We need more than one signing. I would be concerned if we made just one.

tbh we only really need 3 additions. I wouldn't be too bothered if we waited until the end of the transfer window for a couple of them, just as long as we get the right guy.

Yep agree with this. Cm, striker and cb. Also a decent right winger should we sell chamberlain. On a personal level I would like to see us make a decent signing fairly soon so we know what level we can attract and to show ambition.

Reckon current squad would probably be competitive but risks how players step up.

Would be more confident with CM and star pacy forward

I really don't understand this hysteria over CM, Morgan and Chappers what else do you need? Hammond is still here as far as I know and then there are Dickson and Fish who can both play in midfield. As far as I'm concerned what we really need is a decent fast CB to partner Fonte and maybe a striker if none of the 4 or 5 we already have can get the job done.

The same could be said for CB, what with Martin and Seaborne as well as Jaidi to partner Fonte. Do we really need five centre backs? The only reason for that would be if one of Martin or Seaborne are leaving.

Well of course you can look at it that way but as I personally happen to think that Seaborne is a waste of time and space and will be even more cruelly exposed at NPC level; then for me he doesn't even count and Jaidi, well he's about 97 and can't realy handle anything faster than a snail and hoofs the ball forward to boot, that sort of relinquishment of possesion will come at a heavy price next season.

Hold yer squeegees there matey.....Seaborne is NOT a waste of time - far from it, and Martin's an outstanding athlete and an in-demand prospect. I think he will be a superstar CB of the future like Mark Wright once was for us.... Rumours of Jaidis demise are also way exagerated. He is still a model pro and will win headers all day down the middle and who CAN and DOES pass to a guy with the same colour shirt if its on the ground. His experience and know-how are underrated by some - but thankfully not by NA.

I'm keen for us to make a big signing asap, as well.

But, I also think it's a dangerous path to make a signing to "send a message" or "show intent"

If you had watched Saints carefully enough over the past 4 or 5 seasons, you should identify midfield is an area of the pitch which needs urgent surgery (I'm not suggesting you don't watch matches but that comment strikes me as bizarre to even the fickle fan) and under Pardew, questions often came up re: the partnership between Morgan and Hammond, inconsistent and hugely varied to say the least. Also, why does our CB have to be pacey? As long as the defender reads the game as well as Jaidi or Fonte (as any self-respecting centre half should), we will be fine. We do need a replacement akin to Jaidi. I don't think many would beat Jaidi's heading prowess but someone solid in the air and slightly more mobile would be ideal. There are a few out there available.

CM has been an issue which needed addressing long, long ago. Chaplow arriving helped but he lost form slightly. Hammond is a weak link and poor. I don't want to sound patronising because your opinion is your opinion (im my eyes, completely wrong but that's my opinion which you would likely think wrong! LOL) but I equally don't understand the hysteria on this forum which praises Hammond so often. I watch Saints continually and have seen his decent performances but I find him a weak leak and I have seen games where he too often lunges in and gets frustrated (red card risk) and his frist touch is so poor twinned with his passing (misguided more often than not). It annoys me how often Hammond has sloppily passed to oncoming attackers or wingers. He's also painfully slow. He's neither attacking or defensive which nulls his use imho. He's not terrible and he has served a purpose but he's nothing more than a squad player and he is certainly not captain material as his former club preferred.

I agree on the spine of the team comments. If we are not bringing in too many new transfers, stick to the utmost quality in the core 3/4 players. I think this is what we plan to do but it's a waiting game. We need to be patient...

A rock solid bruiser of a [CB], A classy midfield marshall that leads by example [CM] and a pacey, quality forward to compliment Lambert [CF] and vice-versa.

Spot on. Plus one of them a proper leader.

Pretty much completely agree with this. I'm glad someone else has noticed Hammond's red card liability - personally thought he was lucky on a few occassions. I know whether Hammond is good or bad has been done to death on other threads, and I sit somewhere in the middle. Fantastic 3rd choice for me but really would like a replacement. I don't agree that he is 'painfully' slow and one attribute that we would sorely miss would be his tenacity.

We shall see...
