saintjay77 Posted 13 March, 2011 Share Posted 13 March, 2011 That means if saints player want to offer a paid commentary service they will have to provide their own. Might make it worth paying for instead if paying for the BBC service!
paulwantsapint Posted 13 March, 2011 Share Posted 13 March, 2011 I fear it will lead to a twitter only commentary Although I could agree to a bbc service that means 5live streamed whenever there is no saints game
Saintandy666 Posted 13 March, 2011 Share Posted 13 March, 2011 It's just a proposal. The BBC are floating lots of proposals at the moment including not showing Wimbledon anymore! BUT, most of them will not happen, I suspect a large degree of these very public proposals are a way of pressurising the government a little bit following the licence fee freeze which is effectively a massive cut. Professor Posted 13 March, 2011 Share Posted 13 March, 2011 The loss of local radio would be a major blow, not just for Saint's commentaries, but across the board. This Governmemnt will stop at nothing to kill off public services and although they say its just to clear the deficit does anyone seriously believe that they will restore public services once the budget is balanced? No, then the priority will be to reduce taxes for the rich. The Culture Minister, Jeremy * U N T was asked this morning on the Andrew Marr Show if it was true that the BBC would be encouraged to cut local radio and he simply refused to answer. Marr let him get away with it, which was very weak, but unless people kick up a fuss, it looks like Radio Solent is under threat.

Professor Posted 13 March, 2011 Share Posted 13 March, 2011 does the government decide BBC policy now..? Have you noticed who has just been appointed Chairman of the BBC Trust? Independent of course, but just happens to be such a committed conservative that not only is he a former MP and cabinet minister, he's also a past chairman of the party - but independent of course. Lallana's Left Peg Posted 13 March, 2011 Share Posted 13 March, 2011 I would hate for clubs to manage their own commentary for matches. If you think local stations are a tad biased now, the thought of clubs being in charge of how their club is portrayed in match commentary is concerning. I agree entirely. I would trust Patten more than some Tories but I fail to see how he is independent. I do not understand why the BBC licence has to be cut. Taxes apparently have to rise and services cut because the Government has no money - but the supposedly independent BBC funded by the TV licence also has to be cut. Why??? Saintandy666 Posted 13 March, 2011 Share Posted 13 March, 2011 are the BBC going to cut the tax they charge us all then..? By freezing it for 5 years and making the BBC directly pay for the World Service Radio they have handed a massive cut to the BBC budget.

But I'm guessing he would just trot out the line that 'nothing has been decided yet' again and again. The only thing I agreed with was that the BBC '"should not be in a race to the bottom". I'm sure BBC 3 was set up as a channel dedicated to weaning off Morons from the main BBC channels, but has failed with BBC1 now just as bad. Much like How the Bowling/Cinema comlex in Eastleigh hasn't reduced the number of Chavs in Southampton by any great number.
