Saints V Orient Post Match Reaction Thread

We were really off-colour today, esp. Morgan who didn't look fully fit to me - he was giving the ball back to Orient at every opportunity.

Lallana won us that game through his endeavor, enthusiasm and quality - it was like a one man show at times. Well done adam.

At the end of the day, 3 points are all that matters at this stage of the season - but we really did get out of jail with that performance today.

Pards did look pretty exasperated on the touchline after we gave the ball away for the 99989th time, that dressing room wouldn't have been much fun at HT.

anyway - a wins a win, it's always good to pickup a win when you don't perform, it shows you have something about you as a team.

Just back from the game.

Gosh. How on Earth did we win that?! Quite possibly because Orient were as poor as us!

The good news is.....we can't possibly play any worse than that for the rest of he season ergo we should win every game from here on in.

Easy!

Btw, before Adam scored his two goals I was thinking that we could do with cloning him 10 times....he was a class above the other 21 layers on the pitch

What an awful performance.

Think we might be caught out by Charlton next game.

One thing that is really annoying me about this team is Seabourne, all he does is hoof the ball - Awful football which wouldn't work against a better side.

To be fair it wasn't just Seabourne, Fonte was equally as guilty but in their defence there seemed to be a lack of options in front of them.

Wasn't there, but if we played as badly as people make out then I quite pleased (and relieved) that we won the game. As obvious as that sounds, to play poorly and see moments of quality win us the game gives us a good platform that we can feel we are never out of a game no matter if things aren't going for us on the pitch.

I've seen too many performances over the years where we don't ever look like doing anything simply because the players don't believe.

I was working and a very faint radio was on, in the distance, so I could just about get the gist of things. From what I heard we certainly scraped that one, without dominating in any way. How's Jaidi, and how did he come to be injured..? Lallana produced a bit of magic too..?

Was there a touch of new manager effect..?

Jaidi will miss Charlton and Bristol Rovers according to Pardew. Lallana's first goal was pure quality.

We played far better at Brighton on Thursday but there the loan striker meant that possession didn't turn into goals. Today, Saints seemed to have trouble keeping the ball, maybe the presence of Scowcroft in the Os midfield made a difference, but at least the two strikers gave the midfield something to aim at, and kept some of the game up field. I just hope this display doesn't make Pardew go back into his defensive shell.

Three comments about Brighton losing today - (1) they were missing about 3 players who played against Saints last week; (2) If football was that predictable would any of us be as interested! (3) I wish we had the two points dropped at Brighton by playing 4-5-1 for 75 minutes.

Lambert was interested at all, Hammond was anonymous, Puncheon was crap, and the right back doesn't tackle. I'd rather Lloyd James was brought back in.

Davis - 7 - Not Much to do.

Semi - 6 - Bit meh.

Fonte - 6 - Struggled with Scowcroft

Seabourne - 6 - Can tell he's only ever played in L1. Always went for the safe option, HOOF

Harding - 7 - Got forward, not really tested today.

Puncheon - 5 - Ineffective. Corners are poor as well.

Hammond - 6 - Not at his best.

Schneiderlin - 5 - Clearly not fit, kept passing to Orient players.

Lallana - 9 - He'll be gone in the summer then!

Lambert - 6 - Worst i've seen him play, just didn't look interested.

Barnard - 7 - Must feel ****, knowing he'll be taken off every game.

BAd day at the office, but hopefully got it out of our system after the hype and elation of the last week.

Losing Jaidi so early was a massive blow, Seaborne is OK as a sweeper but all he can do is hoof it clear. Morgan was well below par, as was Puncheon, although to be fair he did set up both goals so he can be forgiven.

Otsemobor was a worry, kept giving the ball away in dangerous positions. HArding not too bad without being great. Deano worked hard. Lambert did very wll considering he was always being marked by at least two Os players, won most headers, and set Lallana up for the second. Lallana a class above everyone else on the pitch.

Fair play really to LO, came to have a go and have a good go they did. So, bad performance, but 3 more points in the bag. Onwards ans upwards.

Just back...

Came out of the ground and the first think I said to my old man was "that was a **** game". But we won and won ugly so we shouldnt complain! At least when we were under pressure we didnt make any suicidal mistakes like we would have done in the past, so thats a plus.

Must play better against Charlton or we'll get smoooooshed.

Scowcroft gave us so many problems, however why is it when an opposing defender climbs all over RL virtually all game , the free kick goes to the defender. However ,when

similar challenges come in on Scowcroft from Fonte, all the free kicks go to the forward.

The game itself,we won playing extremely poorly, basically when one player plays

badly so do the other 10. Great first goal from AL, but we will have to play much, much better to beat Charlton.

