Arizona Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 Even if he had matched his scoring rate from last season, he'd still have scored almost double what DMG has achieved this season. With John and Rasiak now confirmed as gone for the year he MUST stay. Absoluely must. We are never going to stay up with DMG scoring once every 36 hours of open play and bugger all from anyone else. Mr X Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 At least his work rate should help. True, would be nice if he knew where the goal was as well though, I don't get how he can go from ten goals...... to like one on the final day last season, overnight
Arizona Posted 27 December, 2008 Author Share Posted 27 December, 2008 From what I have read from the AGM if Saga stays then Cork goes back to Chelsea and Pearce back to Reading. Mad as some people might find this, it's a price I am willing to accept. Pearce is hit and miss. Cork is quality and would be a miss, but I'd rather lose him and risk relegation than not have an experienced striker and definitely get relegated. It's a sad World if we can't afford Cork. I always thought Lowe's redeming feature was his financial nouse. If he can't get Europes 2nd richest club to cover the wages of one of their youth players for 6 months he really is f**king useless. Chez Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 well you are going to get your wish as no one wants Saga. The problem is his wages are going to be moe than Cork and Pearce combined so it will restrict us loaning anyone else as well. Saga to save us? I'm not so sure. Lets hope I am wrong. I agree we desperately need a goalscorer,it simply is a must. What we have will not provide anywhere near enough goals we are going to need to stay up. I also particularly agree with the highlighted bit ...100%
ART Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 Well IF Michael Wilde truely loves this club and wants to go some way to putting things right, keeping Saganowski is practically a must for us staying in the Championship. So, like Crouch last season, I think he OWES everyone by paying up Saganowski's wages. It would help towards us scoring goals, staying up and for him, Lowe and Crouch standing a chance of getting their investment back.
trousers Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 I've always been a fan of Saga since his 'one-man-band' act during the last 10 games a couple of seasons ago....but my fear this time around, assuming he comes back into the fray next month, is where will he get his motivation from? I know that a footballer's in-built professionalism should be enough to spur them on but we all know how much of a fine line it is between a player scoring for fun and not scoring at all because of the psychological weight on their shoulders. I've just got this nagging doubt that Saga will be able to raise his game mentally for the 2nd half of the season.

No reason to assume he wont put the effort in here. I think he was even quoted in the media as saying he was looking forward to coming back. Minsk Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 From what I have read from the AGM if Saga stays then Cork goes back to Chelsea and Pearce back to Reading. You have posted exactly the same thing in half-a-dozen different threads. Please can show the quote where it says, 'if Saga goes back we will not keep Cork or Pearce'? If you are merely referring to the fact that we will struggle financially with his wages then there are other options. Saga returning does not have to mean no Cork. (Especially for a great businessman like Lowe. 'rollyeyedthingy')
Wilko Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 I don't go very much any more, but simple logic tells me we need somebody who can put it in the onion bag. That man is not McGoldrick. It's more likely to be Saga. If we have to lose a couple of the defenders who have so far got us into this perilous position, then so be it. It's not like they'll be here for the long haul anyway. Cork and Pearce will **** off as soon as they get a sniff of something better. We may as well gamble a little bit to try to stay in the league. If we don't score, we can't win. As ineffective as I think Saga is, he may well be our only chance and can somehow find that form he showed when he first arrived. Then would we need to sell other players to accommodate his salary? With Surman and Lallana's value going down by the second, I am beginning to doubt if they can cover it. Personally I don't think Saga will be any improvement, but we may as well try and find out. VectisSaint Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 From what I have read from the AGM if Saga stays then Cork goes back to Chelsea and Pearce back to Reading. Think Pearce is on his way back to Reading anyway, why else would he have been dropped yesterday? I think you'll find Cork is heading to Bolton as well. So, given that, we may as well have Saga back. At least we will have someone capable of scoring a goal or three.

He'll need to score at least 10 per game if our centre back pairing is Lancashire and Perry. Scoring is a problem for us, conceding is an even bigger one; Look at our results over the last 5 or 6 years, 1-0 at home and 0-0 away was our stock in trade for points gathering. Our problem is the defence, we can't score and we'll almost always concede, a recipe for disaster if I ever saw one.

Saints foreva Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 This club has no backbone. Risks are needed for us to stay up imo. But no, yet again our board will take the easy option out.
Andy_Porter Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 We need to take a gamble. I'd bring back Saga now, the whole Saga or Cork thing is ******** imo, if we keep making cuts financially we will be relegated and we will be in a much bigger mess. Get a new manager in, recall Saga and Dyer asap and send back all the loanees other than Cork. If Surman, Lallana, Schneilderin, Skacel or any of the other youngsters need to be sold to finance it then so be it. Need to keep hold of Davis, Perry, Saga, Euell, Cork and Holmes with a decent manager there is at least a spine we can build a team around with decent experience in the league. Doesn't even really need to be an amazing manager just someone who knows how to get the best out of teams in this league, I'd take someone like Boothroyd tomorrow, he's an old fashioned manager that would make us hard to beat rather than a ****y fancy passing side. Can't help but feeling we'd be able to afford better defenders and attackers if we hadn't filled up our wage bill with waste of space midfielders like Gasmi, Pulis, Smith and Anderton. If we get rid of Robertson and Pekhart, it'll go 1/3 of the way to paying Saga's wages with no detriment what-so-ever to the squad. Andy I agree with most of that, although I think Skacel and Euell are on the wrong list. Rudi is a must keep IMO, whereas Euell is just another hit and miss underperforming central midfielder. A left flank of Holmes and Skacel looks like being one of the few strengths in our side come the new year.
Andy_Porter Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 I do like Rudi but I think he's wasted a bit at left back and Holmes is probably on half as much money and does almost as good a job on the wing. I'm not convinced about Euell, I wouldn't be too concerned if we sold him and replaced him with another experienced midfielder, I think we an experieneced head in the final 3rd. Maybe Holmes of the left with Skacel in the hole and Dyer, Smith or Lallana on the right.
