Personally I didn't think it was a great game. Far too nerve-wracking to enjoy, and the quality of football was appalling. Two bad teams who couldn't defend to save their lives. Wouldn't mind seeing the Camara goal again though. One of the best celebrations at SMS ever after that one

It's weird. I was at that game and it didn't register as all that at the time and wouldn't even get close to my top ten Saints games . Celebrated the winner as I would any late goal, but nothing special. And a week or two later, I barely celebrated when Higginbottom got that late goal against Palace. If we had got a winner at Selhurst, then I may have gone a bit silly.

Agreed 100%. The 4-3 against Birmingham in the Championship the season we made the play offs was better and is probably the best game I have ever seen. Incredible end-to-end nerve shredding action from start to finish, right down to the last second when DJ Campbell was clean through from a punt by their keeper that should have been cut out by Lundekvam but headed just over the bar with Davis stranded. Davis and Baird proceeded to grab each other round the throat.

The noise when Camara scored the 4th was the loudest I've heard at SMS, absolutely electric atmosphere and one of the best home games I've seen.

Funny that Norwich would be strong contenders for the best home and away games for me. (midweek cup replay at Carrow Road 1992 - amazing atmosphere that night).

Remember that game so well. I remember going one nil down actually crying thinking this is the end and then going balistic with Oakleys leveller. Never forget that feeling when Camera scored. Also remember that equaliser at Palace, running run the house thinking its not over yet. All for nothing in the end though.

When it went to 3-3 there was a bloke down in front of us who stood up then started waving everyone around to their feet which then spread as others caught on so the noise level went up. When that goal went in, Wow what a rush of emotions coupled with an immense noise. I recall threads at the time saying that the roar could be heard from Above bar and other places away from the ground.

Someone said that one of the reporters or researchers on Radio 5 had never been to game live before and she was blown away by the whole game and the noise, leaving her totally hooked.

edit: Just realised that the score was already stationary at 3-3 when the chap stood up it was probably the fact that we were into that dangerous final 10 minute capitulation time that drove him to whip things up................................ funny how time can blur the edges of memory. (I remember us beating Liverpool at home 3-2 in the early days of our return to the top flight I thought it was 78-79 but it appears not!?).

It went 3-3 in the last minute of the first half didn't it? So this bloke got everyone up all through halftime and right through the entire second half? :?

I was at the game but I remember the MOD highlights later - they commented on the noise level going mad about one minute before Camara scored and said something like "just listen to the noise - incredible. there is still time for either team to win this and whoever does, the roof is going to come off". Cue Camara about 45 seconds later. I remember after the final whistle that very few of the crowd left, people were dancing to the music, hugging, jumping. Amazing atmosphere.

I remember this. It was really strange. There was a roar from the Itchen North that just spread right accross the whole of the ground. Noone was giving up and then suddenly Camera scored and I celebrated like never before. The noise was incredable. That atmosphere was amazing!!!

I would love to see the MOTD highlights

Exactly - so one minute before Camara scored - not just as the score went to 3-3 just before halftime.....anyway - moot point, now corrected by poster :).

Shame it was all to no avail at the end of the season.

I remember that equaliser at Palace as well, they were already chucking a few things at us, I was right next to the wall alongside the exit walkway at the back of the stand, never been so glad of the 10 foot drop to the floor that existed between two sets of fans.

The Norwich winner from Camara, following 5-10 minutes of increasing roar, was absolutely the most intense St Mary's has ever been. I didn't even go that mental when I opened the scoring there at the first Forum game. ;)

Cheers for that, (and a relief for the grey matter) I was close just got my early matches of a season skewed. What sticks out for me from that particular game was we were going well and Liverpool being the giants they were in those days were building up a head of steam for the equaliser. You knew when the 90 were up at The Dell from the clock. But despite no one being assassinated in the second half the ref just kept the game going and going as Liverpool kept knocking and knocking. After what felt like 5 or 6 minutes, someone from under the west stand could take it no more and ran onto the pitch to remind the ref to look at his watch and blow for time.

Sorry to deviate from the original thread.