What sort of "mention" ?

I think the direct quote was "Alpine, Glasgow Saint and fat Stu Romsey Saint stick that in your pipe and smoke it".

Don't shoot the messenger. I did almost drive off the M271 when I heard it. Probably 99% of the listeners had no idea what it was about.

Lets be honest, we werent very good today, thankfully Orient are awful, and most likely going down. MAIN THING, 3 points and enough of the results continue to go our way. If we win our last 7 im sure it'll be enough. We'll up our game for Charlton and beat them, the key game of the season will be Rovers away...if we win that we might just have a chance of pulling of a little miracle. ( By that i dont mean giving hand pleasure to Theo Walcott).

How did you hear ? I am sceptical, but if it is true, then AP is losing his grip.

If it is true then I doubt AP knows - if he finds out and then doesn't do anything about it then he would be losing his grip. But a) it may not be true and b) if it is then will he would discipline those involved.

A non-story so lets keep positive, we won :)

Not so a positive sign if the rumour on this thread about several players having a late night last night is true.

Do you think today's win was positive? Just checking as you seem to have bypassed this and are just looking at a rumoured negative again.

They was referring to those three as they have nothing good to say about Saints.

It was very funny indeed as I have it recorded on my iPhone.

Well - 3 points is 3 points no matter how badly you play and forget how to pass it to your own team mates.

Also lol'd at the radio mention (wasn't my text either!)

Kinda Lallana's goal here but he shot from so far out....

And who took the shot / cross that nearly went in?

I'd wager it was a shot :)

Have heard that several players were up late last night..............................................................

That would certainly explain the lackluster performance (Lallana aside). Lambert seemed unable (unwilling?) to chase the ball at times....

I thought Hammond played ok and was one of our better players today. He reminds me of Glen ****erill.

Scrappy win. Would never have a game like like that last year or even at th ebeginning of this for that matter - progress of sorts! Lallana was quality, worst I've Spiderpig play - even Wottons passing was better than his! Don't think Seaborne hoofs it any more than Jaidi to be honest and it does at least normally stay in play. That said, he does needtalking through the game and Fonte can only help that. About the third game in a row Puncheon's been poor which is a worry to me, would have removed him instead of Barnard to be far. On Sat Charlton will be here to win and as long as we turn up at the beginning of the game we should havea bloody good chance of winning it and possibly be within 5 points of the play-offs. Keep the dream alive boys!!

I was sat there at st Marys and Alpines comment from the build up thread just kept poping into my head. To quote Alpine

Couldnt give a sh*t about the score or manner of performance.

Wasn't one of the teams better days a nightmare opening six miniutes. The goal came about as both Jaidi and Fonte missed headers (and they doesn't happen to often) and then Jaidi limped off after a nothing challenge. 1st half we were awful apart from Adams wonder goal (considering in the warm up before the match he couldn't even get a shot on target). Having praised Morgan for the last few weeks he was shocking today only piped to the post for worse player by the light weight that is Puncheon. Puncheon really flaters to decieve he makes some exciting little runs that look great but then you realize they don't actually achieve anything.

To many of our players where second to the ball today the Orient players where out to impress I think, as the battled for everything and didn't give up on lost causes something our players seemed only to happy to do.

AP was really getting ****ed off on the touch line gave Kelvin a right mouthful after one of his kicks went straight out of play. The orient players were out much earlier for the second half I think ours where getting a right gobful from AP

We where better in the second half but not outstanding. Highlight of the second half was watching Wotton actually complete a cross field pass to one of our players, worth the price of admission alone:D adama second goal was good. Adam really was the standout player today must of quite enjoyed the chants of Adam Lallanna echoing around the ground.

Just thought I'd say that Hammond was actually alright, it was Schneiderlin that was poor, he gave them the ball back a countless number of times. He looked a shadow of his former self. Anyway, Lallana saved our bacon today.

Btw Lambert was ok, played quite a few good passes, but looked knackered and lacked appetite it seemed.

An off day all round for the starting XI with the exception of Lallana - when will Saints actually wake up the moment the match begins!

Before Orient scored inside 90 seconds, they could already have been 1 up!

Following the goal, Orient just stuck everyone behind the ball and allowed Saints to try and pass their way through the block of 9, sometimes 10 players.

Puncheon's corners were woeful with always hitting the first man, but credit where it was due, his quick switch of play and cross contributed to both Lallana's goals (as did Lambert's header for No.2).

Regarding the subs, Seaborne always has one or two lapses of concentration a game, but I am sure that will cease given time. Paul Wotton again also causes some moments of panic, with his aimless headed clearances. Antonio again looked raw, some good bursts and some poor ones...
