Micky Posted 20 May, 2011 Share Posted 20 May, 2011 Ohhh no, not this again - didn't SRS go off on this some time ago on this board - I seem to remember a thread about the ad space or something like that. For what it's worth I really don't take notice of ads if I go to a game - they really hold no interest whatsoever. However, when I was watching the Posh v MKD match yesterday it did strike me that now we have HD, the advertisements are much more accessible to TV audiences. I just wondered if that is now reflected in the price of pitchside/stadia ad space. All of that said - do the ads interest me - not one iota...! Stop dragging your knuckles for a minute and consider that less advertising means less revenue for the club, which means less revenue available for the fun bits like buying players etc etc. But your not bothered if the clubs revenues are down from that area of business? I just wondered if that is now reflected in the price of pitchside/stadia ad space. All of that said - do the ads interest me - not one iota...! Think the pitchside hoardings are £4k each IIRC - although I cant remember if that is for a month or the whole season. On logic, £4k for a season would be too cheap... so it may work out as £2k a match (assuming 2x Saturdays at 3pm). The HD this is a very good point though! The 360 degree- all round the pitch ones used in the Champions League are very eye catching on the TV. If the SFC branding bods are about, the only thing that irritates me - whenever we get a corner, i look up to check the time, but I dont get it, it get an advert instead. Gets me everytime (great, the bods think)... but its not, because I associate the ads with being irritated! Nick and co over on the UI are "worried" about the apparent "bad business practice" going on at SMS Maybe Nick should keep his mouth shut, maybe stick a big old Wembley SILVERSPOON(s) in his mouth to plug the BS up! What a muppet! If I had stung so many Saints fans out of there cash, I would keep a very low profile indeed, not try a preach about bad business practices! Stop dragging your knuckles for a minute and consider that less advertising means less revenue for the club, which means less revenue available for the fun bits like buying players etc etc. But your not bothered if the clubs revenues are down from that area of business? It will come back as the pheonix rises... Its all down to the league were in, exposure and so on. For a lot of companies, they cant justify the expenditure for the exposure. Last season, unfortunately, you would have been better placed at the skates/reading for increase exposure (L1 gets sweet FA!). Also, were in a deep dark recession... if a company is struggling, sponsorship, advertising and so on can often be an easy saving to make. We have the local Merc company and local IT firm AAP3 as our sponsors = this to me shows our marketing practices are A-OK!
Chorlton Posted 20 May, 2011 Share Posted 20 May, 2011 YOu could probably go on the Ugly and question Nick about it as you do have an account on there I believe? He would happily answer you. It is better than moaning about it elsewhere. I think the point he has tried to make is that perhaps the club could increase revenue streams by having more advertising from other sources other than the ones advertising ourselves or the NPower League contracted ones. Mr Cortese did after all say about the club becoming self sufficient. I don't think there is an endless pit of moey to throw at the club by the owners, so surely it would be good business sense? Saint_clark Posted 20 May, 2011 Share Posted 20 May, 2011 There are adverts for Mercedes and Aap3. That's all I can remember. I'd wager there wasn't a single team in league one that sold out all it's advertising slots.
forever a red and white Posted 20 May, 2011 Share Posted 20 May, 2011 A lot of the advertising around the pictch and ground now is anything to do with Saints e.g. the foundation. Personally I think this is sensible. other than the missed revenue elsewhere, its bascially free advertising space for all the clubs products and services, why not use it? plus the benefit of apeearing on tv. For the club to be strong the brand needs to be strong, just like United, soccer schools etc you name it, it all contributes.
iansums Posted 20 May, 2011 Share Posted 20 May, 2011 I've always found it strange how some fans seem to revel in slagging off the club over the slightest little thing. shurlock Posted 20 May, 2011 Share Posted 20 May, 2011 Pointless thread. Pointless subject. Where is the hard evidence that there is a problem? Even if it could be shown we have less advertising, there are 101 financially rational reasons why this might be the case - indeed less advertising might not necessarily mean lower revenue relative other clubs if we then charge more for space, secure longer-term deals etc. But in the absence of evidence, this is just conjecture as is the whole discussion. As pointed out above by iansums, it seems odd that Cortese/club would miss a trick with advertising when he's been more than happy to cut waste and exploit other revenue streams (UI's portrait of NC is frankly schizophrenic - on the one hand, the club under NC is a commercial simpleton; on the other its turned into a cold-blooded revenue-maximising monster that's trampled over the ordinary punter and the spirit of the game- what is it lads?) And why does Dull Days feel it necessary to drag up a discussion that he obviously thinks is b*****ks? Its immaturity and pettiness of the highest order. If he thinks its relevant, fine, feel free to open up a discussion; otherwise man up and mind his own f**king business.

Absolutely hate these - even on TV - just too distracting, should be banned or at best only allowed to display a single 'static' ad image during the game. Half time, fair enough - advertise what you want, but not during the game.

um pahars Posted 20 May, 2011 Share Posted 20 May, 2011 Any self respecting Saints fan has to surely remember the Hildene Angel advert and the strategically placed H and A up The Dell. Dr Who? Posted 21 May, 2011 Share Posted 21 May, 2011 Advertising is very important to the club. There is big money in it, when the game is on tv. Also on a smaller scale we do not have our local paper delivered to us because they cannot pay a paper boy/girl to deliver the paper because of the drop in advertising due to the economy. If you have ever played any management games you will know that advertsing can be the difference between getting that striker to get you promoted to just missing out!! Christ I am bored!!
