Dad, if we played like that every week......

Amazing the clarity with which pre-teenagers can see things, I think sometimes, having 2 myself.

Real sh*t that life is more complicated :(

He is right though. It is terribly frustrating when we let teams get back into games. It's worse because we know that the quality is there to be winning handsomely most weeks. I think we are underperforming at the moment with the players we have at our disposal.

I think he's right - but we do need to take our chances even when it's the England goalkeeper.

Yeah I do agree with that. That was the difference... But, the way we created the chances against a supposed Premier League defence is something to look upon and take a positive from. If it wasn't for James' reaction saves we could have been 2-0 up!

Yes but if we take the chances we could be 3-0 up in the first half away from home. All I'm saying is we can take positives from it. Just time to put it into action week in week out, especially away from home.

Even if we had only taken one of the chances in the first half we would have been in a different ball game. We would have had less pressure on the players and this could have led to us completely humiliating them.

I think it was that close.

You can't beat the clarity of vision of Children watching this great game, their views are so untainted.

Driving to the game yesterday the Academy final v Aston Villa on a Friday night came up, my now 15year old daughter piped up from the back of the car to recount what a great game it was, I just recall from that night watching her and a few other kids around us sliding forwards on their seats in expectation whenever we went on the attack.

What an adventure sprouts who are coming to games now are possibly about to set out on with Saints. I had it when I was 11 with Saints FA Cup, Promotion, metaphorically spreading the big teams noses across their faces on a Saturday afternoon.................... Great stuff!!

If we defend like we did for the last 30mins we wouldnt win the league.

Well ordinarily, we wouldn't have a Chris Perry and Radhi Jaidi partnership in the league. They did their jobs excellently against Pompey, for as long as their legs could carry them. But I think if Fonte and/or Seabourne had been available for selection, we might have seen a different result.

I'd imagine Semi would have better than Thomas at keeping up with their counter attacks down our right as well.

They're hardly likely to catch us with 3 late counterattacks if we're already 3 goals up and not pushing forward in numbers with 3 at the back...

Just a quick word to add that I thought referee Howard Webb had an excellent game yesterday too. We're used to seeing way too many abysmal refs in this division - so it was good to see a top ref in charge yesterday for such a highly-charged game.

Agreed, however if we'd had League 1 linesman he might not of spotted Barnard was offside. ;-)

True. He was almost invisible. I'm struggling to think of one decision he actually got wrong.

What are they teaching kids in school these days? If we played like that every week, we'd lose every game four one and find ourselves hanging out the backside of British football.

Do you think you child meant, "If we'd play like we played for the first 70mins but scored a few goals?"

I think you know full well what was being suggested. The 7 year old was saying that if Saints played like that every week against League One opposition, they'd murder them, and be so out of sight by 70 mins, and that they wouldn't have to be overcoming any goals scored by a League One team, who wouldn't have the pace and firepower of Pompey's strikeforce.

It's quite a simple concept. The 7 year old understood it. I'm sure you do too. :)

Are you sure?
