Didcot Saint Posted 29 October, 2010 Share Posted 29 October, 2010 Had a feature on Brighton and Bournemouth being first and second in the League which as results suggest is deserved. They did however omit to say that we have already beaten The Cherries twice and have the highest average attendance in the League. And I reckon we will still finish higher than both of them. Come on Saints, there is definetly only one team on the South Coast!

The Kraken Posted 29 October, 2010 Share Posted 29 October, 2010 I fail to see the problem with the coverage. Poyet has done a very good job with Brighton and, with their stadium on the way, they could even push for the Premier League. And Eddie Howe has done an incredible job at Bompey, just remarkable considering the lack of resources. Lets hope we can make it a South Coast hat-trick of promotions from League 1, that would be a decent news story.

Come on Saints, there is definetly only one team on the South Coast! Well they are the two top teams in the league right now why would they comment on Saints at that point? If Saints were top (and been beaten by Bournemouth twice) and Brighton 2nd how would you feel if they (the BBC) then say, in the same report "oh by the way bournemouth, who are 14th in the league, have beaten Saints twice"? Can't see Saints finishing above both Brighton and Bournemouth to be honest. Another big test for Saints at the end of the month when we play Brighton at home. You win leagues by winning games not how many fans you have. The "we get X amount at home / take X away argument" is only used by the fans of big teams that are underperforming. Didcot Saint Posted 29 October, 2010 Author Share Posted 29 October, 2010 fair comment. Just annoys me that's all. Nothing wrong with being passionate about Saints being the biggest club in the area! Good luck to both of them.

Another big test for Saints at the end of the month when we play Brighton at home. this time last season I doubt many could see Norwich or anyone finishing above Leeds and Leeds had a much better team than Brighton do. Both Brighton and Bournemouth will fade. Think BHA will be top 6 but Bournemouth won't. We will finish top two!

I don't think Bournemouth have enough to sustain a promotion challenge; certainly not from what I saw in both games against us. But Brighton seem to be the class team of the division, and in Poyet have an excellent manager. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see them go up, hopefully in second behind us (though we need to get our arses in gear, sharpish).

I'm sure it won't last especially to key players and performing at their current level for all 46 games will result in 99 points!! That would make them better than Norwich were last year and they are nowhere near. They'll end up on early 80's.

We'll see, I guess, but I've been impressed with what I've of seen them and keep hearing other teams that have played them say they're the best they've played. Calderon's goal from right back last week was excellent and highlighted an area of play we don't have, full backs who are able to properly push on and become a scoring threat. I thought Dickson and/or Richardson may provide that, but for alternative reasons that hasn't happened.

The Bournemouth team and set up have enough about them to get into the top 6 & make the play-offs. Everyone said exactly the same last season and look what they have done. Just a damned shame they'll be wound up before the Cheats
Tamesaint Posted 29 October, 2010 Share Posted 29 October, 2010 Solent now feature Saints behind Pompey and Bompey. They talk Pompey first and then cover Bournemouth before featuring us. I suppose that they justify this on the basis of league positions .... but as only 6,000 people can be bothered to go and watch Bournemouth each week and 20,000 plus go to see us there must be a large number of people who feel peeved at having to wait behind Bournemoth to get their team's news. Harding scored three last year including a screamer against someone (can't remember who know though) Calderon has scored four goals since 2007 so he is hardly some sort of free scoring rightback. IMO backs should be concentrating on defending rather than scoring.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 29 October, 2010 Share Posted 29 October, 2010 Meridian have always leaned towards the Skates and South Today have always leaned towards Reading. Surprising really considering Saints have always been the best supported team on the south coast.

Chorlton Posted 29 October, 2010 Share Posted 29 October, 2010 I rarely watch South Today, but caught a few minutes on Wednesday or Thursday. Brighton or Cherries fans may have been wondering what on Earth the point was of the feature they showed about Ngel Adkins having been in the job 6 weeks and how he was expecting us to do well. They may well have also wondered what would be the point of a feature saying that they are both doing well, but Bmouth have lost to Saints twice and both sides have smaller attendances. It is a regional magazine show and nothing to get worried about. If we manage to win promotion, then I am sure they will jump on the bandwagon. If you ever look at Cherries or Skates forums, they will both say that Meridian, BBC & Solent are all biased towards us. I don't really watch or listen to any of them but I am sure they are all pretty fair I have had wine and I am Mr Reasonable tonight.
LostBoys Posted 30 October, 2010 Share Posted 30 October, 2010 South Today are a joke - with the obnoxious Sally Taylor and the other condescending twerp who was always banging on about the wonderful things at Fratton Park - then they went bust. Bensfcno1 Posted 30 October, 2010 Share Posted 30 October, 2010 I couldnt afford today, so went to bmuf (free tickets), I was very bored. Bmuf played some neat football but never really looked like creating much. Col Utd looked halve the team defensively to when they played at St Marry's. They were just stronger and more experienced than the cherries in the end. Makes me wonder how much of a boost players have when teams play us. I was also dissapointed with the atmosphere and attendance, We took over a 3rd of their home att to Nottingham today!

In the eyes of many L1 clubs we are still a big scalp with a s****y stadium and good attendance. I am sure many teams raise their game at SMS and when they play us at their own ground.
