Now don't get me wrong,I am not a 'supporter'....

But I found this new interview interesting....and eye opening.

His bit from about ten minutes is interesting though and broadly I agree with some of it. I think it's silly though to say it's a number of muslims.

I dreamed last night that I bought a box of chicken and that automatically made me a member of the EDL. I was trying to hide the empty greasy chicken box so nobody would know that I'd become a member even accidentally. Weird. Interpretations please?

That's simply not true. I know of active members one of whom is an accountant and another who runs their own internet company. Neither of them lowlife, not a blemish on their records, nor are they uneducated, both graduates with post grad' qualifications. They simple have had enough of what they perceive as the Islamisfacation of their hometown.

It's alright sitting in your ivory towers on the South Coast but views in the Midland cities is very different as they've borne the brunt of the changes.

I may not like the EDL but only a fool would ignore them and their message certainly resonants with a very large proportion of the population.

They're a bunch of absolute morons that go out onto the streets like that, but comparing them to people that chop others heads off or blow up tube trains full of innocent people is a bit nuts don't you think?

Agreed, they looked like a bunch of yobs drinking and smoking in tracksuits...

Mind you, if some islamic nutters hacked an innocent man to death in broad daylight in my street/neighbourhood, and the edl turned up to 'protect the area' as they seem to do, I would stand beside them as would the people I know in the neighbourhood.

Did any one watch the dispatches last night on Channel 4, The Hunt for Britain's Sex Gangs?

Absolutely horrific what these people are putting children through, not even teenagers, 11 years old FFS:

Dont watch if easily upset or disturbed.

Completely agree. The one's you see bouncing around infront of police lines on tv are idiots, but it's hard not to feel some sympathy with many English folk in East London, Woolwich, Luton, Bradford, Stoke etc.

That's strange. I had a dream that a black man invited me over for fish and chips. I went mental at the invite, but strangely other people went madder than i did, they demanded an apology and went straight to the media who ran a story on racism. It's odd because I really like fish and chips.

The EDL cannot be a racist group as they are campaigning against the religion and extremists, not the race.

I agree, it isn't set up as a racist group. However, their problem is that, as a far right group, they attract right wing extremists, who very often are racists. This gives them the problem that they are characterised by publicly having a large racist following and this damages any more reasonable intent they may have along with their credibility. it's a shame because there is clearly an important issue to be resolved, but it becomes hard to discuss.

I found the bloke in the film to be far more unpleasant and hateful than any Muslims I've met and that would deter me from any sympathy with a group like that. that doesn't mean that I don't see that Islam is having a big struggle with the more extreme side of its membership these days and it was good to see the link from the Spectator further up the page where you could read the comments of more representative Muslims who condemn these people and point out that everything they do is against the Muslim faith.

No seriously that was my dream & I thought - sh*t I'm a closet racist! Who knew? But I like your dream better. Fish and chips is tastier than KFC even in dreams.

By the way, I think George is a knob as well as a self published. He is just good at showing up idiots.

Ah, George. If you only you could separate his political convictions from the ego that puts them about. But then he wouldn't be the same, and I do think we're a bit richer for having him around. Wouldn't vote for him, though.

It does make you wonder if Galloway screens these calls before taking them. All four of these EDL muppets are far too easy to shoot down.

I'd be interested to see Galloway go against the guy who's posted that "I am offended by Islam" video that's going viral at the moment. That would be a far more entertaining debate than this one sided freak show...

Well, the woman at the end who was calling him a traitor was the self-appointed leader of the women's branch of the EDL.

They're easy to shoot down because they're not making cogent arguments, specifically about Muslims in Britain. They got pulled up several times for mentioning things that happened outside of the UK. The EDL picks the worst of extremism from around the world when trying to justify its case against religious extremism here. You can do the same with anyone, or anything.

They tried to have a pop at Galloway because he personally doesn't believe that Hamas is a terrorist organisation, despite it being listed as such by many Western governments, including the US and the EU. They're not looking any deeper than the dictionary definition. My personal view on Hamas is one of enforced indifference. I'm not sure I'm entitled to comment because I haven't had to go what they've gone through. No problem for the EDL. If the government says someone is a terrorist, they're a terrorist. None of "other man's freedom fighter business" for them.

It's probably fitting that they see things in such black and white terms.

I would agree with you except that now they have an appaling act in the UK to 'justify' their actions.

Even so, they're not going to get much smarter anytime soon. I found the notion that people were running scared of Muslims a bit of a laugh. If anything, I think its the other way round at the moment.

When Galloway was on talk sport he would regularly cut off callers who actually challenged his view properly and let the morons on in full flow

George Galloway is a hypocritical bellend, the issue on hamas, catsuits and loving Iraq will haunt him forever, he is a bully who frequently loses his rag when questioned and when someone actually knows their beans.

Did anyone watch Question Time from Ulster last night?

We had the bizarre sight of the sinn fein education spokesman condemning the attack on a British solider in cold blood. It took Ian Paisley Jnr to point out that the Replications did this to two soldiers, dragging them from the car and murdering them in cold blood. Dimble went very quiet and we all moved on.

As an experienced politician such as Galloway, it's hardly impressive that he can easily get one over a few working class folk who've had a beer and called up a late night radio phone in on talksport - hardly anything to be impressed about?

Whilst there were some massive differences between the events (one premeditated v one a costly coming together) I did think of the "Corporals Killings" when watching the news the other night, particularly due to the barbaric way in which they were both killed and how the macabre event was captured in film. Also the very public nature of the horrific scenes and how they were played out in front of an audience of hundreds at the scene.

And of course as we learnt of the other threads, if someone somewhere is offended by something, then it is wrong.
