Andy_Porter Posted 26 August, 2010 Share Posted 26 August, 2010 Doom and gloom, we will lose them all etc etc etc Honestly positive about all of those games, wouldn't be at all suprised if we end up winning five or six of them. Swindon away will probably be the toughest, they seem to be a bit of a dodgy side for us. Looking forward to getting back to winning ways on Saturday, I think a trip away from St Marys and the pressure that brings will be good for the players. S-Clarke Posted 26 August, 2010 Share Posted 26 August, 2010 Rochdale will be very tricky. They looked fantastic against birmingham tonight, only lost because of a non-penalty.- but i fancy us in the away games as we won't have some much pressure on us in the ground, i expect our setup to exploit the home team. I agree. Plus, teams are much more unlikely to sit behind the ball and play for a draw when their in front of their own fans, who want entertainment, so this should open the game up a lot more and therefore suit us better. The Old Codger Posted 27 August, 2010 Share Posted 27 August, 2010 But its playing much worse as a team. No way will we put 5 goals past Rovers, for example. "its"? Saints are NOT playing 'much worse' as a team. Far from it. For once, you have completely shown your lack of understanding through your self-inflicted exile. Those who have watched the games have seen how well we have played (and how well opposition goalkeepers have played). We may not put 5 past Rovers, but surely its the 3 points that matter? Good grief Alpine - you wonder why people say you don't have a valid viewpoint if you don't go to matches, and normally I would agree that anyone who supports Saints has an opinion as valid as the next person - but you are just trolling for a reaction EVERY time. (and this time you got one! - happy now?) How you haven't been banned permanently from this site, I don't know.

tartanowl Posted 27 August, 2010 Share Posted 27 August, 2010 In our next 7 matches I'm hoping for 4 wins and 1 draw which would put us on 20 points after 10 games. Looking at our fixtures I think it's doable. You ideally will want to be on around about the same which would be 6 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. If we keep that up over the season we'll finish in the top 2. You are right that if we end up with only 12 points from the first 9 AP will be under big pressure. I think you are being unnecessarily pessimistic in predicting only 11 points from thses 7 matches. I can see us getting 14 or 15 points myself with the predictions above. In fact that is the standard that we need to maintain through the season if we are going to be promoted. madruss Posted 27 August, 2010 Share Posted 27 August, 2010 But its playing much worse as a team. No way will we put 5 goals past Rovers, for example. No it's not. Compare the first 30 minutes of the Huddersfield game (where we won 5-0) to the start of the LO game this year. In my opinion we played a lot better in the LO game and created the better chances, but we didn't score more than 1 and then we conceded. Whereas in the Huddersfield game we did score more than one, and managed not to concede. The resulting confidence that came from a 2 goal cushion meant that the rest of the game was a lot more comfortable, as there was less pressure to force the winning goal. We're not playing worse than last season, we just aren't getting the goals at the crucial times..big difference

I really struggle to understand the mentality of getting rid of the manager 1 minute after the season starts. When are people going to realize that the manager can only put his best team out on the pitch. But its not only that, you are actually pre-empting that if things go slightly bad in the next 7 games, then Lets sack the Manager. How negative can a person be? Best case W4 D2 L1 .... gives 16 points from 9 games.... would put us in the top half but would it be enough? Absolute worst case W2 D2 L3 ..... 10 points from 9 games ... bye, bye AP? jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 27 August, 2010 Share Posted 27 August, 2010 Have saints actually deserved to lose so far this season? It is a rhetorical question because the answer is NO. I actually think defensively we are looking ok. We are starting to see that creative spark again just need that killer touch in front of goal. I see playing 5 out of 7 away as a positive thing in that we will play with less pressure, less expectations and against less defensive teams. If we can get run of wins under our belt the confidence will be sky high and we can make SMS a fortress again like we did for most of last season. I agree I think we have played well in places if were not creating chances I would be worried but we are should have won both games. We have been off the pace a bit but I was impressed at how we played against Bolton if we can play like that we will be back in the mix in no time. Last season -10 and a good awful start and we still would have finished 3rd it is a marathon not a sprint we will hit form soon on the eviedence v Bolton we could easily win 5 or 6 of the next seven games lets see where we are after 10 games then we might have a view on how we are going to do
