I'd like to see Lallana centrally instead of Hammond and two from Antonio, Waigo and Holmes on the flanks.

Disagree, Hammond gives fantastic energy to that midfield.

Pompey will be playing either Steve Finnan or Marc Wilson at RB - Lallana will be beating them time after time.

Play Antonio on the other wing and watch him take the p*ss out of Hreidersson as well.

Holmes will not be leaving. Did you read the complimentary comments that AP made about him in the programme on saturday??

Of course AP has been saying good things about him, nevertheless the "first team squad" is really getting top heavy and AP keeps on saying it needs to be reduced. It's players who are actually worthy of a game that will leave not the down and outs because most of them have already had a loan this season and as far as I can understand that rules out another move for 5 or 6 players for this season unless they return to the same club.

Surely Holmes is replacing Mellis or James is replacing Mellis we do seem to have too many players now

james is never going to lead a game from midfield, and despite the endeavour, i thought Holmes was a bit too cumbersome on sat! Didn't look threatening!!!

I think we need a midfielder who can put his foot on the ball and dictate play from a central position! the bloke from Norwich, hoolahan was it, did it brilliantly against us!!!

Personally think, Stock would give us this option!!!

not really AP says we haven't replaced Mellis yet and that we will be doing so.

We already have far too many midfield players on the squad.Assuming that the new guy will be a decent player it means that it'll be 4 out of about 8 or 9 in midfield for every game. That's not ideal really as there is no cohesion from match to match.Successful sides have a stable engine room.

I dont disagree with you but AP is saying he is replacing Mellis who was hardly a first choice player I would have thought and we have enough players now to cover for his loss

But if we are playing Barnard and Lambert we dont need five in midfield

nope it will be a flexible 442 most of the time.

all this talk of replacing Mellis leads me to think that one at least of our real midfielders will leave as soon as we make a new signing.Otherwise it just doesn't make any sense when we already have Lallana,Morgan,Hammond,James,Waigo,Holmes and Antonio plus eventually Wotton ,Gobern and Gillett for 4 places. To me we're just signing players and

not managing the outgoings from the squad very well

NEVER !

in the run-up to the end of the season we'll need every fit, in-form player we can get hold of. As AP commented having Holmes available is almost like another "signing" and Saturdays hero Thomas is playing his best football since he arrived.

But j ust now we still have Murty, Connolly, and Hammond out (thankfully Jaidi is now back). Schneiderlin suspended....and who knows what may happen in the coming weeks. Though it was good to see Mills have a good game - after his dismal apps. earlier in the season.

Our TWO cup competitions need other players than the ordinary squad with cup-tied players; Seabourne," Semmi " and

Forte to be considered. Barnard wasn't FA cup tied..but did he play in JPS earlier in the season ?

There are so many combinations to think of ...when you what might happen.

Lamberts consistancy has ben phenomenol this season, but surely he needs to be rested now and again if he is to survive a potential 60 game season.

There will be a "sorting out " after May, depending on ....but right now we need everyone we can lay our hands on.

You have to realistic we just have a huge squad for league 1

I don't think our squad is as "huge" as people think. Look at the squad list and it includes people like Reeves, Preen, Doble and McNish. They are youth team players who are included in the squad list because they had a squad number for one or two games, that's all. They don't train with the first team squad or travel to games with them.

We are looking for cover in every position. IMO signing another midfielder makes sense so that we can still put out a full strength team that features either a 4 or 5 man midfield in every competitioon regardless of players being cup tied, injured or suspended. AP has said he is looking to replace Mellis and that he is going for the play-offs. To do that we will end up playing the best part of 60 games this season and we will need a big squad to cope.

The squad may be BIG in numbers, but it is NOT (strength in depth) Big in QUALITY

Slowly but surely, Pardew is increasing the Quality IMHO

Then, either now, or in May, he will offload those that are surplus to requirements

Good strategy, you don't blow the bridge until everybody's across:D:)
