Dimond Geezer Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 I've been asked by a Man U fan on another forum I waste my working day on (not a footy one), if Alan Shearer scored the winner for Saints in a FA Cup match at Old Trafford. I don't have a copy of ITN to hand, and I struggle to remember who scored for us last week, never mind 20-odd years ago. Can anyone help, or post up a linky thing to somewhere that might be able too. Cheers-me-dears. DG
Colinjb Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 I believe that MLT got a winner in what turned out to be Ron Atkinson's last game in charge of Man Utd. I think that was in the cup.

I think I recall that game. MLT came on as a young sub, scored twice in a 4-1 demolition and Atkinson got sacked? The league cup I believe as it was an evening game. SaintBobby Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 If I remember rightly, in the Branfoot era c.1992, we drew 2-2 at Old Trafford and went on to win on penalties. Shearer scored at least one of the two Saints goals. I think Tim Flowers saved the critical penalty (from Ryan Giggs?)
shurlock Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 (edited) we beat them on pens after a 2-2 draw (think shearer got one that night, so they weren't technically winners). the fixture will always be remembered for flowers save of giggs pen. Edited 10 January, 2011 by shurlock memory failing me - gray, not shearer, got the other goal
oldsarum Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 Thought he scored one of the goals (Stuart Gray scored the other) when we drew 2-2 at Old Trafford in FA CUP replay, when we then went on to beat them on penalties and Timmy Flowers ran the length of field to Saints fans top celebrate

I think it was a 4th round game and we went on to play Norwich. I went to the replay at Carrow Road and despite the fact we lost it was one of the most memorable away days I've been to. Saint Samuel Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 I remember Le Tiss saying in his book that Alex Ferguson owes him because he helped give Atkinson the sack, which led to Ferguson getting the job.

Stood behind the goal that MLT put 2 into; could have sworn it was The Archers though. Maybe my old memory aint what it used to be?

paulwantsapint Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 Know that MLT was gutted that flowers saved Giggs pen as it denied MLT his hero pen in only game that went to pens in his career

jasonb Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 I won that blue kit in a competition run by the club shop - IIRC the comp was along the lines of... "tell us how we could improve the club shop." I filled in the comp questionnaire without a thought about winning when low-and-behold my mum takes a phone call saying I had won. I had to be at the club shop before the home game when that kit went on sale to be presented with the kit by.... JIMMY CASE!!! My hero at the time... I could barely speak to him when I was having photos etc. I remember him saying he wasn't sure about the kit personally because it would clash with the spectators - something like that anyway. Happy days... great player Case - great guy too. So even though it's blue I have a soft spot for that kit. Didn't we wear that kit in the ZDS final too????
