In our first year in L1 we:

Get to Wembley in the JPT, first go too!

Have a useful FA cup run, knocked out eventually by prem opposition that had to cheat to beat us

Get a ten point penalty but avoid relegation finishing mid table and averaging two points a game

We start cherry picking the good players from other L1 & CCC clubs and add them to our squad ready for the big push next year.

Watch the funniest sporting soap opera ever down at Fratton Park which ends in relegation & potentially massive penalties in the CCC for admin/CVA not signed

I would have taken that a year ago!!!

what we have wanted all season is a couple of big mobile midfielders to stop the oppiosition and give us a base to work from. We still want.

No club is going to let a player like that go in the middle of the season. We will sign at least 1 more CM in the summer, more likely 2.

Unless of course, Cortese is determined to turn us into a QPR clone and sacks Pardew without giving him a fair chance.

whilst I'm dissapointed that we havn't seized a couple of opportunities to push on and gain some momentum towards the play offs I agree with the original post.

as a fan base we are not used to this league and we may have to get used to the fact that it's tough! How long have Leeds been down here? what's their excuse?!

For me, going to these ****ty little horrible little places in the ****ig rain on a cold nightn and grind a result is the last piece of the puzzle. we simply have to do it to get out of this league but I'm willing to wait a while longer for AP and the players to learn. If not then we have to get someone who can.

I'm confident that St Marys can become a fortress for us (hasn't been in some time) and I'm also confident that we'll get good results against teams who want to play football. AP has to get us winning games like tonight though in order for us to 'walk this league' next season but to not credit him for coming in and building us the team we have now, getting us comfortable in the league and taking us to a cup final would be unreasonable IMO.

Look, since we got our team settled, around the Bristol Rovers home match, our form has been play-off standard. Since then we've improved the team further.

There is every reason, as things stand, to think we will finish very high up the league next year.

Obviously if we go on a poor run for the rest of the season or something unpredictable and really bad happens that might change. For now, I think most normal people are enjoying themselves and looking to the future with great hope.

Read the OP..........

Thanks for the advice saint stevo, I often just come on here and post randomly without Reading the op. how silly of me. The OP is about whether you would have taken the senario in the OP before he start of the season? How is that dressing anything up?

Before the start of the Season and despite his wealth not knowing what to expect from a new owner with the club starting on -10 points with Mark Wotte I never would have imagined we would appoint a Manager of Alan Pardews standard, never thought we would cherry pick some of the leagues best players let alone others from the CCC and above. I didn't even give a trip to Wembley or the possibility of a Trophy a thought or a decent progression in the FA Cup that would see us meet Pompey facing a crisis of their own, also giving a good account of ourselves despite the result, and hoped at best we could achieve a mid table position for this season which at the least we do currently have.

Of course, and despite not expecting even half of the above I'm still dissappointed that it does not look as if we will reach the play off's this season but looking back I never expected half the fun I've had supporting Saints this season and like myself have spoken to many other Saints fans who have also mentioned how much they have enjoyed watching them this season, more so than in recent years.

So, if we don't quite reach the play off's and go up this season as at least 3rd best in the league, I can't wait until next season where I will of course have the expectation of us to being a much more solid team doing so much better and hopefully going up as Champions instead, something we were never going to be close to achieving this Season.

As for the rest of this one, I'm looking forward to a day out at Wembley, hopefully finishing with a trophy whilst still hoping we may have a shot still at the play off's too but if not... already I cannot wait for next season to begin after what we have achieved so far in a such a short space of time in a season that began with so much disruption.

We aren't forever going to make that our excuse for losing to the skates, are we?

I have had a blast this season home and away we have our club in safe ambitious hands decent Manager excellent squad for this level we are stable and going forward we have also been treated to some great performances and a cup final.

If offered that at the start of the season we would have been chuffed to bits when you look at the blue few we are in a very good place

Read the OP..........

Have you enjoyed yourself this year SS ? No sly dig or twist on post intended, just an honest question in line with how I read the OP

I for one I am actually enjoying my football again and would happily have taken all scenarios mentioned.

For now - thats good enough.

Next season - aspirations will be totally different but hopefully I will still be enjoying it.

I have enjoyed the JPT, but its pretty worthless.

But then i went to Swindon and to Wycombe, so my travels have been like nailing my helmet to a burning building.

Its easy to aspire to something, more difficult to achieve it

Year isnt finished yet....mathematically we can still go down... ;)

I suppose this is something like MarkSFC was trying to point out, on the other thread. Absent mindedly, Skintsaint has fallen into the trap of seeing only the negative. Yes, mathematically Saints can go down, but also they can go up. It would be nice if people could point out the pros as well as the cons.

Maybe if you had gone to Oldham, Charlton, Carlisle, Bristol Rovers, Southend, Orient, Hartlepool, Wallsall you might have enjoyed the season a bit more?

League one clubs can never realistically win the FA Cup or League Cup, its rewards are basically revenue related. The JPT is really the only Silverware we can fight for at this level. Sure its the lowest of the 3 but its not worthless?

Good OP & agree 100% with it. The main thing for me this season is we have hope & aspirations again & I'm enjoying that fact. Nothing is ever assured in football, I've always expected us to miss out on the play-off's. And the cup runs have given the season a little extra feel good factor, and Wembley is a bonus, so their is plenty to be happy about, compared to this time last year. Lets just hope we can finish the season on a great run & put down a strong marker for next season.
