MK Dons Postponed

I've always been restless on fixture-less weekends but of course, in these circumstances it is totally, absolutely understandable. It seems absolutely fitting therefore that the next fixture will be at home - so we can give the great man a deserved send off.

Nice to see some compassion in football. Huge respect to MK Dons for this.

And the Football League of course. Considering our recent relationship with them they could have stuck the middle digit up at this request.

Also a little surprised at this decision. Is this normal convention ??

Personally don't agree with the game being postponed, I think it should have gone ahead, bit of an over the top reaction. Just depends I guess on how close Pardew and the team felt to ML?

Over the top? Are you sure?

By the way, your location? Whats the meaning?

Absolute madness. He would have wanted us to crack on and get three points. Black arm bands, and then a one minute silence at the next home game would have sufficed. Just creates a more unsettling atmosphere for the players. Ridiculous.

Am I the only one who thinks postponing the game could be a bit of an over-reaction? Is Liebherr construction downing tools for a day as well? Why not go ahead with the game and have a minute of clapping, as is now customary?

I'm not 'trolling'.

No refund on the train tickets then?

I tend to agree but perhaps his funeral maybe taking place that day.

I am pleased the games is off as I felt that there was a possibility that we would not win as we had beaten them 4 out of 4 last season

What do you consider "out of hand"?

I think it's very sad and respects should be paid, but there is a tendency in sad situations like this for people to go over the top for someone who none of us actually knew personally and was only here for a year. Sad yes, but IMO some of the suggestions are slightly over the top.

I understand Saints request to MK Don and as he said he recently lost his father.

It would have been good to have played on saturday but I suspect the club and players are clearly a united team and will be equally hurting. Just look at the team huddle after the cherries game

on a positive note it does give our injured players a bit more time to get fully fit. Sir Ricky for instance. Thats a positive note for having the game postponed

Not sure that is the only reason. It is much more fitting for our next game to be a home game to allow people to pay their respects.

Let's also not forget that administration wise there is now a very complexed probate issue to sort out... maybe they also needed time to get on top of things regarding that and don't need the distraction of an away game? There are not many 'sole owners' in UK football and very few if any, that have ever suddenly passed away... none of us know how much work is involved behind the scenes.

Good call I say, and hope for a sell-out against Leyton Orient.

We don't know that TBF.

No refund and I can't get to MK for any stupid midweek rearranged game.

The more I think about it, the more I think that this is an over the top Princess-Diana's-death-style reaction. It's very sad that he has died, but it's nowhere near as sad as Exeter striker Adam Stansfield's death of bowel cancer at the aged of just 31. I bet they are going ahead with their game on Saturday.

Those are my thoughts too, but you will probably get crucified for that!

We don't know that TBF.

We know he was healthy enough to be meeting fans etc in Switzerland less than a month ago... and there was no suggestion that he was in seriously bad health.

Regardless of this, probate is an issue for a normal individual, let alone one of the richest men in Europe. There is only so much planning you can do for death...

... and yes, shock horror, this is me sticking up for the club.

Fair enough... I just can't see any suggestion as of yet that has been too wayward. Obviously, no-one wants us to go "all Liverpool" but I honestly can say, and maybe I am speaking for a few others here, that I have never once felt this enormous amount of feeling and emotion and need for a fitting tribute to any of the club's previous custodians. I guess with Ted Bates, I didn't feel connected as it wasn't my era. With Alan Ball, I was tinged with sadness. But for Markus, and for what he'd done for us in such a short space of time... well, I just hope we can find a fitting resolution and tribute that we, the fans, the club and his family all agree on.

I think, like many, feel obliged that his contribution should never be forgotten.

Good reply from a poster who is always fair. I agree with you, perhaps we should consult his family to decide on what tribute he would feel is best. It could be if he knew he was dying that he just asked to carry on as normal with no big tribute. Personally, the person I am I just find people crying a bit over the top.

Exeter and Dag&Red are still deciding whether their game should go ahead - decision to be made later today.

Personally, I think they should call it off, allowing Exeter to play their next game, like Saints, at home.

Thanks hypo.

I have to say that I'm not one who does "grief" for grief's sake but feel genuinely quite down about what has happened. Still shocked this morning, to be absolutely honest with you.

Personally, I would imagine Markus would have liked us to carry on as we were, that just appears to be the selfless nature of the man. However, there are so many quite cut up now about it (let alone his family, friends and those who are connected with the club) and it just seems right that we have a period of reflection, then perhaps a consultation with the club, family, friends and fans to decide what would be the best, most fitting tribute to the ML.

At the very least, we get to play our next home game at SMS so that we can provide some form of public send-off. It's a small gesture, but it's a start. Personally, I'd love for his name and his legacy and memory to be passed down from generation to generation, never to be forgotten.

I guess in situations like this you cannot always accurately account for everyone's feelings and opinions. I'm certainly not someone to go all mushy but I cannot help but think what would have happened had Markus not bailed us out and given us a completely fresh start.

People like to express grief in different ways. You'd do well to respect that.

I'm sure the match tickets will be refunded, but do you really think Saints are going to refund my train ticket? Thirty quid is thirty quid, but that's not really the point. Do you think employees in other parts of Liebherr's business have downed tools for the day to remember him? I don't know the answer, but I do think postponing a football match three days after a club owner's death is an over-reaction. A minute of silence or clapping would be a fine tribute.

Yep I agree with that. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall us cancelling a match when Ted died. He had been associated with us over 60 years and everyone knew him! Strange decision.
