Jay Rodriguez contract talks

"Jay Rodriguez is hoping to be clearer on his future next week once talks have taken place over the 24-year-old’s contract. He has a renegotiation clause in his deal that is meant to kick in after 45 starts for the Saints and he is on 43.

Cortese had held talks with Rodriguez and his representatives, but that process will have to start again after Southampton’s home game against Arsenal."

Let's at least get this striker feeling settled and focused!

IMHO This is a good illustration as to what lies ahead

IF JRod signs another contract (long term), then that will be a massive pointer that the players think that Saints are still on the up and up

If he does NOT sign a new deal, then no one on here can have any doubt that the Leibherr future is NOT the progressive one that Markus gave us

Cork and Fonte -12 months left in June....

Would think we'll have a sort out in the summer regarding contracts once the club knows what they're doing at the top level. Ideally we'll get to Feb 1st with all our players still there (bar Osvaldo), and then have a chance to get the top level positions sorted, get the manager secured, and then the players will follow if the right contracts are offered.

"Renegotiation". Is that necessarily a good thing? Could that just mean him negotiating to get out of it?

Not really, might be an he can leave for XXXX£s clause if no new agreement can be reached though, perhaps somewhere akin to the sum we paid plus 15% or so. Agents get good deals for their clients these days and clubs are battered into submission if they want good players. You need a really tough negociator on your team if you don't want to get taken to the cleaners for what often turn out to be very mediocre players.

What could jrod expect? 30grand a week?

GR & DO are our top earners on 60k a week J rod could be well within his rights to command something closer to that figure as he has in effect contributed much more than either of those signings, whether the club would pay it is another thing!

I like JRod.

As far as I know (I'm most definatly NOT ITK) he is a good influence on the team.

Even on his off days he tries his heart out.

He has become a mutch better player under MoPo.

I would think if MoPo stays he will.

Which then brings us to will MoPo stay after June!
