RobM Posted 28 December, 2008 Share Posted 28 December, 2008 Last game before the new year and the transfer window. Guess which two players are missing with an 'injury'? Same old story, cheerio lads, done-deal I guess.

RobM Posted 28 December, 2008 Author Share Posted 28 December, 2008 If we were to get a win today without them, what conclusions would you draw? I'd conclude no more than if we won with them. We have plenty of good players, but no experience or consistency. I don't want to see Surman or Lallana leave because I believe the longer we play with the same squad, the better we will become. I also think they are two of our better players.

lordswoodsaints Posted 28 December, 2008 Share Posted 28 December, 2008 its funny how loads of players go injured at the end of december, thats what a transfer window causes im afraid.ironically me and the boy attended a calendar signing a few weeks back with surman and lallana, doesnt look like they will even get to see the first day of that calendar in a saints shirt. Benj540 Posted 28 December, 2008 Share Posted 28 December, 2008 To be fair we did well without Surman and Lallana. Gobern gave us something in the middle Surman doesn't. A player who doesn't shy away from headers.

A player who doesn't shy away from headers. We didn't miss them, a bit more width today, Gillett and Gobern did well in the middle, McLaggon did well for our goal, very quick, but could have played a bit wider. Much better shape all round, the equaliser came from a free kick into the six yd box, We defended too deep then but the next time held a high line and Davis was able to win it. We need to defend those sort of free kicks on the edge of the penalty area. Paterson worked hard and looks a better bet than Robertson. BWP was much better than Smith. Chez Posted 28 December, 2008 Share Posted 28 December, 2008 I think Rudi will be off aswell to be honest. Just something about the way he clapped and waved to the fans today at the end suggested 'goodbye' I missed that but with the rumours about the Everton left back coming on loan it would make sense. Why else bring a left back in on loan unless a deal had been agreed for Skacel to leave. Shame as I was warming to him.

positivepete Posted 28 December, 2008 Share Posted 28 December, 2008 Surman was crocked on Friday, it was a surprise he saw that game through. However I did say on Friday that that could be the last time we see him play for Saints. I hope not, more likely to end up at Reading than Fulham I would have thought. Awful on his first start. He was composed and looked a good player today, he played well with Gillett and we were a lot more solid, especially when BWP came on. Reading scored from a free kick into the six yd box, which was scrambled in, because we defended too deep. The next from a similar position on the other side, was defended from the edge of the penalty area and Davis claimed it.

BGF Posted 28 December, 2008 Share Posted 28 December, 2008 I've just spoken to Andrew Surman and I asked him is he off, he replied he heard the rumor as well. I also asked why he didnt play today and he said he has an ankle injury he then pulled his sock down and he was wearing an ankle support. Very nice guy.
