JCL's and plastic fans.. Well maybe we are also attracting new fans. My daughters boyfriend never been to any match before, been twice already this season and has tickets for this saturday and the JPT match. He is 23 so could have come in the PL or Championship years. So a very warm welcome to all you new fans out there and those returning to the fold for whatever reason.

Also lady on the phone said sales for this W/E going 'very well' . Whatever that means.

Agreed. I would have a full ground over a half empty one any day - so long as I can get in!!!!!!! ;)

I don't know why, but MK Dons have only been given 550 tickets for the match

Needless to say, they've sold out

Not sure if they will be asking for more

Probably what they are allocated on sale or return? They will probably ask for another similar allocation but have to guarantee the cash.

I think the matchday pricing is hindering "casual" attendance. Quite rightly season ticket holders got a good package this season, with the single Adult average of about £15 per game. As someone who can only attend a few games (as Im so lucky to work in retail!) the matchday price of £22 or £25 depending on where you sit is a little steep. It hasnt stopped me attending a couple of games so far, and nor will it, but Im sure its a big reason for others.

If it was £19 or £20 I think pschologically more people would find that affordable. Only minor criticism of the new regime so far!!

Succesful team = more fun to watch = bigger crowd.

It's not complicated.

I expect 22-24k this Saturday. If we win and then beat Orient away we should be looking at 25,000+ against Norwich who will no doubt bring a good following with them.
