Granadino Posted 13 November, 2009 Share Posted 13 November, 2009 He hardly played for us at all, was an Ian Branfoot signing I think..a bit like Colin Cramb, a disaster! A bit later than that I think, I'm sure he was a Merrington or Souness. I remember seeing him score for us in a pre-season friendly at Cheltenham just after he arrived in a 3-1 victory at Whaddon Road, which I seem to remember was arranged as part of a deal for another signing that didn't come off - Christer Warren. That's about it though!

Something that I must have forgotten - stunned to just read up we paid 850k for Todd! That must go down as one of the biggest wastes of money in club history. revolution saint Posted 13 November, 2009 Share Posted 13 November, 2009 Probably Souness's first signing and a really bad one. I remember seeing him in a pre-season friendly at oxford and he tried a headed clearance from a ball two foot off the ground. It would have should have been comical but instead it was just sad. Wise words, Rattlehead. Potter, Todd and Lancashire are my worst 3 over the last 20 years. It is surreal that Potter had an involvement in the 6-3 game. He was beyond inept. Paul Chuckle Posted 13 November, 2009 Share Posted 13 November, 2009 Signed by Souness from Stoke for 250k I think. I seem to remember him getting England under 21 caps? Didn't we sell him to WBA?

madsent Posted 14 November, 2009 Share Posted 14 November, 2009 In my top 5 worst ever Saints players. Lee Todd is also there, as is Oliver Lancashire now. And they are all ahead of Ali Dia. Graham Potter doesn't immediately come to mind as one of our worst ever players. He was an okay player who was better suited to the lower leagues. Ripley, McCann, Marshall, Almeida, Kanchelskis, Todd, Dixon, Speedie, Davenport, Maskell and Rosler are names that spring to mind as experienced players who were complete flops at Saints. Paul Moody was appalling for us but had a decent career in the lower leagues. Some like Chala, Bleidelis, Arias, Sarmiento and Tejera barely played a league game between them. Others like Hurlock and Colleter were committed but rash and error-prone. Time will tell with Lancashire as he is is still learning but his major hamstring injuries from a couple of seasons back have really hampered his progress. You're thinking of Russ Watkinson. From memory he was tallish with very short/shaven hair. Souness seemed to like him and played him a few times, think he may have played wide midfield but not 100% sure. As for that Guardian link, I can't think of a more inappropriate description of Anders Svensson than a "pacy winger"!!
