St Marco Posted 18 January, 2009 Share Posted 18 January, 2009 Is he a permanent deal or just a loan signing? we signed him on a free from the recommendation of someone at Stoke City apparently Seriously though i do find it quite funny that he has been with 7 clubs already and has played 20 games in total. That means he plays on average 2.8 games for a club then moves. I wonder why that is?

SaintDonkey Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 Pulis the next Kleba Chala - you mean he's going to play in the world cup? Chala actually had a decent record as a footballer - it was just at Saints where he was written off as a failure. I've never seen Pulis play so I'm not going to write him off just yet. Still I expect him to be gone and forgotten come the end of the season.

Give it to Ron Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 I saw him play in a reserve game. I'm not bemused. Seconded - absolutely no idea why he was signed - Gillet was light years ahead of him in every department. Gasmi is another of those lightweight French ball players that are good in French leagues but absolutely pants here as he cant tackle for toffee and the only position for him is tucked in behind a big forward - of which we do not posess at any level at the moment. No evidence for this but I suspect that Pulis was signed as a sweetner in the Davis deal. i.e. you'll get more for Davis if you take this crock off our hands. If you do the maths then I suspect we got a good deal, otherwise there would be no point. Of all the things he can be blamed for, when it comes to transfers Lowe is not naive. This again is what really niggles me ...if you consider how many of these sweetners that dont work out? Agent fees, loan fees, even if on poor wages does that still add up to more than we would pay someone like Lucketti who was free at the start of the season and would of been ideal for us? I tried to be positive about any player signing and try not to pre-judge until I have watched him. Smith is a one trick pony that can only really play on the left and once a big defender clatters him he switches off - evidence in 4 games watched and especially last weeks reserve game where he went missing against a big defender. Forecast - probably signed as KD replacement and worries the crap out of me whenever a cross comes in based on 4 games watched. Gasmi - goood on the ball when passed to feet - crap off it, doesn't battle or tackle based on 3 games. Peckhart - shocking touch - scored one good goal apalling in 4 games watched. Robertson - one good goal - reasonable in 2 games - shocking in 2. So who is watching these players or do we just sign them willy nilly because they are cheap? None of these add anything to our squad that we didn't have before. To keep us up I believe if we go to league 1 or 2 or even conference and look around for a giant up front another giant defender and a real hard tackler in the middle we would stay up - 3 of these players would be far better than the 5 mentioned above and cheaper. Chez Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 I simply do not understand why a club with such limit finances as us would sign a player that was currently injured. It is not as though either player was in demand, besides the CCC has not only the transfer window but also the loan window to work with so there is no reason whatsoever why we needed to sign Gasmi or Pulis until they were fully fit. whoever is making the decisions on players coming in is ****ing clueless. The signings we have made have been terrible IMO. Awful. I know money is tight but nearly all of them have been poor IMO. Holmes - slow, lacks energy, extremely average player Smith - lightweight, bottler, easily kicked out of a game, pace an asset I suppose. Pekhart, height but not much else, limited chances Robertson, no pace, trick or power, showed a lack of ability when the few half chances came his way Pulis, injured, poor reputation, who knows... Gillett, no first touch, short, League 1 standard so far Wotton, very slow, poor technique, league 1 standard Schneiderlin, doesn't tackle, doesn't get up and down, great technique but the midfield area requires more. Forecast, did we need a third senior keeper when money was so tight? How much did he cost I wonder? Gasmi, small, injured, not got up to speed of the English game by January 09 Moleneux, short, falls over a lot (get some studs on). Not all that inspiriing so far. Lets see how he improves. Perry, committed and whole hearted but slow, short and well past his best. With Killer not fully fit did we want an old guy that might not be able to play every week? Seijs, got the height and looks the part, lets see what he does against a big striker. What a sorry list that is.

Agree with that apart from Perry who has been our best defender...although that doesn't say much I have felt he has held us together on his own at times. The rest is spot on. I agree though, our use of the loan market has been shocking. I know finances are tight, but I look at Norwich bringing in Lita and wonder if his wages would have been substantially higher than Robinson, Pekhart and Pulis combined (they may well have been). I think you've been a little harsh on Perry and Saiejs needs more time before we can make a true judgement. You've also left out Cork, who was brilliant for us in his time here. As a whole, the list doesn't reflect well on anyone at SFC does it?
St Paul Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 Personally I think the signing of Pulis is a serious matter. We have no money and yet sign a guy not good enough and who is injured. Had Harry Redknapp signed Pulis' injured son, would questions not be asked, would accusations not be thrown. A deal is dodgey regardless of who makes it, and this one stinks to high heaven.
