Have you ever wondered if we have done match fixing?

A dangerous topic I agree but it just got me thinking if you thought Saints have done match fixing?

It's not so much as here's *#*# amount of money but more we will loan you a couple of half decent players the following season if you lay down a little.

Over to you?

Beating Newcastle 3-1 at the Dell when we were 1-0 down with seconds to go looked dodgy - especially as Srniceck (sp?) the Newcastle keeper was at fault for all 3 goals.

Still, football does sometimes throw up weird occurences.

Reckon that 0-0 against Spurs to get us both promoted at the expense of Brighton in 78/79 (or was it 77/78?) was definitely one result where both teams came to an agreement. From memory we could have won the league if we had won - and Brighton would have gone up and not Spurs!

but it wasn't fixed it was arranged for mutual benefit. Fixing seems to be for betting purposes. Take the classic case of OM-VA for instance. Tapie didn't buy Valencienne's players to win money from bookies, he bought them to get an easy ride before a Champions League game (or whatever it was called in 1993)

Didn't Grobbelaar get fined for match fixing for games back in the 90'is. Seem to remember some of the games was while he was at Saints. Explains some of the terrible defending going on at times back then.

He let in a very suspect goal playing for us against Liverpool, right in front of the Kop he kind of pretended he thought it was going wide and left it to go in.......

Yep, that was one of the incidents. Also remember some crappy goalkeeping at The Dell vs. Forrest.

Still not as bad as the South Koreans in the 2002 World Cup.

Back in the days when money was tight I often posted tongue in cheek posts insinuating Lowe and Cowen raised funds by betting on Saints games. The back and forward results under Redknapp would often leave me wondering whether the Redknapp and Lampard families were boost the family fortune on our results.

I bet there is loads of spot betting every weekend which you never find out about, and even the odd bit of match fixing.

Certainly quite a few odd results.

I sometimes think refs have laid big on number of cards given by how harsh or lenient they can be.

This.

Whether it was fixed as in both teams coming to an agreement beforehand we'll probably never know. But both teams played the full 90 minutes in a spirit of "a draw suits us, let's not do anything that makes them want to try and beat us"

Bolton also drew 0-0 that day at home to Fulham to stay a point above us (2 pts for a win in those days) so a win would have made us Champions on goal difference. Who knows, maybe both games were "pre-arranged"

The amount of times a ref has had a shocker is amazing. Nothing stops a club approaching him and offering them an extra 100k, it would make my head turn that's for sure.

I remember we played Southend a few years ago and they was already relegated, great atmosphere that day and Saints had to win to stay up.

Southend rolled over (4-0?) but the following season I think they took a couple of our squad players on loan, anyone want to correct me if I'm wrong?

Anyway I reckon that happens a few times at many clubs.

Let's face it, that's the only way QPR are going to stay up.

Not Saints, but the most blatant fix was Everton v Winbledon, finished 3-2. Last game of the season, Everton were in the crap and needed to win. Barry Horne scored from about 150 yards, and Graeme Stuart's winner, from around the penalty box, barely reached the back of the net as it went past Hans Segers. Total stitch-up.

Everton also lost an end of season match 4-1 v Coventry. Everton won the league and the win saved Coventry from relegation.

Can't stand Everton, bent scousers.

Away to Cov in mid 90's. Player was one on one with Grobbelaar and hit it over Brucie's head He got the weakest of touches which just slowed the ball down on it's way to goal. From where I was sitting it looked liked he could've done a much better job. I believe this was one the games that Grobbelaar was accused of match fixing in.
