Graham Potter...

He hardly played for us at all, was an Ian Branfoot signing I think..a bit like Colin Cramb, a disaster!

A bit later than that I think, I'm sure he was a Merrington or Souness. I remember seeing him score for us in a pre-season friendly at Cheltenham just after he arrived in a 3-1 victory at Whaddon Road, which I seem to remember was arranged as part of a deal for another signing that didn't come off - Christer Warren.

That's about it though!

In my top 5 worst ever Saints players. Lee Todd is also there, as is Oliver Lancashire now. And they are all ahead of Ali Dia.

Wise words, Rattlehead. Potter, Todd and Lancashire are my worst 3 over the last 20 years. It is surreal that Potter had an involvement in the 6-3 game. He was beyond inept.

Top mid-nineties saints crap XI?

I'd go with something like:

Woods

Todd Marshall Dryden Potter

Slater Reid Venison Warren

Dia Johansen

How much would that team get done by?

Slater and Dryden weren't that bad and I actually quite liked both of them. The others are fair enough.

I thought Chris Woods was one of the worst... remember the 7-1 at Everton....

Yes, I recall being 5-0 down after 35 mins only for Egil to somehow extract some optimism with a freak goal. We hung on until 20 mins to go to beat the crowds (ours had mainly already left). Worst game ever.

Graham Potter doesn't immediately come to mind as one of our worst ever players. He was an okay player who was better suited to the lower leagues. Ripley, McCann, Marshall, Almeida, Kanchelskis, Todd, Dixon, Speedie, Davenport, Maskell and Rosler are names that spring to mind as experienced players who were complete flops at Saints. Paul Moody was appalling for us but had a decent career in the lower leagues. Some like Chala, Bleidelis, Arias, Sarmiento and Tejera barely played a league game between them. Others like Hurlock and Colleter were committed but rash and error-prone. Time will tell with Lancashire as he is is still learning but his major hamstring injuries from a couple of seasons back have really hampered his progress.

This topic got me researching a couple of other names who I really don't know what happened to (Phil Warner and Paul Murray), and I came across this link:

I never realised that Moyes accepted the Saints job, or is this just BS?

Quoted from this article;

"Balance Kachloul's exit with the new faces. Former QPR midfielder Paul Murray's arrival may have been unheralded, but he's an able replacement for Kachloul."

Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooo? Wiki said he played 1 game for us! I cant even say Id ever heard of him!

Seems he was Mick "Master of Football" Wadsworth's lover or similar, followed him around throughout his career and was thus brought in when he was no 2 to Stuart Gray. Strachan didn't rate him, so he was straight out of the club...

I really can't think of that many crap 'keepers. I'm tempted to say Forecast, but I can't recall him ever making a first team appearance other than pre-season friendlies. Some people say Alan Blayney, but my overriding memory of him is making the Premier League's 'save of the season' against Alan Shearer.

Woods is now Evertons goalkeeping coach? He must have impressed someone that day!

He gets the ball he will never score, Moody, Moody,,,,,Southamptons worst ever signing Paul Moody Moody.................sung to the RL tune. Now if you going to replace Shearer you do not go shopping in Waterlooville!

Can't beleive Neil McCann has flown under the radar here, as with Kerry Dixon, David Speedie, Alan McLoughlin, Steve Wood, Derek Allen, Michael Stensgaard, Darren Kenton, Lucien Mettomo, Jordan Robertson, Jason St Juste, Peter Whiston, and Paul McDonald deserve a mention in Saints crapology too....phew!

That does seem to ring a bell, thought his first name was Russ for some reason, but Matt Robinson does sound about right!

You're thinking of Russ Watkinson. From memory he was tallish with very short/shaven hair. Souness seemed to like him and played him a few times, think he may have played wide midfield but not 100% sure.

As for that Guardian link, I can't think of a more inappropriate description of Anders Svensson than a "pacy winger"!!
