I believe the ''lodge'' for the acadamy is also moving to the training ground site.

Minty Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 We should all go online ... and support the Application before the politically correct brigade say its near a green field site and try and prevent it. A bit unfair. It's a redevelopment of existing buildings on private land, shielded from the road, and no part of it will be any more visible from the road than the present buildings are, so even individuals who are concerned about inappropriate development (like myself) should have no issues with this. I like it, from a general point of view, as well as as a Saints fan.

The Banana Factor Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 Looks good but that is one of the worst Planning Applications for something of such a professional nature that i have ever seen, littered with spelling mistakes and the supporting figures are limited and in places completely unclear as to what they represent. The plans look fantastic and hopefully they will go through but i am not particularly impressed with whoever the planning agent is on this! Whereas, in comparison, the Swiss owners have (imho) barely put a foot wrong since their arrival and treated the fans with respect and professional courtesy. I am proud and confident we have some of the best owners in the football league who are investing for the future, to expect a return, but speculating to accumlate. A bit of money, invested with foresight and logic goes a long way. Seems strange those traits have been missing on the South Coast for so long eh?! What is it with Cedar cladding in modern architecture - its everywhere... does look nice though. ;-) Think you answered your own question there! ;o) Assumed you were being tongue in cheek. I was always under the impression that we had brilliant facilities anyway. The Dome, etc. The Dome is new-ish and for the size of it, I imagine relatively cheap to build. The buildings: the changing rooms, etc. look a bit archaic. Like an old sixties community centre. Although I have to say, back in the day, the catering for fans was significantly better than that at The Dell...

I was always under the impression that we had brilliant facilities anyway. The Dome, etc. Depends what you're comparing them against. When we first moved there they were state of the art and several upgrades have helped (the Dome is superb and is not being touched). However, most Premier League clubs (some obvious exceptions) and some Championship teams, plus Norwich City in L1, currently have better facilities than us. We will never compete with Manyoo's, Arsenal's and Chelsea's facilities but hopefully this redevelopment will get us up there with the best of the rest. I am confident that we have shrewd business people running the club now, I have nothing but confidence in their ability to deliver the full package. We have the ground, makes sence that we should have comparible training facilities - after all essentially they are used more frequently than SMS. Before, we got £7 million for Crouch and built a Dome - for the rest of the summer we only spent £90k on the first team.
SFKA South Woodford Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 Where's the swimming pool? I heard that a lot of big clubs were incorporating these in their training facilities now for Hydro therapy purposes. For example, Spurs only built a new training facility in Chigwell about 7 years ago and are now building another one in Enfield which incorporates a swimming pool. See below for details. New Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre at Bulls Cross, Enfield. A few facts: Cost - £30 million. 11 outdoor grass pitches (1 floodlit). 1 outdoor articifial pitch, floodlit. 1 indoor artificial pitch. Various other outdoor training areas, including dedicated goalkeeping areas. Hydrotherapy pool; swimming pool; medical and physio rooms; gyms; media centre; admin offices; changing rooms; dining rooms; lounges; classrooms for academy and schoolboy players. Building footprint - 7738 sq metres. Total size of site - approx 60 acres. To see images of what it looks like, they apparently have a special area on their website. Matthew Le God Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 (edited) The article for the training ground keeps mentioning "lack of space " on the site. I wonder if they have or would consider moving completely to a new site. Maybe hard to do with planning and green belts but would give more space. I wonder if any plans have been drawn up to improve St Mary's? Changing rooms at St Mary's have already been done in last few weeks but will anything else internally be upgraded or a stadium capacity expansion in the pipeline for potentially playing in the Premiership again.
