Our strongest 11

Didnt Jaidi play Tuesday, Saturday earlier in the season? Thats a genuine question because I cant be bothered to check, but I seem to remember he did. If he can hack it, then I would definitely pair him with Fonte everytime, regardless of opposition, because we have shown a propensity to conceded goals against any opposition.

Yesterday has to be our strongest 11. Whether Connolly is fit or not, Barnard scored twice yesterday and his all round play was excellent and he deserves to keep his place. Pards said before yesterdays game that he may make changes for Tuesday; it depends if the team he selects for Norwich go out and win. He's basically saying to them; 'you win and the team will be unchanged'.

That starting eleven with the option of Holmes, Papa, Antonio and Connolly from the bench if we need to chase a goal is awesome.

Will jaidi play tuesday and sat..?

other than that...there should be no reason to change the team I would have thought

There have been 4 times this season where Jaidi has played Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday so I really dont see a problem in keeping him in. He has had a period out of the side recently anyway so he cant be tired or unable to play games in succesion I wouldnt have thought.

If he cant play though then that should be the only change AP makes.

When Connolly is fit I would play him, or alternate him with Barnard. Connolly is by far the cleverest forward we have, is proven in the Premiership, and makes space for Lambert. For once we really do have an embarrassment of riches :)

It was the top 11 players he had available. I don't know if he would have picked the same team if Connolly and James had been fit, perhaps, perhaps not. Personally I think Connolly is class, and would be the first name on the team sheet if fit, I believe he is a major factor in the downturn in form we suffered until recently, along with the loss of Hammond. James, not so sure, but given Ap picked him for every game until very recently I would suspect that James is still very much part of AP's plans. I'm ignoring Murty as I think it is quite clear that he will not play for us again (at least this season).

Apart from this, then yes it is probably the best team. That said it is great that we can name a bckup team that still looks at least decent for this level on paper. I think we now have a very strong squad with good replacements in every position if needed.

This is a quote from AP on the OS:

"We managed to field our strongest team, with the Cup games we have had I have had to mix it up a little bit, but today I picked what I felt was our strongest side and we performed admirably,"

Seems that injury and suspension permitting we'll be seeing this team more often than not!

Indeed, but that might be Pards best team but if it gets beaten there will be plenty here who would take issue with the selection! ;)

Connolly is better than Barnard, but thats the only change. I'd also have James on the bench ahead of Wotton.

It seemed for a long time that AP would try and accomodate James into the team. I'm glad that he now doesn't see him as part of his strongest 11.

Good squad player to have but should not be starting in front of anyone who started yesterday

I still have my doubts about Barnard, esp compared against DC and Papa - but willing to wait and see before making any firm conclusions.

Interesting that Barnard commented in his post-match interview yesterday that he had been asked to play alot deeper. This is quite different from the Luton, Brentford, Stockport games where he seemed to play alot further up the field as part of a conventional 4-4-2. Maybe AP is trying to use him in a Teddy Sheringham-type role.

He was injured yesterday, so you don't know this is the case. AP played the strongest 11 he had available.

AP was quoted as saying yesterday was his strongest side and this was the first opportunity he had to play them. Perhaps he meant strongest side availible that day but I doubt it

Sorry but I think you are mistaken. I am100% sure Connolly would be in the team if fully fit and available. You can take his quote several ways, but I would think he meant strongest available, and first time he has been able to play his strongest available side. Murty would be in the team if available, though it seems quite clear to me that he won't be coming back from injury.

You should always be able to pick your strongest availible side! It's those that are not availible which poses the problem. You can take the quote many ways but I see that as an indication that he has been waiting to put out that team for a while but hasn't been able to due to the cups.

I wouldn't be against Connolly starting when fit but I really can't see him playing week in week out. AP will probably have to wrap him in cotton wool a little in order to prolong his career here so I see Barnard starting up front with Lambert more often or not.

Mistaken or not, the point I was making was that I hope that AP doesn't tinker with the team just to fit James in. As you say, when he is fit and availible then we'll see!

In my opinion Connolly is the best footballer at the club, so should if fit be in the side,

for Leigh Barnard. However fitness is always likely to be a problem with DC.

[i have no doubts that Barnard is a capable replacement for DC, before people assume I

do not rate him. I just think when fit DC is a class act].

Can't argue with Connolly being first choice but the team needs three strikers and we now have 3 top class for this Division, which should mean that AP doesn't have to go back to 4-5-1 any more. Jaidi and Seaborne is a hard choice to partner Fonte as they have different strengths, but Jaidi is getting just a bit slow on the ground which probably means Seaborne getting more games as time goes on. Jaidi may shade it at the mo but Seaborne is hard on his heels and will sometimes be preferred.
